ONLINE BIOLOGY TEXTBOOK!!

You will receive textbook assignments several times throughout the year. If you have Internet
access, simply follow the directions below to access an online version of the biology textbook. You
can also access this textbook from any student computer at Hellgate (e.g. library, E-Lab).
If you do not have Internet access, may be able to sign-out a book for the year (these are
limited). If not, simply obtain a photocopy of the required section from your teacher before you
leave school. Please use the online version as much as possible to save paper and reduce the
high cost of printing.

1. Go to website www.pearsonsuccessnet.com
2. Click on “Login”
3. Username: hellgate2014 (no spaces or capital letters)
4. Password: password2014 (no spaces or capital letters)
5. Click on the link “PH2010 Online Student Edition”
 You can change the magnification by changing the number in the box or using +/–
 You can access page numbers directly by typing the number in the box in the upper left-
hand corner of the page and hitting “enter.”
 You can view two pages at one time by selecting “Two Page View,” right next to the box
you enter page numbers (upper left).
 You can access the glossary at the end of the table of contents or by selecting “A-Z” on
the menu bar at the top.
 Notice all the other resources available on this page (e.g., almanac, atlas, encyclopedia)!

PROBLEMS?
The most common problem, depending on your computer, is either a “script error” or an enabled
“pop-up blocker.” If you can get as far as clicking on the book icon but get a pop-up dialog-box
informing you there has been a script error or that pop-ups are blocked, then try the following:
A. If you’re using EXPLORER as your web browser (nearly all PC’s)
1. Close the pop-up dialog box.
2. Simply click on the “Compatibility View icon” located next to the web-address bar at
top of the web page. The icon looks like a sheet of paper ripped in half. (Go to
“Help” on the Explorer bar, click “Search,” and type “compatibility view” to see a
description of what this means and how it works.) Note: If you click on the
compatibility-view icon a second time, you won’t be able to open the book!
3. Now retry clicking the textbook icon on the Pearson site.
B. If you’re using SAFARI as your web browser (nearly all Mac’s),
 Either install and use Google Chrome as your browser software or …
 Disable the “pop-up blocker” on Safari. (This is most likely the problem.)
To disable a "pop-up blocker" on a Mac:
1. Open Safari web browser and click on the "Safari" menu in the upper left
corner of the browser window.
2. Choose "Preferences" in the pull-down menu.
3. Click on the "Security" tab.
4. Uncheck the "Block pop-up windows" box and close the window.
5. Now retry clicking the textbook icon on the Pearson site.
