Internet Safety Discussion Questions

Internet safety discussions are very important to have. To begin a classroom discussion
about Internet safety, use the Glog poster posted. After reading over the poster with your
class:

 Break your class up into 5 groups

 Give each group a discussion question
 Have each group answer and discuss their question
 After about 5-10 minutes, have the class come back as one
 Have each group present their discussion question and response
 After each group’s response, ask other students from other groups to respond
 Repeat until each group has presented

Discussion Questions:

Group 1 : Why should you never give out your personal information (full name,
address, and phone number)? What are the possible dangers of doing so? What would you
say to a friend who wanted to give out their personal information to people online? Why
would you say that to them?

Group 2 : Why shouldn’t you write to someone who has made you feel uncomfortable or
scared? If you are talking to them and they make you uncomfortable, what are some things
you can say or do? What advice would you give to a friend who said that someone on the
Internet has made them uncomfortable or scared? Why?

Group 3 : Why should you never meet a person you’ve been talking to online? If you do
want to meet this person, what can you do to make sure that the person you are meeting is
a safe person?

Group 4 : Why should you tell your parent if someone on the Internet has made you
uncomfortable or sad? What could happen if you did not say anything and continued to
talk to the person online? What advice would you give to a friend if they were in this
situation? Why?

Group 5 : What does it mean when someone says “Remember that people online might not
be who they say they are?” Why shouldn’t you trust everyone you speak to on the Internet?
What could possibly happen if you spoke to someone who they are not who they say they
are? What could you do if you come across a person like this on the Internet?
