NARRATIVE REPORT

With the objective of establishing the research culture among the students and faculty
members of the College of Hospitality Management and Tourism (CHMT), the College had conducted
a Student Research Congress participated by select BS Hotel and Restaurant Management and BS
Tourism Management 4th year students. Here, College invited panel members from the San Beda
University in the person of Dr. Jojo Villamin, President of PARTH and Prof. Jame Monren T. Mercado,
a research fellow and faculty of the University of Sto. Tomas.

At 9:00 am, the activity was commenced by an opening prayer and singing of the Philippine
National Anthem thru an audio visual presentation. The Dean, Assistant Professor Charmine V.
Rivera, gave her welcome remarks. She emphasizes the necessity of doing research in any human
endeavour. Also, she mentioned essence of the skills that the students may develop with research
writing. For the faculty members, the Dean highlighted that research is one of the mandatory

functions of any university, hence faculty are enjoined to continuously conduct the same in line with
the research agenda and needs of the university’s stakeholders.
The activity was divided into two parts. The morning session was the research presentation
among three participants from BSTM and BSHRM student researchers, in three separate categories.
The students were required to present their research papers among the invited penal of evaluators
during oral presentation proper for descriptive category, while the experimental researches were
presented by the authors in Poster Presentation contest. The groups of students were required to
make a presentation of not more than 10 minutes, then question and answer ensued thereafter.
For BSTM, Descriptive Research Papers Category was participated by the following students:

oral presentation category, and Mr. Romero and Halili for poster Category were adjudge as winners.
In the afternoon, In-house of Faculty Researches was introduced and opened. Prof. Monren
and Dr. Villamin gave their respective comments and suggestions on all of the faculty research
proposals presented.

After the presentation, certificates of appreciation and tokens were awarded to Prof.
Mercado and Dr. Villamin. Finally, Mr. Rushid Jay Sancon, the CHMT Research Implementing Unit
Head, delivered closing remarks and words of gratitude for the guests and cooperation of the
participants.
