Subject : Pressure Control of a Pilot Plant

Date : 27 April 2015

Dear future engineers,

You are required to tune the pressure controller of a pilot plant. I assume that all of you already
expert on the behaviours and characteristics of PID controllers. Before you start doing the lab
works, please re-identify the process system in your.

Ok now, first of all, I want you to demonstrate what you’re planning to do for this assignment.
Don’t forget to make a list of data, information or guideline that you think is needed earlier
before performing the experiment. One more thing, explain to me the data and possible
responses that you plan to obtain/collect from the experiment. Which modes of PID controller
do you think is the most appropriate to control pressure? – justify your prediction. In addition, I
also would like to discuss with you where pressure control is very critical in industrial processes.

Guys, I want you to tune the controller using any acceptable method/s. You can do so in the
pressure pilot plant and/or in MATLAB-Simulink. If you intend to apply several tuning methods,
indicate which one is more reliable. Then, using the tuning parameters you’ve calculated,
evaluate the pressure dynamics through the use of different modes of PID controller. Which
mode is the most appropriate and does it fit the one that you’re proposing? Make sure you
justify your results and ideas well. Relate your results with any relevant theoretical concepts
and/or industrial practices too. Discuss your findings in a report and submit it to me on Sunday
after the experiment.

Good luck.
