Pilot System Pressure - Test

SMCS - 5050-032-PS

Required Tools
Part Number Description

8T-5320 Hydraulic Test Group

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the
engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is
not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before
removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when
the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with
your bare hand.

Sudden movement or accidental starting of the machine can cause

personal injury or death to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent personal injury or death, perform the following:

Park the machine on a smooth, level surface.

Lower the bucket and/or attachments to the ground and engage the
parking brake.

Stop the engine and remove the key.

Block the wheels and install the steering frame lock.

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop

Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

3. Start the engine and run the engine at high idle. Bring the oil to normal operating temperature. The
pressure reading should be 3450 ± 200 kPa (500 ± 29 psi).

4. If the pressure reading is correct, proceed to Step 8.

5. If the pressure reading is not correct, stop the engine and release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer
to Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release".

6. For an electro-hydraulic system, replace 114-1266 Pressure Reducing Valve (2). For a pilot hydraulic
system, replace the 154-0191 Pressure Reducing Valve. Tighten the valve to a torque of 60 ± 7 N·m
(45 ± 5 lb ft).

7. Repeat Step 3 through 5.

8. Stop the engine and remove the test equipment from pressure tap (3) .

4. Stop the engine. The oil must be at normal operating temperature. The pressure reading should be
2070 ± 200 kPa (300 ± 29 psi).

5. If the pressure reading is correct, proceed to Step 9.

6. If the pressure reading is not correct, release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Testing and
Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release".

7. Replace the 114-1267 Secondary Pressure Reducing Valve (2). Tighten the valve to a torque of 60 ± 7

8. Repeat Steps 3 through 6.

9. Remove the test equipment from pressure tap (3) .
