1. Purpose
This describes the tasks to be performed on a LTE RRH Replacement/Upgrade on the Airscale
Platform.

The MOP involves the Removal of the Existing LTE RRHs (to be replaced) and Installation of the
New/Upgraded LTE RRH. RRH Upgrades will involve additional RF connections to the Antenna.

2. Preparation
2.1 Affected Network Elements

The table below identifies the equipment that will be impacted during execution of this MOP
document. Prior to implementation, verify and confirm that the information is correct.

Network Element Details

eNodeB SiteID
NetAct [host name] or [IP address]
iOMS [host name] or [IP address]

2.2 Login Information

The table below identifies the login information that is required during execution of this MOP
document.

Network Element User ID

eNodeB User login with standard access
NetAct User login with read/write access.
iOMS User login with standard access.

2.3 Dependencies (Pre-requisites)

The following list provides the dependencies for the successful implementation of this MOP. If the
criteria are not met, this MOP will not be executed.

 Minimum SW version is FL17SP

 fALU and Nokia RRHs are required to be on separate ABIA cards due to FL17SP limitations.
 The Replacement/Upgraded fALU RRHs are “Nokia Airscale Ready” and loaded with at least
15.1 SW.
 The Replacement/Upgraded RRHs is of the same Technology and compatible Operating
Frequency Band of the Existing RRHs.
 For RRH Upgrades:
o The Upgrade SCF has been generated from the CIQ and made available to the teams
involved.
o There are sufficient number of Antenna ports/connections (2 Port to 4 Port
Upgrades). Note: Antenna Upgrades might be required.

3
o New RF Cables for RRH Upgrades are PIM Tested.
 CPRI Fibre runs must be validated to be correct and have proper light levels.
 The correct SFPs are installed on the Replacement/Upgraded RRHs (to match BBU SFP Rate)
 The existing carrier configuration; Antenna settings (CL, Azimuth, Mtilt & Etilt) are to remain
the same.
 A RET Information Spreadsheet is provided before the RRH Replacement/Upgrade.
 BTS Site Manager is the correct version.
 A GO decision is required from all parties involved before Cutover is to begin

3. Implementation

This chapter provides the procedures for the RRH Replacement/Upgrade.

3.1 Pre- Checks

Task Action
1 Confirm the E2E IP connectivity between BBU & NetAct.
2 Check BBU for Existing alarms/faults.
3 Backup Existing Configuration (BUC file)
4 Record SFP Inventory and CPRI Light Level Test Results (if applicable).
5 Note Existing ALDs are detected by the BBU.
6 Verify that the existing carriers are processing traffic.

3.2 RRH Replacement/Upgrade Examples

1. “Like for Like” – Replacement of the existing RRH with the exact same RRH.
2. Upgrade of 2 Port 1900 RRHs with the 4 Port 1900 B25 RRHs.
3. Upgrade of 4 Port 1900A RRHs with the 4 Port 1900 B25 RRHs.
4. Upgrade of 700L RRHs with 700AT RRHs.

3.3 Implementation Process

Perform the RRH Replacement/Upgrade.

Task Action
1 On-Site/Remote Engineer to confirm that the RRH Replacement/Upgrade procedure is
a GO.

2 Place ENodeB in Maintenance Mode.

3 Lock the RRHs that are to be replaced.

4 Properly label the existing CPRI Fibers and other cabling that are to be moved.

5 Power Down the RRHs that are to be replaced.

4
6 Physically Uninstall the RRHs that are to be replaced

7 Perform RRH Replacement/Upgrade

 Physically Install the new RRHs as per Installation Manuals

 Verify that the DC Power and Grounding Cables are properly connected.
 Verify that the correct SFPs are installed on the new RRH (Matching BBU
Rates)
 Verify that the CPRI, AISG/RET and Alarm (if applicable) cabling is correct and
going to the correct RRH
 Verify that the new RF Jumper Cables have been PIM Tested (for RRH
Upgrade)
 Verify that the RF (TX/RX) Jumper Cables are tightened and weatherproofed.
NOTE: As each SFP and fiber is handled, the fiber should be inspected and cleaned if
necessary. If the fiber was dirty, then the SFP should also be inspected and cleaned if
necessary.

8 Power Up the new RRHs.

9 Remote Engineer to Log-In remotely to the FSM4 with the BTS Site Manager via the
NetAct.

10 Remote Engineer to verify that the new RRHs are detected by the FSM4 BBU.
NOTE: Alarms will be seen for “Incompatible SW version detected” on each new RRH.

11 Remote Engineer to make sure that the new RRHs have updated SW loaded. Update
to the required SW if needed.

12 For RRH Upgrade Only: Remote Engineer to load RRH Upgrade SCF or we can
generate xml file with the help of BUC & CIQ, then need to provision the plan with the
CM Operation Manager.
Note: A eNodeB Reset will occur when the Upgrade SCF is loaded.

13 Remote Engineer to check SFP Inventory and CPRI Light Level Tests Results on the new
RRHs (if applicable).

14 Remote Engineer to perform ALD/RET verification check for the new RRHs (if
equipped). Follow proper labelling convention.
15 Unblock the new RRHs (if still Blocked)

16 Remove ENodeB from Maintenance Mode.

17 Remote Engineer to check and confirm all cells are Unlocked and Enabled and
available for RF Testing.

4. Post Implementation
Task Action
1 Remote Engineer to start the RF testing (VSWR, RSSI, TX Power)

2 Remote Engineer to confirm RF testing is successfully completed.

5
3 Remote Engineer to confirm that all the Commercial Carriers are processing traffic and
operating alarm free.
4 Remote Engineer and parties on the Maintenance Bridge agree that Site activities are
complete.
5 Contact the logout team and close the CTS for the site after all post checks have been
completed.

Note: - Below snap represent where we get the option to check the VSWR, RSSI, SFP & CPRI loss
values.
