3 TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

3.1 GENERAL

The catwalk bridge is a part of the catwalk machine, which keeps the catwalk machine successfully
running to derrick floor. Refer to Figure 3-1 .

The bridge is fitted with a track that interfaces with the axles (wheels).of catwalk machine. In operation
condition, it is lifted to the horizontal position by the support cylinder, and connected to the hull structure
by locking pins pushed by locking cylinder. And it is drawn back by support cylinder to vertical position
during non-operation condition. Refer to Figure 3-2 .

The catwalk bridge is hydraulically controlled, without electrical system. There is no special HPU for
catwalk bridge hydraulic supply, and it is hooked up to the rig ring line. The locking cylinder is
independent control of support cylinder.

An emergency stop is furnished to cope emergency condition while the bridge is lifting up or laying down
or the condition the locking pin is stretching out or drawing back.

the hinge pin and the locking pin separately, bears the load. Refer to Figure 3-3 .

3.2.2 LOCKING PIN DEVICE

In operation condition, the bridge frame is lifted to the horizontal position by the support cylinder, and
connected to the supporting bracket 1 by locking pins pushed by locking cylinder. And during
non-operation condition, the locking pin is pulled back by the locking cylinder, so the bridge frame is
drawn back by support cylinder to vertical position. Refer to Figure 3-4 .

There are two lubrication points to help the locking pin move smooth and freely.

The locking pin is made of high strength stainless steel. The structure is mathematically analyzed, and
it’s strong enough to bear the design load.

There is an mechanical indicator on the locking cylinder to show the locking pin’s position so as to make
sure the bridge is locked or unlocked.

There is a V guide land between the bridge frame and the support bracket 1 to help the locking pin
squaring.

3.2.3 HINGE DEVICE

The hinge bracket will be weld to the support frame in field.

There are a lubrication point in the hinge pin to help the bridge rotate smooth and freely.

The hinge pin is made of high strength stainless steel. The structure is mathematically analyzed, and it’s
strong enough to bear the design load.

3.2.4 REMOTE CONTROL STAND

There is a remote control stand located at some place where the operator will have a good view of the
catwalk bridge operating. The remote control stand can operate the support cylinder lifting the bridge
frame up to the horizontal position and drawing it back, and operate the locking cylinder pushing out and
drawing back the locking pin. Refer to Figure 3-5 Remote Control Stand.

3.3 HYDRAULIC SYSTEM

There is no special HPU for catwalk bridge hydraulic supply, and it is hooked up to the rig ring line. The
hydraulic system of catwalk bridge mainly consists of five parts: flow control valve, pressure meter
switch, multiple unit valve, support cylinder and locking cylinder.

The locking cylinder is independent control of support cylinder.
