A. Preliminary Activities

Teacher
In the previous module, you have learned how non- metals make chemical
bonds by sharing electrons from their outer shells to attain stable electronic
configurations. This is also the process by which every carbon compound or
organic compound is formed. In this module, the lessons will be about the uses
and properties of common organic compounds like hydrocarbons, aldehydes and
ketones, carboxylic acids and alcohols.
C. Motivation
Show them pictures of the following products: gasoline, isopropyl alcohol, ethyl
alcohol, LPG, acetone, and acetic acid. These products are all composed of
organic compounds.
D. Lesson Proper
Let your students work in groups. Tell them to brainstorm about the uses of the
compounds listed in Table 1 on page 132. Using the format of the table on the
module, let the students write their outputs on a piece of manila paper. After the
given working time, ask the representatives from selected groups to present their
outputs in front of the class.
