This Indian Standard (part 1) (First Revision) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft
finalized by the Industrial Trucks Sectional Committee had been approved by the Transport Engineering
Division Council.

The purpose of this standard is to provide a guide for the manufacturers and users of powered industrial trucks.
This standard was first published in 1972. The revision of this standard has been taken up to align it with
ISOIDIS 1214/1 'Powered industrial trucks - Parameters for designation of rated capacity and capacity-
Part 1 : Powered high lift trucks'.

III this standard, the following changes have been incorporated:

a) Standard load centre distance is explained in detail,

b) Terminology has been included, and
c) Title has been aligned with ISO standard.

The composition of the Committee responsible for formulation of this standard is given in Annex A.

Fur the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value,
observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance
with IS 2 : 1960 'Rules for rounding off numerical values (revised)'. The number of significant places retained
in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.

1 SCOPE
Thi s sta nda rd (P art I) defines the rated cap acity and
capacit y for a ll high lift truck s with respect 10 spec ifi ed
lift hei ght and load centre distances and app lies to high
lift trucks equ ipped with an elev a ting mast and forks
or platform. up to and including a maximum rated
capac ity of 10000 kg .

3 TERMINOLOGY
3.1 Rated Capacity
Rated capac ity o f a high lift truck equipped with a load
carriag e a nti for ks or platform, is the maximum load
Q, establi shed by the manufacturer. at a designated
s ta nda rd load centre distance (DH) that a given truck
is designed to transport in a carry position. and stack
to a sta nda rd lift height with ma st vert ical. Rated
capacity is a means for comparing the load handling
capability o f trucks .
3.2 Capacity

Capacity is used to designate the load handling
capability of a particular truck as equipped.
4 NOMENCLATURE
The nomenclature used in this standard for rated
capacity designation is as follows (set' Fig. I) :
DH - horizontal load centre di stan ce from the
centre of gravity of the load to the front
face of the fork arm sha nk.
D; - vertical load ce ntre distance from the
centre of gra vity of the load to the upper
face of the fork arm blade (or platform).
H - standard lift height.
E ma ximum lift height.
NOTE - E may be greater than. equal 10 or Ie" than If.
G - load centre of gravity.
Q - ma ximum load for test involved (uc 3.1).
5 RATED CAPACITY DESIGNATION
5.1 Standard Lift Height
For the purpose of commerci al compari son . the
sta nda rd lift height (H). sha ll be:
a) 2.5 m for high lift pallet stackers and platform
trucks having a width across fork arms or plat-
form up to and including 690 mm.
b) 3.3 m for all other high lift trucks.
5.2 Standard Load Centre Distances
5.2.1 For counterbalanced high lift tru ck s. including
rough terrain trucks. up to and including 10 000 kg
rated capacity the sta ndard load ce ntre distances OH
and D v shall be as given in Table 1.
