INTRODUCTION
On-the –Job Training is part of a college curriculum that aims to
train college students about the real life scenario of their chosen career. We can
say that On-the-Job Training is a type of skill development where student learns
how to do work through hands on experience. On the job Training is the best
method by which students are expose to different works or situations that are
designed to give students the opportunity to experience and a great chance for
them to apply what they have learned at school and It also helps us to acquire
relevant knowledge and ability and boost confidence by performing in the actual
work setting.

On the job training helps the students specially the trainees to learn
more about his or her chosen career and it doesn’t only teach students regarding
their chosen field but also show students the reality of working. It also helps
students in building competence which is an important part of being a
Professional and after the training the students will be able to handle situations
properly and enhance critical thinking abilities and instil discipline. OJT also let
the students to immerse themselves in his chosen field and aside from work
experience On the Job Training allows trainees to socialize or meet with different
professionals or people with different attitude and position in the company which
will train them how to adjust to other people’s personality and On the Job
Training really requires effort and seriousness for it will be a solid ground for the
next chapter of their life as future professionals.

Since On the Job Training is done outside the school, well let me share
some things about the place where we stay during our OJT days.

Did you know that Quezon City is one once the capital of the
Philippines for 28 years? Yes, Quezon City became the capital city of the
Philippines from July 17, 1948 (via RA 333) up to June 24, 1976(via PD 824),
Quezon City is also the largest and most populous city in Metro Manila having a
total land area of 161.13 sq. Km, with 6 districts and 142 barangays. Its initial
name was “BALINTAWAK CITY” after the “cry of Balintawak” that took place on
August 23, 1896. Then it was change into Quezon City named after Manuel Luis

Quezon, the Philippine president at the time the city was inaugurated. The city
lies on the Guadalupe Plateau, a relatively high plateau at the northeast of the
metropolis situated between the lowlands of Manila to the southwest and the
Marikina River Valley to the east. The southern portion is drained by the narrow
San Juan River and its tributaries to Pasig River, while running in the northern
portions of the city is the equally-narrow Tullahan River. Quezon City is bordered
by Manila to the southwest, by Caloocan and Valenzuela City to the west and
northwest. To the south lie San Juan and Mandaluyong, while Marikina and
Pasig border the city to the southeast. To the north across Marilao River lies San
Jose del Monte in the province of Bulacan, while to the east lie Rodriguez and
San Mateo, both in the province of Rizal. Quezon City is also home to various
government agencies, such as the House of Representatives, the Office of the
Ombudsman, Sandiganbayan, the Commission on Audit (COA), and 6 Cabinet
departments and where the main campuses of the University of the Philippines
and Ateneo de Manila University are also situated in the city. The commercial
center of the city is in Cubao, Araneta Center where there are many shopping
malls and the Aurora Tower can be found.

Quezon City is also the home of the Philippines' major

broadcasting networks. Television companies such as ABS-CBN, RPN, GMA
Network, INC TV, UNTV, Net 25, PTV, and IBC all have their headquarters in
Quezon City. TV5 also had its headquarters in Quezon City since 1992, but it
moved out to Mandaluyong City in 2013. Tomas Morato and Timog Avenues are
the heart of a restaurant and entertainment row with a wide array of prices,
cultures, and flavors while Banawe Avenue is dubbed as the "Autoparts Capital
of the Philippines" and home to clusters of authentic Chinese restaurants aside
from Binondo.

Quezon City's communication system is powered by the duopoly of

PLDT and Globe Telecom and did you know that Quezon City is the first local
government in the Philippines with a computerized real estate assessment and
payment system. The city government developed a database system that now
contains around 400,000 property units with capability to record payments.

That’s only few things, for Quezon City has much more to offer!

Assessment of Work Experience

“Road to success knows no Special Treatment”, we are not all born with
a silver spoon, we cannot even chose whom will be our parents but we can
definitely choose whom or what we will be! Back in my childhood days I always
thought that the world is just a big playground, No problems to solve, no
challenges to overcome, no options to choose and opportunities to take but as
the years passed by, the world that I’ve known seems to show its true colour’s ! It
was not a playground but a race track where you must keep the pace or else be
left behind without a trace. And at this very moment I am one of those people
whom at our final laps, the last lap that would give us the medal of success and
would definitely tell our worth in the society. I sacrifice the things I loved just to
seek the golden medal of success! All of us may not share same stories or same
start but I know everyone would agree when I say that we will share same
ending! Never in my wildest dream that I would become a BACHELOR IN
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY(BMET-MT) Student for when I
was still a young dreamer I always wanted to be a Doctor, Chef, Seafarer, a Pilot,
and a soldier, but it seems like I wasn’t destined to take this courses. But I know
that everything happens for a very excellent reason, I believe that GOD has a
perfect plan for me why HE set me to take this line and I thanked HIM for that.

As a graduating student it is necessary or we are really required to

undergo On-the-Job Training to test what have we learned during our stay in the
four corners of the campus and to improve our skills and knowledge. And for us
to experience the real life scenario after we graduate and no one is exempted!

The training I had in Nito Seiki Manufacturing Corporation is one of a kind, I

was exposed to different operations using different methods and machines, I
became familiar with different machineries and mechanical products, aside from
it I also learned to be more sociable and it teaches me how to adjust in the
environment I where in and the people I work with. In almost a year of stay in the
company I learned not only those things that are connected to my field but also
the things that molds me to what I am now like on our first day of work as OJT’s,
we are assigned to different task or different machining operations with the
guidance of our supervisor, line leaders, regular employees and apprentices. It is
never that easy! Now I realized how important it is to make your course as your
passion for if you are just constrained to take your course, then you won’t even
last a day. Now I know how essential attitude is, especially when you are
considered to be the lowest mammal in the company.

Although Yes, OJT is really tiring but it was fun because every day I
grows mentally and physically and I established a sense of eagerness to learn
more and exceed than what I am before and working in or to be part of an
International Standardization Organization certified company is such a great
privilege for me, for it gives me the chance to work with the best and at the end of
the day I make myself proud. I can still remember our first day as an OJT when
our supervisor in the manual department in the name of Mr. Raul Medrano
assigned me to re-drill the Pins manually at first I was upset I keep on asking
myself “is this the right operation I should do?” “why me?” then at the end of the
day I was so thankful that he chose me to do the said task because it was the
easiest operation to do with no quota to reach, Unlike my other classmates they
are assigned into operations that requires strength, requires sweats to flow down!
that is why I start to put my trust on him for I know and I feel that he would help
me grow in my chosen career and I also realize that he is just testing our
attitude.

If there is one person I can’t forget during our OJT is our very own
supervisor in Manual Department Mr. Medrano because he’s the one who tested
my discipline, obedience, punctuality, decision making and he is also a kind of
person who keeps on telling us the things we must never forget like “ Always
think your safety first”, “always wear your goggles, don’t use gloves or anything
that the machine may pull while you are operating”, “check your Drawings,
Machine Checklists, Product Quality Control Table(PQCT), Product Identification
Cards and Productions Stickers”, “always do a Three (3) initials before
proceeding to mass productions” and most of all he tells us “Don’t love the
company, love your work and keep on learning everyday even if it means you
have to beat yourself everyday!” so that wherever you will be or what company
you will choose to be with you know already what to do!

As days passed by I realized how our works defines us as a person, how

essential quality is and how important it is to have a presence of mind while
working for we are vulnerable beings at a four sided world where powerful,
brainless and machines without feelings are present! Machines that 100% would
or could cut one, two or even all parts of our body into pieces or worst cut-off
your tread of life and we even witnessed how this horrible thing happened! Let’s
say it was just an accident it cannot be prevented but we can resist it to happen if
we just follow and understand the safety rules and regulations of the company for
this horrible things only happens to those hard headed operators who forgot that
they are vulnerable human’s not cyborgs.

During my stay in the company as OJT I meet different faces, people, I

meet new friends and family, but above all I meet someone who makes my heart
skip to beat at a time which last happens more than seven (7) years ago, she’s
SURIGAO STATE COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY
Narciso St., 8400, Surigao city, Surigao del Norte Philippines
Telefax (0860) 826-6346
www. ssct.edu.ph
the one who serves not only one of my inspiration but a motivator and strength
booster as well! Maybe this was just another way to make myself fool again not

fall again (laugh). Maybe I’m just longing for the love of my family because as we
all know we are miles away from home but whatever it is, this feeling is great, I
don’t know if this was still part of my work experience but one thing is for sure I
am not the man her heart is missing! Well so much for that, back to the topic.

All I can say about Nito Seiki Manufacturing Corporation is, it’s not a good
not even a very good place for On-the-Job Trainees to learn! If you’re asking
why? Well, it is because it is the best one to learn everything about machining for
they will really teach you the proper way on how to do every operations, they will
teach you what to do in case the machine your using fails to work and most of all
how to work professionally and efficiently.

As a trainee I keep on teaching and reminding myself to be always a client-

focused, innovative and flexible in meeting my customers need and work to be
better and faster with consideration to quality while adhering to the regulatory
and statutory requirements of our governing bodies. And one that I am proud of
is, in Nito Seiki they really instill on us how to use and how be part of a Quality
Management System that raise Standards and reduce waste so that we could
make Nito Seiki Manufacturing Corporation a better place to work and I am also
proud to share that in Nito Seiki we are not working individually but as a team, a
team who share one (1) common goal and aspiration.

But I think what Nito Seiki Mfg. Corp. really taught us was not only how
to be a machinist but also how to stand on our own feet and how to work as a
man with profession and I so grateful for that.

On-the-Job Training I think was the hardest and longest test we have
undergone ever for it last 38 weeks or an equivalent of 1500 hours! A test without
test paper, a test where you need to do it on your own for you cannot copy, a test
where no one except GOD can help yourself, a test of Discipline, Moral, attitude,
teamwork, determination and perseverance.

I really had a very meaningful and memorable On-the-Job Training, though

I am already finish working at Nito Seiki as a trainee I am looking forward to work
with them not as a trainee anymore but as a real Machinist.

There’s are still a lot of work experiences I wanted to share but I can’t find
words to describe it nor have a pen that could ever write it, for my work
experience is indescribable, priceless, one of a kind and I’m proud to say that I
passed the TEST!
