CHAPTER FOUR

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter includes the presentation of the gathered

data, analysis, and the interpretation of data about the study

titled “Tubli Root (Derris Eliptica) Extract as an insecticide

against cockroach (Periplaneta Americana)”.

Effects of the Tubli Root Extract against Cockroaches

Cockroaches showed turbulent behaviour when the different

concentrations of Tubli Root extract were administered to them.

After some minutes the test subjects discharged a black

substance and started showing signs of immobility. After few

hours the cockroaches released a very nasty smell. Therefore,

the effects of Tubli Root extract against cockroaches were

observed. It goes to show that the test subjects are vulnerable

to the extract.

Table 4 shows that the treatment 1 has 42% of average

mortality rate with 30% concentration. Treatment 2 produced 58%

average mortality rate with 60% concentration and treatment 3

offered 100% of average mortality rate with 90% concentration.

The total average mortality rate of the Tubli Root extract shows

67% affectivity against cockroaches. In the control group, where

commercialized insecticide was used, in treatment 1 with 30%

concentration, the average mortality rate is 17%, in treatment 2

it has 25% average mortality rate with 60% concentration and in

treatment 3 it has 92% average mortality rate in 90%

concentration. The total average mortality rate is 45%.

It implies that the Tubli root extract can kill cockroaches

more effectively than the commercialized insecticide when

diluted.

Table 5 present the analysis of variance (ANOVA) of the

killing action between the different concentrations of Tubli

Root extract: 30%, 60%, and 90%. From the data shown the F-

computed value of 9.24 is greater than the F-tabular value of

5.14 at 0.05 level of significance with 2 and 6 degrees of

freedom. This only means that the there is significant

difference between the different concentrations, which only

shows that the higher the concentration of Tubli Root extract

the more effective it can kill.

Test of the Level of Significant Difference between the Tubli

Root Extract and Commercialized Insecticide

Table 6 shows the T-test correlated Sample of the killing

action between different concentrations namely; 30%, 60% and

90%. The data shows that the computed value of 3.5922 is greater

than the tabular value of 1.860 at 0.05 level of significance

having 1 and 7 degrees of freedom. This means that the null

hypothesis is rejected in favour of the research hypothesis.
