Lesson Directions
Aim In this lesson students will learn how to give and follow directions around a city and inside a
building. They will finish the lesson with a practical exercise, giving each other directions
around the school grounds and then really following them!

Time ● Lesson A: Directions around a city with a map.


● Lesson B: Directions inside a building.
● Lesson C: Practical exercise giving directions around the school grounds.
Materials ● Getting Around Town handout
● Map

Stage Activity Notes


Warm-up ● Discuss Left/Right 左/右 ✓ Practice.
Handout: ● Repeat vocabulary and check meanings ✓ Encourage students to offer
Directions ➢ Give examples with drawings on board translations.

Activity: Map ● ALT gives directions and students follow on map ✓ Write phrases on board.
Game ➢ Vary directions to use many phrases and vocabs
➢ Check student accuracy and demonstrate common
errors with corrections on board
● Students work in pairs giving each other directions

Additional ● Give students vocabulary for directions in a building: ✓ Students write on back of
