FLORIDA'S FIRST & FUTURE
GROVER C. ROBINSON, IV
Moyor
July 26,2079
On behalf of the people of the City of Pensacola, we are requesting your assistance to address
gun violence in our community and maintain the level of public safety our citizens have come to
expect here in our beautiful, historic and ever-changing city.
As with any level of government, our first priority is to protect public safety. We take that
responsibility very seriously and have great regard for our public servant peers who embrace
similar challenges at the federal, state and local levels.
We consider Pensacola to be a shining jewel in the crown of our comer of the state. However, we
are experiencing a concerning level of gun violence that has spread beyond the Pensacola Police
Department's limited resources and capacity to confront alone. The dedicated men and women of
PPD are doing an exceptional job in the face of substantial obstacles, and we believe their efforts
wouid be greatly enhanced by the suppon of fecierai personnel anci resources.
We have noted with great interest the recent establishment of a proactive joint federal/state/local
strike force in Tallahassee to address gun violence and chronic crime. Now, we have earnest
hope that you will accept this invitation to create a similarly impactful version of that model
here. We would be welcoming and grateful for federal law enforcement agencies in the Northern
District of Florida to join forces with our Pensacola Police Department to actively address the
public safety challenges we are facing and provide additional training to the department.
As a growing community that continues to draw new residents, attract tourists and retain
longtime residents, this ongoing threat to public safety is unacceptable. We are committed to
working together to address these issues in order to preserve Pensacola's sense of community,
maintain peace of mind for our residents, and most of all, to protect the people who trust us to
serve them.
Sincerely.
