It has become clear, and to say, that we live in exceptionally unstable times. The world,
we are told, has never been more unpredictable, many would say, unsustainable. Whether this
concerns politics and security, global economy, environment and resources, digital disruption,
society and culture, all being influx, with such a rapid global changing landscape that invites
all of us to take a real pause and, perhaps, to provide a proper response.
All that said, fundamental changes are certainly under way, and for our ASEAN, our
Community building, all these have real meaning of transformation for our own sustainability
and development, and that of our future generation, wherever they live. This may be the time
why we need to talk so much more about our global future of regional integration and unequal
development that comes along, in so many dimensions, all overlapped, within our 3 pillars of
the ASEAN Community, whether and how, by integrating strategies among members, then
connecting to strategic partners and beyond, can help to solve real causes of problems with
which we are all faced.
For 2019 to be the round of Thailand’s ASEAN Chair, the regional and global
environment requires the grouping to be more vigilant and proactive in ways that would
promote better dialogue and cooperation among member countries and key dialogue partners.
As the Chair of ASEAN, it is crucial for Thailand to play this important role, “Advancing
Partnerships for Sustainability”, which is a worthwhile theme to talk so much about
sustainability, in all related dimensions, of our ASEAN and beyond, under “exceptional
uncertainty” of our global future.
Recognizing the importance of the youths as the future of ASEAN community, as well
as acting as a platform for the dialogue between the ASEAN Member States, the ASEAN
Studies Center of Chulalongkorn University would like to invite ASEAN students, who are the
future leaders of the ASEAN to gather at the ASEAN Youth Exchange Program 2019 under
theme:” Is ASEAN Really Sustainable in a Changing Global Future?” to enhance their
understanding on the role of ASEAN in advancing partnership sustainability under the
changing world and forge strong friendship among them. The program, which include lectures,
discussions, workshop and site visits in Thailand, will be held between 28th July – 4th August
2019.

dimensions, such as political-security, economic, and social-cultural perspectives
2. To foster understanding on the good relations and cooperation between ASEAN countries
3. To promote friendship and understanding between ASEAN youths
4. To have the participating students understand and get accustomed to teamwork and engaging
in joint projects

and international levels in the future

both bilateral and multilateral cooperation. They are encouraged to be aware and analyze
problems in order to come up with the solutions of complicated and challenging issues in the
future. Moreover, the workshop is to establish the network between ASEAN countries by
exchanging the models and strategic proposals of sustainable development for the environment,
economy and society among ASEAN countries. The outcome shall be shared to public in which
will be beneficial to the public both in the country and in various nations.
Participants
There are 80 students from 10 ASEAN countries who are majoring at related fields in the
