Summary

The movie “Every Child is Special” a very interesting movie it is a Hindi films directed by

Amir Khan .The story is about an 8-year-old boy named Ishaan who cannot cope with the

academic demands in school. He has a hearing disability because he always complained that

“the letters are dancing!” when he was asked to read by his teacher. So, teacher threw him out

of the class and the students who passed by the hall mocked him for being punished.

Moreover, Ishaan reversed letters when he wrote and demonstrated a poor understanding of

mathematical concepts. Sometimes if he commits mistakes everybody laughs at him or will

shout on him just like what his father or even his mother did. He always find ways to laugh after
everybody laugh about what his doing. He was at the risk of repeating a grade level again

because of his poor scholastic performance. Too often, he may be caught by his teacher

daydreaming and getting low grades.

Ishaan think that he is not belong to the group that’s why he began to evade homework

and cutting classes without knowing of his parents because of his discouragement over his

failings. Sometimes his father shouts and doing harsh against Ishaan. When his teachers advised

his parents to avail of special education services, his family decided to send him to a boarding

school instead in the hopes that the highly structured environment will straighten out his

“behavioral problems”. But the academic status of Ishaan was not improved. Alternatively, he

became withdrawn and lonely, far from the Ishaan who was active and fun-loving.

Ishaan continued struggling with the same problems in his new school. When he was

finally on the brink of suicide, then came an alternative art teacher Ram Nikumbh discovered

that he had dyslexia and consequently turned his life around. Ram Nikumbh change the best

way Ishaan would act towards school and figure out how to appreciate himself even more, his

art teacher who pay attention to Ishaan and to understand Ishaan whom his parents never

finds what ishaan is. Only Ram Nikumbh discovered Ishaan’s skills in art with the help of his

teacher Nikumbh. He encouraged studying, knowing on how to read and write especially he

developed his talent in drawing.

So, towards the end of the school year Nikumbh organizes/conduct an art fair for the

staff and students. The competition is judged by artist Lalita Laimi, who portrays herself in the

film. Ishaan, with his strikingly creative style, is declared the winner and Nikumbh, who paints

Ishaan’s portrait, the runner-up. When Ishaan’s parents meet his teachers on the last day of

school they are left speechless by the transformation they see in him. Overcome with emotion,

Ishaan’s father thanks Nikumbh. As Ishaan is getting into the car to leave with his parents, he

turns around and runs toward Nikumbh. The film ends with a freeze frame shot of Nikumbh

tossing Ishaan into the air.

Reflection

Based in the movie in tilted “Every Child is Special” it is nice and very interesting movie

I’ve ever watched. As we live in this world we had encountered different happenings that

sometimes will make a change in our life. Mostly, when we are just exploring this wonderful

world we will be able to see the things that are really worth living for. The movie Every Child is

Special unlocks my imagining on how to treat every child in this human race. It actually releases

the sense of awareness that lies on my being, the awareness of appreciating every deeds of a

child whether it’s simple or wasteful. When I was watching the scenes I honestly felt the pain

that runs on Ishaan’s eyes. I’ve felt the emotion of being alone and left behind, the feeling of

not being heard by the most important people in your life. Furthermore, the numbness of

emptiness and sadness triggers my soul.

A story of a considerate teacher that assists a child to overcome what everybody

thinks he can’t open outcome of the education system in some countries. A teacher who

believed that facing the reality and work on it to make it improved is always been better than

running on the “problem” that the people say, the problem of being different. A teacher who

accept and understand the truth that as well as he is everybody in this world is different and

special in their very own ways but not wrong.

When Ishaan’s parents decided to send their son in a school where discipline is the most

important thing to follow is one of the hearts wrecking part of the story. In fact, I am hoping

that time that the parents of Ishaan had the time to study some parts on how special children

be treated as special ones. I am wishing that same time that how I wish the parents had a little

background on how certain possibility their son acquires the dyslexia or if ever any other

disability. Hence, the father didn’t understand and as I know didn’t want to accept the whole

truth that his son is special he stick on his decision to transfer Ishaan on a disciplinary school. It

is really too sad for the child to experienced hard things at a young age. Though it is not really

the disability that made schooling too hard for Ishaan the acceptance of the people around him
made a big deal. I think when Ishaan moved he experienced culture shocked that made it too

hard for her to accept and adjust in the new environment. The feeling of being special from the

other students and the feeling of being scolded by his teacher are the culture shocked.

The point where the happiness arise from me while watching the movie is when the

funny teacher who disguise as a clown at the very first meeting with the kid came. I salute the

way he explained to Ishaan’s family the reason why he doesn’t recognize letters and yet Ishaan

find it hard to read was really amazing. One of the things that made a big impact on me was

when parents ignore what the teacher tell them and didn’t give any help for their son yet the

teacher still holds on his faith that he can lend a hand to aid not only the disability of Ishaan but

also the misery in the eyes and heart of the little boy.

We all know that there’s a difference between special children and normal children but

both have similarities. For instance, they both have talents and perspective towards life. They

can play and have fun in their own. Both need attention and discipline from their parents to

avoid any misconception while they are growing and guide them from learning. Special children

need more attention and extra help to develop their social skills. Parents must be extra careful

with their special children because they have special needs to be attended. Also, they need to

be understood by their family and everyone around them to gain more confidence about

themselves and can interact well. On the other hand, normal children can develop their social

skills on their own and can gain friends. They can play with another child and gradually learning

to share and take turns. They can join in groups and enjoy group experiences. Their needs are

easily observe and directly accommodated but still need guidance. These children are part of

the society, whether they have disabilities or just normal ones and they must be respected.

Every one of us has rights in the society we are in and that includes them. They have the right

to choose whoever they want to become and whatever they want to do but with a proper given

guidance and attention. The happiness and joy they brought will never be unmatchable

especially to their parents.

 For the parents of Ishaan it is important to discover the weaknesses and strength of

their children earlier in order that they will know on how to handle a certain situation like what

happened to Ishaan. I believed the saying says that “Regrets are felt when it’s just too late.” As

what Ishaan’s parents happened.

What I learned to the movie is that to give care and to believe in a child’s unique

ability is the true meaning of love. To give time or give more attention for a child to teach and

support them are the important lessons that I gained because for me that explains the best

meaning of the movies’ title Every Child is Special. I realized that being a teacher it should

important to know the different behavior, skills, and ability of his pupils.

Summary

As I watched a short movie entitled “Make a Difference” the writer of this film is only

focus on the two characters Teddy and Miss. Thompson. First day of class Miss Thompson stood

in front of 5th grade class. She looks at her students and says that she loved her students the

same. However, that was impossible because there in the front row, slumped in her seat, was a

little boy named Teddy Stallard.

Miss Thompson watched Teddy the year before and she noticed that he did not play

with the other children, messy and that he constantly needed a bath. Teddy could be

unpleasant, her teacher got a point to mark bold X’s on his paper using red pen and putting a

big “F” of the paper. In the school where Miss Thompson taught, she required to review the

background or the past records of her students. She gives more attention of Teddy’s record,

when she read the past records of Teddy she was surprise because Teddy’s first grade teacher

wrote that Teddy is a bright student, works neatly and have good manners. The second grade

teacher wrote that Teddy is an excellent student and his classmates like him, but he got in

troubled when her mother has a terminal illness and struggling hard at home. His mother’s

death is very hard for him. Even though his mother is gone he tries to do best in order he can

get attention from his father but his father does not interest on him. So on his fourth grade

wrote that Teddy withdrawn and does not show much interest in his study. He doesn’t have

many friends and sometimes he got sleep in class.

After reading the past record of Teddy, Miss Thompson is already know of what is the

reason why Teddy different to his classmates. She was ashamed of herself when her students

brought her Christmas gifts wrapped in a beautiful ribbons and bright paper, except for Teddy’s

gift. The gift of Teddy is clumsy wrapped in the heavy brown paper that he got from a grocery

bag and not presentable to see. Miss Thompson took pains to open it in the middle of the other
gifts. Some of the students begin to laugh when the saw rhinestone bracelet and some of the

stones missing, and a bottle of perfume was already one-quarter full.

But she explained to her student how pretty the bracelet was, and she put a little

perfume on her wrist. She let one of her student smell to it, after class Teddy stayed to the

classroom there is something to say to his teacher. He says that “Miss Thompson, today you

smelled just like my Mom used to.”

After Teddy left, Miss Thompson cried at least an hour. She touched of what Teddy say

to him. On the day she began to teach the children on how to write, read and arithmetic. She

give particular attention of Teddy in that way she also alive in teaching children. The more she

encouraged him, the fastest he responded. By the end of the year Teddy become one of the

smartest children in the class and become her favorite children.

A year later, Miss Teddy found a note under her door it’s from Teddy, wrote that she is

the best teacher she ever had. After six years she got note from Teddy, wrote that he already

finished his high school and she is the best teacher she ever had in his whole life. Four years

later, she got another letter from Teddy, informing Miss Thompson that he would graduate in

college with the highest honor and he still saying that Miss Thompson is the best teacher she

ever had in whole life.

It was a spring, when she got another letter from Teddy informing the he met a girl and

soon to be married. She asked permission to Miss Thompson to sit the side of the mothers

groom in replace to his mother because his father is already died in a couple of years. Miss

Thompson accepts the invitation and during the wedding she wore the rhinestone bracelet and

she make sure that she put a little perfume from Teddy’s gift for him before.

So they hugged each other and saying thank you to Miss Thompson for helping and

encouraging him to study. Believing to Teddy and make him feels that he is important to him

and also show that Teddy makes a difference.

Reflection

As I watched the movie I really like the story it was beautiful and inspiring that really

touched me. I learn that each one of us can make a difference in someone’s life, because we all

have the power to affect the others. The teachers play a major role in the development of the

students and the society. Students consider their educators as mirrors or images that they

would be one day.

This story makes me realize that children are special and make me think about what the

children want from the elders, and that they are always watching what the other people are

doing. Teddy was a special learner that unfortunately Ms. Thompson did not understand at the

beginning and she prejudged him. Maybe because of his appearance, unknowing his situation,

she treated him with neglect, although that she said: “I will love you all the same.” But the

point of change comes when she examined the past records and notices of his previous

teachers; she realized that Teddy was a brilliant kid suffering because of his mother’s absence.

Then she started caring and Teddy at the same time exploded his potentials and began ‘walking

on the road’ of success.

“Make a Difference” gives us a message of how to help each other. Miss Thompson

changes life of Teddy in a positive way. On the other hand, Teddy helps her to be a real

teacher. It's like a piece of advice for us because sometimes, we lose control and we see

everything dark in our life. Sometimes, we need someone to help us and when we help student,

we feel that we help ourselves also. Sometimes, small things that we don’t give importance

may change our life.

At the end of the story I see how one teacher can make a difference. Although the years

had passed, they did not forget each other. There was a mutual exchange of feelings and great

respect and trust.

I understand that just one friendly look at someone can make a difference in his life.
 Finally, everyone is someone’s hero, and everybody has a hero. Each day we learn and

teach one another whether this be in a classroom, at work or at home, no matter where, there

are always lessons to be learned and practiced. And I believe we all must well behave, because

there is someone out there watching us, and consider me or you the one that he/she wanted to

be someday. I realized how important a teacher is, to make a student been successful in life

through the help of a teacher.

 Computer Literacy of Public School Teacher

From this topic I learned that how computer important is. Now a day, we are now

encountering the concept of technology in which the computer is the one of those

technologies. The use of ICTs in all learning areas is encouraged as a means of promoting

greater interactivity, widening access to knowledge that will enrich learning, and developing

“skills in accessing, processing and applying information, and…in solving mathematical

problems and conducting experiments.”

Teacher should necessary to know on how to manipulate the computer because it is

very useful in making school documents. Knowing on how to use computer makes work easier.

By using computer in teaching arouse the interest of the student to listen during class

discussion especially when a teacher assigned in a remote area like in the mountain and islands

the student/pupil there is ignorant of the technology with the use of computer in presenting

the lesson student/pupil inspired to listen.

That’s why I realized that how really computer is important to the public school teacher

in making their reports easier. It is important also to become literate on using computer.
