1. PERSONAL INTRODUCTION AND REFLECTION ABOUT THE LEARNING
PROCESS.

My name is Monica Becaria, I was borned in California, United States but I have been living in
Colombia since I remember. I am 37 years old and live in Bucaramanga. My story is kind of
funny, as you can see I´m not a teenager and I´m studying to be an English teacher. Actually it
never crossed my mind to be one, I started studying international business when I finished high
school, but I didn't feel that was for me, so after a few semesters I decided that I wanted to live in
the United States and work hard to have money, the American dream that is not actually a dream.
After a few years I came back and the jobs that I got were always as a teacher, but I didn't want
that as a career, just like a hobby. Many years working as an English teacher made me see that I
actually enjoyed it and that that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
I started studying in UNAD in 2017 and let me tell you that it wasn't easy to get a hang of
working and studying at the same time. It was hard and stressful. I wasn´t very organized with
my time and sometimes ended up sending my activities in the last minute. So I made a schedule
for my job activities and one for my university activities, leaving time for my personal things and
that has really helped me a lot.
I think that one of my strengths is my personality, I am very cheerful and happy most of the time,
I use music to better the discipline of the students, and work with games to make classes fun. I
can be one of them, jump, dance, play, but they have clear that I'm the teacher. Make them think
is a wonderful key in English classes, not giving them everything so that they can think,
investigate makes it more interesting for them.
I think that my weakness was that I didn´t know exactly how I should plan a class, my classes
before were like any other class long ago (kind of boring), but I have been reading and
investigating how can I make my classes fun and students now love English and that is
something that all English teachers should accomplish. Making students love English gives you
and them a huge advantage.
I have learned many things since I started studying and that has helped me be a better teacher and
soon a better professional.
Thank you for reading me.

3. AGREEMENT
I chose Diana Carolina Carvajal’s personal introduction to compare to mine.
Good morning to all the participants of the course my respectful greeting to you. My
name is Diana Carolina Carvajal Carvajal I am from the municipality of Málaga
Santander and I am proudly a primary school teacher of a public school, I am named
eight years ago, because of life circumstances I have not finished my degree and most of
my classmates have already done it but that does not matter, I feel that my opportunity
will soon be. I am passionate about English, it seems to me a very nice language, but I do
not master it. I am in the process of learning and that is why I chose this career, I have
delayed a lot, I would think that more than usual but I never lose my spirit, it is what I
like and so my learning is slow I know that one day I will enjoy the benefits of this race.
In my school I try to practice a lot, I like to listen to music in English, but I recognize that
my pronunciation is poor and I lack fluency, just as I still like this language and I
sincerely hope to comply with what is stated in each course. I remember that I started to
like English when I left school because I realized that English is indispensable to open
doors to the world, to know more people, more cultures and open our minds to
globalization.
Thank you Diana Carvajal
REFLECTION
First of all, Diana grew up in a small town just like me, I grew up in Barbosa Santander. I
also used to work in a private school with primary students and I haven’t finished my
degree because of many things that have happened in my life. I learned English in a
different way, but I like that she has the spirit, likes the language and also does many
things to improve her understanding and pronunciation. Just reading her introduction,
makes me think that all the perseverance that she has had, makes her a great teacher, and
off course, like me, she is learning many things every day to be better in her job.
