10.

PAINT FINISH REQUIREMENTS:


a. Paint Film Thickness and Coverage

Paint film thickness on a component is determined by taking one reading


per 2500 cm2 (388 inch2) of area. Minimum dry paint film thickness
requirements are outlined in Table 2. Each reading shall meet the
minimum paint film thickness specified in Table 2.

b. Paint Coverage

All parts surfaces including edges and inside corners shall have complete
and uniform coverage by each coat of paint applied.

c. Finish Paint

All finish painted product shall have a topcoat as the final coat of paint.
Primer only painted parts are not allowed on finish painted product.

d. Color

Color requirement applies only to topcoat paint. A visual match between


the painted product and an approved color standard is required. Color
shall appear uniform over the entire painted surface. Color standard
panels are available for purchase through:

e. Gloss

Gloss on painted product for Class A1 and A2 surfaces shall conform to


the requirements listed in Table 3. Gloss on Class B and C shall be
uniform over the entire surface. Gloss shall be checked upon completion
of the painting process.

f. Orange Peel:

Orange peel on painted product for Class A1 and A2 surfaces shall


conform to the requirements in Table 4. Orange peel shall be checked
using ACT Orange Peel Standards upon completion of the painting
process. Orange Peel standards can be ordered from ACT Test Panels

a. Defects Under Decals

Defects such as, but not limited to, dirt particles, lint, hair, runs, and sags
which accentuate the defect through the decal, are not allowed on
surfaces where decals are applied.

b. Adhesion

Paint film on all surfaces shall exhibit a minimum adhesion level of '4A'
when tested per ASTM D3359 Method A.

c. Hardness

All paints shall be properly cured to achieve their ultimate hardness


(ASTM D3363). Minimum pencil hardness of 'H' is required.
