Stipulations:-

Grade of Concrete =M25

Grade of Steel = Fe500

CALCULATION OF WEIGHT OF THE STRUCTURE

1) Total weight of the Tank Proper

Volume of Tank proper as obtained from Autocad 2007 = 100.02 m3.

 Wt. Of the tank proper = 100.02 x 25 KN/m3

2) TOTAL WEIGHT OF THE WATER

Volume of water as obtained from AutoCAD 2007 = 453.10 m3

 Wt. Of water = 453.10 x 9.81 KN/m3 = 4444.91 KN

3) TOTAL WEIGHT OF THE STAGING PORTION:-

Columns:-

= x 0.602 x (20.11+1.45-0.80) x 6 no. x 25 KN/m3 = 880.46 KN
4
Bracings:-
= (2x3.90 sin 30⁰-0.60) x 6 no. x 0.40 x 0.675 x 6 Lvls x 25KN) m3 = 801.90 KN
Staircase + Rails:-

Length of each flight = 3.32  4.02 = 5.20 m

= { (5.20 x 0.75 x 0.25 x4no.) + ½ (1.155 + 0.60) x 0.75 x 5x 0.15 (+) 5x0.25x015x1.0} x
1.05 x 25KN/m3
(Considering 5% as the wt. for the rails)
= 102.25 KN
 Total weight of staging = 801.90 + 880.46 + 120.25 = 1802.61 KN

C.G distance of empty Container from top of the Heel beam = 2.602m (AutoCAD-
2007)

 Height of Dummy member = 2.602 + 0.80/2 = 3.002m

PARAMETERS OF SPRING-MASS MODEL

Total Wt. Of water = 4444.91 KN (As obtained earlier)

 Mass of water = 4444.91 x 1000/9.81 = 453100 kg
Let, h be the height of equivalent circular cylinder
 π (D/2)2 x h = 453.10 m3
 h=4.95m

 h/D = 4.95/10.80 = 0.46

 mi/m = 0.51  mi = 0.51 x 453100 = 231081 kg

& mc/m = 0.48  mc = 0.48 x 453100 = 217488 kg

And hi/h = 0.375  hi = 1.856m

hi* /h = 0.875  hi* = 4.331 m

hc/h = 0.594  hc = 2.94 m

hc* /h = 0.828  hc* = 4.10 m

Now [Weight of empty container + 1/3rd weight of staging] x 1000/9.8
 ms = [(2500.50 + 160.68) + 1/3 x 1802.61] x 1000/9.81
= 3262.05 x 1000/9.81 = 332523 kg
 ms = 332523 kg
 TOTAL SEISMIC WEIGHT OF THE STRUCTURE

= (2611.11 + 4444.91 + 1/3 x 1802.61) KN

= 7657 KN = 780530 kg
Stiffness calculation of the staging portion of the 400m3 OHR :-

Creating a STAAD model of the staging portion of the OHR and applying an arbitrary
load of 10 KN at the C.G of the tank we get the following deflection:-
  0.728 mm = 7.28 x 10-4 m
 Corresponding stiffness’s obtained are as order:-
Ks = 10 KN/7.93 x 10-4m = 13736.26 = 13736 KN/m

Time period of the Impulsive mode:-

CALCULATION OF BASE MOMENT:-

OVERTURNING MOMENT AT THE BASE OF THE STAGING IN THE IMPULSIVE MODE:-

M i*  ( Ahi ) mi  hi*  hs   ms hcg   g

Here,hcg=(1.45+3.55+4x3.30+3.10)+3.002

 hcg=24.302m

here, hi*  4.331m

hs = (1.45+3.55+4x3.30+3.10+0.80/2) = 21.70m

mi = 231081 kg

ms= 332523 kg

hence,

AGAIN, OVERTURNING MOMENT IN THE CONVECTIVE MODE:-

M c*  ( Ahc ).mc .  hc*  hs  .g

 0.048  217488   4.10  21.70   KNm
1000

 TOTAL OVERTURNING MOMENT:-

M c*  M i*  M c*
