Brief Literature Review:

Distance education is developing everyday with the development of technology. There are pros
and cons of it. According to Marc (2000), distance education focuses on the individual learner’s
needs and it is an important factor in the education. Smedley (2010) thinks that distance education
is beneficial because of the flexibility of time and place of where you have or give the
information. Wagner et al (2008) note that it gives self-pacing, every student can learn his/her
own learning pace. So, it gives a chance for increasing satisfaction and decreasing stress (Codone,
2001; Amer, 2007; Urdan and Weggen, 2000; Algahtani, 2011; Marc, 2002; Klein and Ware,
2003). Kegeyan S.E. states in his article distance learning also saves money (2012). Behera
(2013) gives another advantage of it by giving the example of handicapped students like deaf and
dumb can use it. Besides these advantages, there are also some disadvantages. As we all know,
Tiene also said in his article, for distance education computers, software and connection are
needed but not everyone has these equipment (2000). Behera (2013) emphasizes its adverse
effects on health like eyesight or other body parts and reminds how much cost it than traditional
education. Kabir, Kadage, (2017) says the amount of given information is limited because of the
screens and because of the need of internet connection, opening videos and high-resolution
images can be very slow sometimes. Kegeyan (2015) shows us another perspective of it, some
employers do not accept the degree and certificates earned from distance
education. Abaidoo and Arkorful (2014) also says the lack of social interaction as disadvantage.

specific methods that you plan to use, etc.

paragraph)

Reflection:
There are a lot of advantages of distance education and some disadvantages too. Generally, all
researches give more examples about its advantages than disadvantages. I support both the
advantages and disadvantages. Because I think all opinions have a right in a way. I finished my
bachelor's degree in a traditional school and now I have master via distance education. Both have
advantages and disadvantages. Not to compare but just the look at distance education, it is good
for me. I have a son; I was thinking to have master's degree but, in my situation, it was hard for
me to put my son anywhere else and go to school, also I don’t have a car, too. Distance education
is a big chance for me that’s why I like it.
I am giving lessons in homeschool. Homeschool is a kind of distance education. I teach lesson in
person, but I give assignments via internet. Sometimes I want my students to prepare Kahoot or
jeopardy from the topics that I taught them and send it to me. This year I plan for them to have
blog about the lessons and I am planning to give them to write posts what they learned in that day
and make comments to their friends like the lessons I take this year via distance education. I
implement this research to my teaching with integrating technology, I know the disadvantages
like computer, internet so on. In my homeschool, every student has a chrome and they have
internet connection, so this is not a problem for them. The student and I have lessons face to face
so they can socialize. Distance education is not a problem for them. Besides these, I believe that
lessons can be more effective because this generation is the internet/technology generation and I
believe that they can learn in that way with lots of fun.
