1 AN OVERVIEW OF THE STUDY MANAGER
The Study Manager combines and displays high-level results for societal and individual risk from different
Safeti workspace files. The results that can be combined and viewed in the Study Manager are the
Smoothed FN Curve and the three types of Risk Contour Plots.

The advantages to using the Study Manager

The Study Manager allows you to reduce the size of your Safeti analysis files, as you can break down a
large analysis into a set of smaller analysis files that are easier to work with. It also allows you to
monitor the risks from separate installations in a particular region, without having to perform a single
Safeti analysis that covers all of the installations.

The Study Manager does not perform any risk calculations

The Study Manager imports risk results from Safeti analysis files, so that the Study Manager file contains
a copy of the risk results as they were at the time of the import. When the Study Manager combines and
displays risk results, it is working with this copy of the original results.

If the input data or assumptions change for a particular Safeti analysis whose results have been
imported into the Study Manager, you must use Safeti to rerun the risk calculations. The Study Manager
will recognise that the results in the original Safeti analysis file have changed, will alert you to the fact
that the results that are held in the Study Manager are out of date, and will give you the option to
update them with the latest results held in the Safeti file.

The Study Manager does not give any breakdown of contributors to the risk
Safeti includes forms of risk results that give a detailed breakdown of the contribution that individual
Scenarios and types of hazardous effect make to the societal and individual risk. These forms of results
are not available in the Study Manager.

The forms of results that are available in the Study Manger can show the contribution made to the risk
by a particular Run Row, which means that you can compare the risk contributions from different Run
Rows. The Run Row is the lowest level of breakdown that can be viewed in the Study Manager.

The Study Manager only imports results from workspace files that are in the “exported” format
In Safeti, the File tab of the Ribbon Bar contains an Export Workspace option that saves the workspace
as a special format of *.psux file that has the database of risk results embedded inside it, along with any
map image files that are used by the workspace. The Study Manager only allows you to import
workspace files that are in this format, and will give an error message if you try to import a workspace
file that was saved with either the Save or Save As options.

Note: if you use the Console tool to run the calculations for a workspace separately from the Safeti
program window, the Console will always save the calculated workspace in the exported format. This
means that you will be able to import the calculated workspace into the Study Manager immediately
after the Console has completed the calculations, and you do not have to open the workspace in the
Safeti program first in order to use Export Workspace to create a version of the workspace in the
exported format.

1.1 The Features of the Study Manager
The illustration below shows a Study Manager workspace that has the results for two Safeti workspaces
imported, with FN Curve and Risk Contour results displayed.

The main features of the Study Manager window are described below.

The Risk Supertabs

The pane at the left-hand side of the window contains three “Risk Supertabs”: the Workspaces
Supertab shown in the illustration above, the Map Supertab, and the Results Supertab. They are
arranged in an order from left to right that reflects the stages in using the Study Manager.

The Workspaces Supertab shows all of the Safeti workspaces whose risk results have been
imported into the current Study Manager workspace, and lists the Run Rows in each workspace with a
tick next to the Run Rows that have imported risk results present. The supertab also shows the
definition of Combinations and Combination Factors across all imported workspaces and their Run Rows.
The supertab allows you to import risk results from Safeti workspaces, to remove a Safeti workspace
from the list, and to reimport the data for a Safeti workspace if the Safeti workspace has changed since
the results were imported. The supertab also allows you to add, delete and rename Combinations, and to
edit values for the Combination Factors.

The Map Supertab allows you to define the images and other graphical data that you want to use as
the background for displaying risk contour results.

When you view a form of risk results, you make selections for the details of the results that you want to
view, e.g. for the Run Row, or the risk level. When you are selecting these details, you have the option
of saving your selection for the details as a Results Selection, so that you can use those selections
again for viewing more risk results. The Results Supertab lists all of the saved Results Selections,
and allows you to edit them, and to use them to view risk results.

| RELEASE NOTE | Safeti version 7.2 | Page 3

The Ribbon Bar
You perform most of your actions in the program using the Ribbon Bar along the top of the window, and
also using the menu that appears when you right-click in various places in the window.

Some of the tabs in the Ribbon Bar are always present, whereas others only appear if a particular type
of View has focus (i.e. was the last View in which you clicked). In the illustration on the previous page,
the Workspaces Supertab has focus, and this means that the Workspaces tab is present in the
Ribbon Bar. If you clicked on the Risk Contour results on the right-hand side of the window, the
Workspaces tab would disappear from the Ribbon Bar, and tabs with features for working with Risk
Contours would appear instead.

The GIS Input View

The GIS Input View appears in the Document View area, i.e. the area on the right side of the program
window, underneath the Ribbon Bar side. This view displays the map images that have been defined in
the Study Manager and that will be displayed in the background of risk contour results.

Results Views for FN Curve and Risk Contours

A Results View with FN Curve or Risk Contour results or a will appear in the Document View area if you
choose one of the options from the gallery of Risk results in the Home tab of the Ribbon Bar, or in the
right-click menu for a Results Selection in the Results Supertab.

You can have any number and combination of FN Curves and Risk Contours open at a time.

The Output View

The Output View is a separate pane along the bottom of the program window. It displays messages
about various operations, including information on any errors that might occur during import or during
the display of results.

The Search View

The Search View appears in a separate tab in the same pane at the Output View. If you use the Search
options in the Home tab of the Ribbon Bar to search for items that include a particular text, all of the
Map nodes or messages that include the search term will be listed in the Search View.

1.2 The Stages in using the Study Manager
There are several stages in using the Study Manager to define a particular collection of risk results from
different Safeti workspaces, and to compare or combine these results.

Stage 1: Running the Study Manager and creating a new workspace

The Study Manager is installed automatically when you install the Safeti program. The set of program
shortcuts for Safeti will include a Study Manager shortcut.

The definition of a particular Study Manager analysis is saved in a *.psmx Study Manager workspace file.
Whenever you run the Study Manager, it starts with a new workspace. This means that if you have just
started the program running, you do not need to take any additional steps in order to start a new
analysis.

Stage 2: Setting up map images

This stage is optional. If the Safeti workspaces that you import into the Study Manager have map data
defined, these definitions will also be imported into the Study Manager, in addition to the risk results.
However, you can also define map data directly in the Study Manager, either as an alternative to the
map images in the Safeti workspaces, or in addition to them.

You use the Map Supertab to set up map data. The map images that you set up will then be
displayed in the GIS Views, which are the windows that are used in the program for working with
geographically-based information. The Risk Contours Results are presented in one of the types of GIS
View, giving a very direct presentation of the potential impacts of the hazardous events.

For further details of the process of setting up map images, click on Show Help at the right-hand side
of the Ribbon Bar to open the online Help, and click on “Setting up map image data” in the Contents tab
of the Help window.

Stage 3: Importing risk results and map definitions from Safeti workspace files
To import the risk results from a Safeti *.psux workspace file, take the following steps:

1. Move to the Workspaces Supertab.

When you move to the Workspaces Supertab from another tab or View, the Workspaces tools
will appear in the Ribbon Bar. If the tools are not present in the Ribbon Bar, click on the Map
Supertab (or on the GIS Input View, or on the Output View) and then back on the Workspaces
Supertab, and the tools will appear.

2. Click on the Import Workspace option in the Workspaces tab in the Ribbon Bar.

An Import Safeti Workspace dialog will open.

3. In the Import Safeti Workspace dialog, browse to select the *.psux file for the Safeti analysis
whose risk results you want to import.

The file you select must be in the exported format used by the Export Workspace option in the
File tab of the Ribbon Bar and by the Console application. If the file is in the local format used
by the Save / Save As options in the File tab of the Ribbon Bar, an error message will appear
telling you that no database was found inside the file, and explaining that only files saved using
Export Workspace can be imported.

4. Click on Open in the dialog to proceed with the import.

| RELEASE NOTE | Safeti version 7.2 | Page 5

The import process may take several seconds, depending on the number of Run Rows in the imported
Safeti analysis. During the import process, all Smoothed FN and Risk Contour risk results for the Safeti
analysis will be copied from the database for that analysis to the database for the current Study Manager
workspace. The definitions for map images will also be imported, although if a map image in a given
Safeti workspace has the same name as an existing map image in the Study Manager workspace, the
program will not import that map image again.

Once the import is complete, an entry for the Safeti

workspace will be added to the list of imported workspaces
in the Workspaces Supertab, with a list of all of the
workspace's Run Rows underneath the entry as shown in
the illustration.

All Run Rows are included in this list, even if they do not
have any risk results. Run Rows that have risk results are
displayed with a tick to the left of the name.

You can repeat the process described above any number of

times, to import the risk results from any number of Safeti
workspaces into the Study Manager.

If you select a Safeti workspace that does not have any risk results present, an error message will
appear stating that a risk database could not be found for the workspace, and no entry for the
workspace will be created in the Workspaces Supertab.

Note: you can make the list of Run Rows easier to work with and reduce the size of the Study Manager
workspace if you delete the Run Rows that do not have risk results. To delete a Row, click on it in the list
to select it, and then click on the Delete option in the Workspaces tab in the Ribbon Bar.

Stage 4: Defining Combination Factors appropriate to the full set of imported Run Rows
When you import the results from a Safeti workspace, the Study Manager handles the Combinations and
Combination Factors that are defined for that workspace as follows:

• If a Combination with that name already exists in the table of Combination Factors in the
Workspaces Supertab (e.g. a Combination called "Toxic"), the Study Manager will import the
Combination Factor values into the existing column for this Combination.

• If a Combination with that name does not already exist in the table, the Study Manager will
create a column for it at the end of the table, initially setting the Combination Factor to zero for
all Run Rows, and will then import the Combination Factor values for the current Safeti
workspace into the new column.

The Workspaces Supertab allows you to change the values for Combination Factors for any Run Row
for any imported workspace, and also to delete a Combination, add a new Combination, and rename a
Combination. Before you start to view the risk results, you should review the table of Combination
Factors, and set values that are appropriate for the type of analysis you want to perform with the Study
Manager.

Note: if the list of Run Rows includes Run Rows that do not have risk results present, you should set the
Combination Factor to zero for these rows, for all Combinations for which you want to view results in the
Study Manager. If a particular Combination has a non-zero factor for a Run Row that does not have risk
results, the Study Manager will not give you the option to view results for that Combination. For
example, Combination 1 in the illustration above has non-zero factors for the two Chlorine Storage
rows, which do not have risk results, and this means that the Study Manager will not allow you to select
Combination 1 for viewing risk results.
| RELEASE NOTE | Safeti version 7.2 | Page 6
Stage 5: Viewing the risk results
Once you have imported risk results from a Safeti workspace, the Risk
option in the Results section of the Home tab of the Ribbon Bar will
become enabled. When you click on the option, the gallery of
available Risk Results will appear as shown in the illustration.

When you select one of the types

of results from the gallery, a
Wizard dialog will open,
prompting you for options for the
details of the type and scope of
the results to view. The details of
the dialog depend on the type of
risk results that you selected,
and the illustration shows the
form of the dialog for the Multi-
Level Risk Contour Results.

All of the mandatory selection

fields in the dialog will initially be
unset, and other fields will have
default settings.

When you click on Finish, a Results View with the selected risk results will open in the Document View
area at the right of the program window.

For further details of the types of risk results and of the Wizard dialog, click on Show Help at the
right-hand side of the Ribbon Bar to open the online Help, and click on “Viewing risk results” in the
Contents tab of the Help window.

Stage 6: Saving the Study Manager workspace

Saving the *.psmx file will save the list of workspaces, Run Rows and Combination Factors in the
Workspaces Supertab, and also any Results Selections that you have saved to the Results Supertab, and
any changes you made to values for the workspace and in other dialogs.

Keeping the imported risk results up to date

Changes may be made in a Safeti analysis after you
have imported the risk results into the Study
Manager. For example, assumptions and input values
may change, or extra Scenarios may be added. In
this situation, the Study Manager will display an
orange border around the name of the workspace as
shown, to show that the data imported from the
workspace are out of date.

If you want to include the latest results from the Safeti analysis in your analysis in the Study Manager,
you must delete all of the Run Rows for the changed workspace from the Workspaces Supertab. This will
remove the workspace from the list, and you will then be able to reimport the data from the file.

2 THE CHANGES TO THE STUDY MANAGER FOR THIS VERSION
In Safeti 7.2, the Study Manager has an intuitive and flexible new interface, and some aspects of the
input data have been reorganised to improve visibility. Most of the options from the previous version are
still present, but in a different form or location, and some new options have been added.

Some of the features that are new in 7.2 have already been shown or mentioned in the previous section,
but this section gives a full list of the differences in the Study Manager between the previous version of
the program and version 7.2.

The program has a Ribbon bar instead of menus

The program follows the approach of modern Windows programs such as the Microsoft Office programs,
where commands are presented in a large icon-based toolbar that can always be visible, instead of in
text-based menus that are always hidden when not in use.

The Ribbon bar has several tabs. Some of these tabs are always present, whereas others only appear
when you are working in a particular part of the program.

The Workspaces tab and the Home tab contain the most common commands for working with the
Study Manager. You use the Workspaces tab to import risk results from Safeti workspaces, and the
Home tab to view risk results.

For further details in the Help: In the Index tab, enter “Ribbon bar”. The Help gives a full description of
the options in each tab of the Ribbon bar, and also guidance on
techniques for working with the Ribbon bar.

The Workspaces Supertab contains all of the data for the Run Rows
In the previous version, the Run Rows tab of the Study Tree contained the list of the imported Run Rows
and showed the status of the risk results data, while the list of Combinations and the values of the
Combination Factors for each Run Row were set in separately, in the dialogs for the nodes in the Run
Rows tab.

In 7.2, both of these aspects of the data for Run

Rows are combined in the Workspaces Supertab, as
shown in the illustration.

This supertab lists all of the Safeti workspaces with

imported risk results, showing the status of the
results for each workspace, and it allows you to
import results from additional workspaces, remove
results from the list, and update results.

The Supertab also shows the Combinations and sets

of Combination Factors that have been defined for
the different Run Rows, presenting them in the form
of a table or grid. You can add, delete and rename
Combinations, and edit values for the Combination
Factors.

For further details in the Help: In the Index tab, enter “Workspaces Supertab”. The Help gives a full
description of the features of the supertab and the techniques for working
with it.

| RELEASE NOTE | Safeti version 7.2 | Page 8

Selections in wizard dialogs for Risk Results can be saved and used again
Whenever you select the option to view a form of results, a Wizard dialog will appear prompting you to
make selections for the details of results that you want to view. The definition of the selections that you
make in this dialog are known as a Results Selection.

All of the selection screens of the Wizard dialog include a Save

selection checkbox. If this box is checked, then when you click
on the Finish button in the Wizard dialog, an entry for that
Results Selection will be added to the Results Supertab - which
is a new feature in the Study Manager. The illustration shows a
Results Supertab with three saved Results Selections.

If you right-click on a Results Selection, a menu will appear as shown listing all
of the forms of results that appear in the Risk Results gallery. If you select one
of the forms of results from the menu, the Wizard dialog for that form of
results will open, with the saved selections already set up in the appropriate
screens in the dialog.

You can also edit the definition of a saved Results Selection, or rename or
delete it.

For further details in the Help: In the Index tab, enter “Results Supertab”.

Changes to format and handling of workspace files

“Workspace” is the term used with v7.2 for the files that you create that contain the details of an
analysis.

The default file format in v7.2 is a *.psux file in Safeti and a *.psmx file in the Study Manager. These
files are in a compressed xml format.

You cannot save to *.psu files in v7.2, which means that a file that was created in v7.2 cannot be
opened in v6.7.

There will always be a workspace open in the program

In v6.7, the program could have no Study Folder open, either on start-up, or if you used the Close
option in the File menu. In this situation there would be no Study Tree present.

In v7.2, the program starts up with a new blank workspace already opened, and if you use the Close
option in the File tab of the Ribbon bar, the current workspace will be closed and a new blank workspace
will be opened. This means that the Risk Supertabs are always present (unless you have manually closed
every View in the Tree).

The default location for workspace files is now under Documents

In v6.7 the default location for workspace files was C:\DNVUser. This has been changed, and the default
location is now a DNVGL folder under Documents.

You can use the Preferences… option under the File tab in the Ribbon Bar to change the setting for the
default location.
| RELEASE NOTE | Safeti version 7.2 | Page 9
The program uses an SQL database to store risk results
The program uses an SQL database to store the risk results for both Safeti and the Study Manager. By
default the program uses SQL Server Express, and SQL Server Express is installed as part of the
installation process for the program.

Most of the time, the use of the database will not affect the behaviour of the program. You may see the
database mentioned in some information messages written to the Output View, but otherwise you will be
able to ignore the fact that the risk results are stored in a database that is separate from the *.psmx
workspace file.

However, there are some situations in which you will have to take the use of the database into account:

• if you have used Windows Explorer to change the name of the workspace file or to move it to a
different location.

• if you have used Windows Explorer to create a copy of a workspace file.

• if you want to copy a workspace file and all of its risk results to a different machine.

• if your computer has both a C: and a D: drive and you want databases to be written to the D:
drive

• if the analysis produces a very large volume of risk results.

For details of dealing with these situations, see the topic in the Contents tab of the Help on “Working
with the database of risk results”.

Graphs are easier to navigate, read and customise

There have been changes to the presentation and appearance of Graphs which make the FN Curve
results easier to work with.

The Graph Configuration tab will

be present in the Ribbon Bar
whenever an FN Curve results
view has focus, and it contains
options that allow you to control
almost every aspect of the
appearance, such as the text and font for titles, the minimum and maximum values for each axis, the
style of major and minor gridlines, the style of lines (or “Series”), and the position of the legend.

For further details in the Help: In the Index tab, enter “Ribbon Bar” for details of the options in the
Configuration tab.

| RELEASE NOTE | Safeti version 7.2 | Page 10

The elements of the program window are easier to organize and control
There are various panes and windows used in the program, and the general term for these panes and
window is View. With the new interface, there are many options available for arranging the Views to
make them easier to work with for your current task.

The general default

arrangement of the
elements is similar to
the previous version,
with the Supertabs (for
input data) along the left
of the window, the
Output View (for
messages) along the
bottom, and with GIS
Views, Risk Results and
Graphs (known as
Document Views)
shown in the display
area at the right of the
window, as shown in the
illustration.

However, Document Views are now presented in a way that makes them easier to navigate, with each
View presented in its own tab within the display area, so that you can see from the tab headers which
Views are currently open, and move between them easily. In the illustration above, the three Document
Views that are open in the display area can easily be identified from their tab headers: the GIS Input
View, an FN Curve View, and a Multi-Vulnerability Risk Contour View.

If this default arrangement is not suitable for your current task, you
can change the arrangement by dragging Views to different locations.
To move a particular View, drag it by its tab header or title bar. When
you are dragging a View, a cross-shaped control will appear over the
window, as shown in the illustration, and you release the cursor in a
particular area of the control to place the View in a particular relation to
other Views.

The details of the control depend on the type of View that you are
dragging. The illustrations shows the form of the control when you are
dragging a Document View (e.g. an FN Curve). If you release the
cursor in one of the four outer areas in the control - the New Group
options - then the program will create a new Document View group on the other side of the current
group in the direction corresponding to the area that you chose, and it will move the current View to this
new group. You would use this option to be able to see two FN Curves side-by-side, for example.

The area in the centre of the control shows a group with multiple Views in it, shown by the tab headers
for the different Views. This is the Add to Group option, and if you have more than one group and you
want to move a particular View to a different group, you should drag the View into the other group and
select the Add to Group option in the control for that group. You would use this option if you no longer
wanted to see two FN Curves side-by-side, and wanted to place them back in the same group.

| RELEASE NOTE | Safeti version 7.2 | Page 11

The options in the controls can become complicated, depending on the current arrangement of groups
and on the type of View that is under the cursor at a given time. The best way to learn how to use them
is by experimentation. If you choose the wrong control and the View does not appear as you wanted it,
you can simply move the View again until you get the correct arrangement.

The other new option is the Auto Hide option, which appears in
the Options menu for the Risk Supertabs and for the Output View,
as shown. If you select this option, then the current group of tabs
will automatically collapse itself against the side of the main
program window whenever you move the cursor away from the
group. If you move the mouse over one of the tab headers in a
collapsed group, that View will expand or pop up, and you can
work in the View.

For further details in the Help: In the Index tab, enter “Views”. The Help gives a full description of the
different types of View, and of the various techniques for working with
them.

You can now control the size of dialogs

In previous versions, the size of each dialog was fixed. In v7.2 you can change the size and proportions
of a dialog by dragging the sides or corners. As you change the size, the fields will be rearranged to fit
the changed space available.

The program remembers the size that you set for each dialog

If you change the size of a dialog while working in it, it will keep the changed size for the next time you
open it.

The program remembers the size separately for each dialog, so you can set your favourite working size
for the Leak Scenario dialog and for the Weather dialog, for example, and it will open each dialog with
the appropriate size for that type of dialog.

The program can also remember the size that you set for arrays within a dialog

Some dialogs include arrays (or tables) as shown in the

illustration. Each array has a “resize” control in the form of a
triangle of dots at the bottom right of the table, and you can
drag this triangle to change the size of the table to make it
easier to work with, as shown in the illustration.

For each dialog, the program will remember the size that you set for each array in the dialog if the Save
table width and height option is checked in the Application Preferences dialog. To open the Application
Preferences dialog, click on the Preferences button at the bottom right of the File tab in the Ribbon Bar.

However, if you changed the width of the columns for a particular array, the program will not remember
this change and the next time you open the dialog you will find that the columns have returned to the
standard width.

For further details in the Help: In the Index tab, enter “Input Dialogs” for details of the features of
dialogs and techniques for working with them.

| RELEASE NOTE | Safeti version 7.2 | Page 12

Better information and control over different types of message
The Output View is the name in v7.2 for
the View that gives messages about
operations, e.g. about importing risk
results from a Safeti workspace, or about
viewing results.

In v7.2, the program uses icons to

distinguish between Errors, Warnings and information Messages, and the toolbar along the top of the
View contains buttons that show the number of messages of each type currently displayed in the view,
e.g. 19 Warnings, in the illustration above.

You can use the buttons that show the number of messages to
choose whether or not to view a particular type of message. By
default all three types are displayed, but you can click on the button for a type of message to hide those
messages. In the illustration, the 19 Messages are hidden, as shown by the red bar over the icon. If a
type of message is currently hidden, you click on the button again to return to showing those messages.

For further details in the Help: In the Index tab, enter “Output View”.

Improved Search functionality

The Tools tab of the Ribbon bar includes a Search section
which allows you to search the Map Supertab and the Output
View for a particular piece of text in the names of nodes or in
messages.

Enter the search term in the Search value field and then click on the Search button. All of the nodes or
messages that include the search term will be listed in the Search View, which is a separate pane that
appears by default in the same group as the Output View. If you double-click on the entry for a search
result in the Search View, the program will select that item in the appropriate View.

Simple method for changing the language used inside the program
The Tools tab of the Ribbon Bar includes a Display Language option that allows
you to change the language used in the Ribbon Bar, the dialogs, and the various
forms of results. The change will occur as soon as you select a language from the
list, although the text will not be changed in any results Views that were open at the
time you made the selection. You would have to open new results Views in order to
see the results with the changed language.

Note: the online Help is currently only available in English, and will not change to the selected language.

| RELEASE NOTE | Safeti version 7.2 | Page 13

The colours for risk contours are now set in the workspace dialog
In v6.7, the colours to be used for risk contours
were set in the Graph Preferences dialog. In v7.2,
they are set in the workspace dialog (i.e. the
dialog for the node at the top of the Study Tree).
This is different from previous versions of the
program, where the node at the top of the tree
did not have any input data.

Note: Some of the workspace-level options that

were in the Preferences in previous versions have
not been included in v7.2 because they are no
longer relevant. Details are given in a later
section.

Program-level options are now set in a new Application Preferences dialog

Program-level options are settings that apply to the program as a whole, and that are not specific to a
particular workspace.

In v6.7, program-level options were

set in the Installation and General
Preferences dialogs along with
workspace-level options. In v7.2, the
program-level options have been
separated from the workspace-level
options and placed in a new
Preferences dialog that you open by
clicking on the Preferences… option in
the File tab in the Ribbon bar.

Most of the options in the dialog are

new with v7.2, and affect the
behaviour of new aspects of new user
interface, such as whether or not to save changes that you made to the arrangement of Views.

Many of the program-level options that were in the Preferences in previous versions have not been
included in v7.2 because they are no longer relevant. Details are given in a later section.

For further details in the Help: Click on the Help button in the Preferences dialog for details of the fields.

3 OTHER DIFFERENCES AND BUG FIXES

3.1 Some functionality from v6.7 has not been included in v7.2
Some options from the Preferences are no longer present
In the previous version, the Preferences included an Import tab that allowed you to choose whether or
not to import the definitions of raster images or feature classes when importing data from a Safeti file,
and whether or not to import a map definition if the Safeti Manager file already included the definition of
a raster image or feature class with the same name.

These Import options are not included in 7.2. The Study Manager now always imports the definition of
map images, and will never import a map definition if the Safeti Manager file already includes a map
definition with the same name. You can use the Map Supertab to delete any imported map definitions
that are not relevant to your Study Manager analysis or to define additional map images that were not
included in the import operation.

The Preferences also included a Startup tab with options for opening a file on program startup, but
these are no longer relevant or necessary in 7.2.

The Risk Summary Report is not available

The Risk Summary Report has not been included in 7.2, either in Safeti or in the Study Manager.

The Administration option to change the template for a new Study Manager workspace is not available
In the previous version, it was possible to run the Study Manager in Administration mode. In this mode,
an extra option was available in the File menu to save the current Study Manager file as the template for
all new Study Manager files, i.e. to be used whenever you selected New from the File menu. If you had
some map image files that you always wanted to use in the Study Manager, you might set up a template
file that had these map images already defined.

There is no equivalent of this option in 7.2, and the new Study Manager workspace will always use the
template that is supplied when you install the program.

3.2 Bug Fixes

There are several bug fixes in the modelling and the user-interface.

For a complete list of bugs fixed since the previous version, you can access the Customer Portal using
the link in the Help tab of the Ribbon Bar. To log into the portal you must enter a valid user name and
password, which you can obtain from your local DNV GL Software office.

The D number given for each item is a unique reference number. If you require more information on a
particular item, please quote the D number when you contact the Support Desk.

D-05753, D-05843 Errors loading dll files on program startup

Description In some situations, the installation of another program on the computer would
set values for Windows environment variables that meant that the program
could not locate and load certain dll files when it was starting up. This might
prevent the program from starting up at all, or cause problems with some parts
of the program, e.g. give blank reports.

The approach to searching for dll files has been changed and the program will
now be able to locate and load all dlls correctly, no matter what settings have
been made by other programs that are installed on the computer.

4 ALERTS AND WORKAROUNDS
There are some known bugs that have not been fixed in v7.2, and some aspects of the program that
may give behaviour that you do not expect, e.g. because of minor enhancements or minor changes in
the modelling that may produce slight differences in the results.

For the most up-to-date list of known bugs and other issues, you can access the Customer Portal using
the link in the Help tab of the Ribbon Bar. To log into the portal you must enter a valid user name and
password, which you can obtain from your local DNV GL Software office.

The D, SI or TK number given for each item is a unique reference number. If you require more
information on a particular item, please quote the reference number when you contact the Support Desk.

D-04338 The program crashes if you insert an External Connection of type KML while the
coordinate system is set to “Rectified Skew Orthomorphic”

Description The crash may occur as soon as you insert the External Connection, or it may only
occur when you try to insert a Feature Class under the External Connection.

If you choose a different coordinate system, you will be able to insert a KML
External Connection successfully.

D-05442 Confusing error message on opening a file that has a link to external GIS data that
is not present

Description If you open a file that has an External Connection defined to a source of GIS data
and the GIS data is not present at the location specified for the External
Connection, two error messages will be written to the Output View. The first
message gives the path and name of the missing file, and the second refers to
“database” and “warehouse” connections. These are terms used by the GIS system
for its data connections, and do not refer to a database of Scenario results or to a
warehouse defined as a Building.

D-08031 Program crashes if you change the selection of database server and do not then
restart the program

Description The Application Preferences dialog under the File tab of the Ribbon Bar allows you
to change the selection of database server. If you use the dialog to change the
selection of server, you should immediately exit from the program and restart it. If
you do not restart the program, the program will crash as soon as you try to run
risk calculations or view risk results.

D-08276 The effect of an Undo operation in the Results Supertab is only visible after you
have saved and reopened the workspace file

Description If you rename or delete a Results Selection in the Results Supertab, and then use
the Undo option at the left of the title bar to undo that change, the change will still
appear to be present. However, if you save the workspace file and then reopen it,
you will see that the change has been undone, e.g. that the renamed Results
Selection has returned to its previous name, or that the deleted Results Selection
has been restored.

D-08354 FN Curve Risk Results not generated if both Safeti Onshore and Safeti Offshore are
installed

Description If you have Safeti Offshore installed in addition to Safeti Onshore, then the options
in the Risk Results Gallery to view FN Curves will not work, i.e. no plot will be
generated if you choose one of these options.

D-08500 Program may crash if you do not restart the program immediately after changing
the language to Chinese

Description If you use the Display Language option in the Tools tab of the Ribbon Bar to
change the language to Chinese and then open an existing workspace file, the
program may crash when you try to exit from the program.

To avoid this issue, you should always exit from the program and restart it
immediately after changing the language to Chinese.

D-08592 When inserting a connection to an external GIS database, the program allows you
to choose a data source that is not of the type that you selected

Description In the Insert dialog for inserting an External Connection to a GIS database, you
must select the Connection type (i.e. Access, CAD, ArcView, etc.). However, when
you then browse to select the database file, the File Browse dialog allows you to
select any type of file.

If the file that you select is not in the correct format for the selected Connection
type, the program will not give an error and will proceed with inserting a node for
the External Connection in the Study Tree, but you will not be able to view any
data for this connection in the GIS Views.

SI 8519 Dialogs cannot display all the text with some display settings

Description This can happen if the DPI (dots per

inch) setting field in the Display
Advanced Settings is set to 120 or
another large value instead of to 96. This
confuses the display of the dialogs so
that part of the window will not be
displayed and the mouse will no longer
work on the OK and Cancel buttons.

The workaround is to set the dots per

inch setting back to 96, as shown.
