remember 01:02 Lana she's the one with a scary looking 01:04 dog I don't want to hang out with that 01:06 dog you aren't afraid of that little 01:11 tiny dog are you 01:12 well I'm sure Rover isn't that the mall 01:15 actually I'm headed to the mall later 01:18 anyway there's a huge sale going on I 01:21 think they're open extra late great 01:24 maybe I'll see you there 01:25 sounds good we're both good shoppers if 01:29 I get there before you leave maybe I'll 01:31 see you after all we aren't leaving 01:33 until we see all the sales and I'm not 01:36 leaving until I have some cute new shoes 01:41 [Music] 01:42 [Applause] 01:49 hi I'm Lea Chen your neighbor from 01:52 around the block we're having a barbecue 01:54 Saturday and we thought you might like 01:56 to come lots of the neighbors will be 01:59 there Jay and Ramona are coming too 02:01 they're your neighbors across the street 02:03 it's nice to meet you Leah I'd like to 02:06 come but I'll be working all weekend on 02:08 a big project for my job well if you 02:12 change your mind come on over you're 02:14 welcome to come and I think it will be 02:16 fun for you to meet all the neighbors 02:18 thanks by the way I've been meaning to 02:21 talk to you I hope my dogs barking 02:23 doesn't bother you actually I wanted to 02:27 talk to you about that when you're gone 02:30 during the day the dog barks all the 02:32 time it's driving me nuts 02:35 I'm really sorry I'll keep the dog in 02:39 the house when I'm gone thanks so much I 02:42 hope you'll come over for some burgers 02:44 and dogs on Saturday and drop by our 02:46 house to visit anytime 02:53 [Music] 02:54 [Applause] 03:02 afternoon Unionville transit system this 03:04 is Stanley speaking hi I need some 03:08 travel information I need to go to 52nd 03:11 Street and Broadway 03:12 I live on 8th Street near Fifth Avenue 03:15 well you can take the b12 bus to Mercer 03:17 Street then you'll have to catch the B 9 03:20 you can take the subway too I live near 03:23 a bus stop so I prefer to take the bus 03:25 what time does it come the bus has run 03:28 about every 15 minutes bus schedules are 03:31 posted at the bus stop you can also 03:33 check our website how much does it cost 03:36 you'll need two dollars and change the 03:39 driver won't take dollar bills and he 03:41 won't give you change 03:42 make sure you have exact change okay 03:45 thanks for the help 03:46 have a good day 03:50 [Music] 03:51 [Applause] 03:59 large cities have very efficient subway 04:02 systems taking these trains can get you 04:04 just about anywhere in the city and you 04:07 don't have to wait outside in the rain 04:09 at some stations there may be people 04:12 singing or playing a musical instrument 04:14 this can be an entertaining way to wait 04:17 for the Train unless the singer isn't 04:19 very good for most subway systems you 04:23 will need a token or fare card you can 04:26 buy these right at the station either at 04:28 the token booth or at the ticket machine 04:30 you can put dollars right into the 04:33 Machine it will give you a fare card in 04:36 the amount you choose to get onto the 04:39 platform 04:39 slide the card into the card reader or 04:42 put a token into the slot then push 04:45 through the turnstile and hop on the 04:48 train 04:50 you 04:52 I need some tokens please one-way or 04:55 roundtrip roundtrip and unlike a few 04:58 extra ones please most people aren't 05:00 crazy about carrying around a lot of 05:02 tokens maybe you should just get a fare 05:05 card it's better than a pocket full of 05:07 tokens and you can use it anytime Thanks 05:10 that's a good idea 05:11 do I need exact change for a fare card 05:13 no the machine can take bills and it 05:16 will give you change thanks for the tip 05:18 now can you tell me where I get the 05:21 train to Broadway and where do the 05:23 trains arrive sure catch the train right 05:26 over there just follow the signs for 05:28 northbound uptown trains you'll have to 05:31 change at 34th Street for the D train 05:33 thanks and can you tell me where the 05:36 restroom is right over there on the left 05:43 [Music] 05:44 [Applause] 05:51 if the train and bus won't take you 05:54 where you need to go or if you're in a 05:56 hurry you can call a cab in larger 05:59 cities you can hail a cab on the street 06:01 just step off the sidewalk into the 06:04 street watch for cars and buses and 06:06 raise your arm you can also call out 06:10 taxi 06:11 in cities the fares are posted right in 06:14 the cab and the rates are set by a group 06:17 that regulates taxi companies if you 06:20 need a ride in a smaller city or town 06:22 you can call a car service this is a 06:25 private taxi company that usually does 06:28 not have cars driving around the streets 06:31 drivers wait in the office until someone 06:34 calls and then a manager will dispatch a 06:37 car you can also call in advance and 06:40 arrange to be picked up on another day 06:45 you 06:47 little Apple car service this is Larry 06:49 speaking hi I need a car to take me to 06:53 the airport at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow do you 06:56 need to be there at 5:30 or is that when 06:58 you want us to pick you up I need to be 07:00 at the airport at 5:30 or I'll miss my 07:03 flight 07:04 that's right in the middle of rush hour 07:06 traffic will be a nightmare at that time 07:09 I'll have a car get you at 2:00 p.m. 07:11 what's your address 07:17 [Music] 07:18 [Applause] 07:26 are you fed up with hanging around 07:28 waiting for buses and trains they go 07:31 everywhere but waiting at that bus stop 07:33 gets pretty chilly in winter cabs are 07:37 really convenient but they sure can be 07:39 expensive what's the perfect solution 07:42 Drive I know I know you may not have a 07:46 car the good news is that it's cheaper 07:49 to get a license than to get a car and 07:52 although you can't borrow a driver's 07:54 license you can rent a car but watch out 07:58 for those crazy drivers you'll need to 08:01 make sure you know the rules of the road 08:03 each state has all the information and 08:06 rules about getting a license on its DMV 08:09 website the bad news 08:12 there is usually a test 08:17 you 08:18 hi I'd like to get a New Jersey driver's 08:21 license do you want to renew in New 08:23 Jersey license or apply for a new one I 08:25 don't have a New Jersey license but I 08:28 have my license from my country you 08:30 can't use that here do you have an 08:32 application no I don't you'll need to 08:36 fill out an application do you have the 08:38 required picture ID yes I do and I have 08:42 my passport do I need anything else you 08:44 can check this list of required 08:46 documents if you have all the paperwork 08:49 you just need to take a vision test and 08:51 the written test when that person is 08:53 finished you can go to booth number nine 08:55 and have your picture taken 08:56 yikes can I skip the picture I'm having 09:00 a bad hair day sorry our state requires 09:04 a photo license 09:11 [Music] 09:12 [Applause] 09:19 so you'd like to take the family for a 09:22 drive in the country a train might take 09:25 you there but it's so much easier to see 09:28 the sights by driving around in a car 09:30 maybe it's time to rent a car it's 09:34 always a good idea to check many car 09:36 rental companies to find the best price 09:38 you can search on the internet or call 09:42 the company's 800 number what kind of 09:45 car do you want you'll need to decide on 09:48 a type economy midsize or luxury you can 09:53 choose the car that fits your needs be 09:56 prepared to pay more for larger cars 09:58 you'll also need to buy insurance just 10:01 in case a bear in the country decides 10:04 that your compact car is lunch 10:11 you 10:12 hello I'd like to rent a car for the 10:15 weekend do you have a driver's license 10:17 with you yes I do 10:19 if you want an economy car we have a 10:21 nice compact outside is it a four-door 10:24 no it isn't it's a two-door but it has a 10:27 hatchback and it has a sunroof do you 10:31 have anything bigger and faster well we 10:34 have a midsize convertible but the 10:36 compact is more economical how about a 10:39 big van I have a large family sure we 10:43 have a van it's very roomy it's the 10:46 biggest and most expensive of the three 10:48 well I'd like the convertible for myself 10:51 but I guess I'll take the van maybe next 10:55 time 11:00 [Music] 11:01 [Applause] 11:07 oops 11:08 what are those flashing lights behind 11:10 you oh no were you careful to watch the 11:14 speed limit signs along the road those 11:17 flashing lights don't mean a party this 11:20 time they mean the police officer would 11:22 like to have a little chat with you 11:24 maybe you shouldn't have rented that 11:26 fancy car after all the flashing lights 11:30 on a police car usually mean the police 11:33 officer has noticed a moving violation 11:35 if a cop pulls you over move to the 11:39 shoulder of the road right away as 11:40 safely as you can be careful of traffic 11:44 on the highway it's important to be 11:47 respectful to the officer even if you're 11:50 not sure why he or she is stopping you 11:56 you 11:57 good morning sir I pulled you over 12:00 because the speed limit is 50 miles per 12:03 hour 12:03 you were driving much faster than that 12:06 you were doing 70 I'm sorry officer I 12:09 didn't notice the sign but I thought I 12:12 was driving slower than that I need to 12:14 see your license and registration I 12:16 don't have my license with me I think I 12:19 left it at home 12:19 you need to have license and 12:22 registration with you in the car at all 12:24 time sir I'm going to issue you a ticket 12:27 for speeding and another one for not 12:29 having the proper documents you can call 12:32 the clerk's office to find out the 12:33 amount of the fines can I just pay you 12:36 now sir police officers aren't allowed 12:39 to take money you have to call the 12:42 clerk's office you can go there to pay 12:44 in person or you can mail it in this is 12:47 my first speeding ticket have a nice day 12:50 sir 12:56 I don't know about you but I'm exhausted 13:06 all that waiting for the bus and hailing 13:09 taxis has made me hungry hungry 13:13 yes in the mood to cook no way hmm the 13:19 hard part is deciding where to go and 13:21 what to eat restaurant choices are 13:24 endless steaks vegetarian meals burgers 13:28 pizza and ethnic cuisine from just about 13:31 every country on earth 13:33 even the picky eaters will be happy 13:37 but I think some takeout is just what 13:40 the doctor ordered there's nothing like 13:42 fast food after a busy day huh fast food 13:46 for when you're feeling slow but don't 13:49 let fast foods bad rap fool you it's 13:52 more than just Burgers and Fries with a 13:55 chocolate shake with people becoming 13:58 more health-conscious and conscious of 14:00 those extra pounds 14:02 restaurants are providing more and more 14:04 healthy choices salads water lean 14:08 proteins and whole grain breads in fact 14:12 many restaurants now post the calorie 14:14 counts of their menu items I'm not sure 14:17 I want to know that my mega cheeseburger 14:20 lunch has more calories than I need for 14:22 an entire day once you have your dream 14:26 dinner in mind you can just hop into 14:29 your car and head to the nearest 14:31 drive-thru sure it may seem a little 14:33 strange telling a machine that you want 14:36 a mega burger with cheese but when you 14:39 continue to the window to pay the 14:41 cashier will have your juicy burger 14:43 order all ready to go ah I can taste the 14:48 fries already 14:53 can I take your order please hmm a 14:57 burger sounds good I think I'll have a 15:00 mega burger with cheese extra pickles no 15:04 mayo anything to drink with that I'd 15:07 like a coke extra large anything else 15:11 yes a kid's meal with chocolate milk and 15:15 chicken nuggets would you like fries 15:17 with that hmm the fry smell great but do 15:22 you have fruit instead sure you can have 15:24 an apple or fruit cup mom you know I 15:28 like fruit cups but I'd like to have the 15:30 Apple but only if they put a pie around 15:33 it 15:36 [Music] 15:37 [Applause] 15:37 [Music] 15:46 Wow look at that guy he can really move 15:51 what's the big deal I can do that ha you 15:55 want me to believe that you can run like 15:58 a football player you don't think I can 16:01 of course I can okay maybe I can't but I 16:06 sure could run when I was in high school 16:08 I was a star of the school track team 16:10 wow you can remember all the way back to 16:14 high school well let's just watch the 16:19 pros whoo 16:21 touchdown I don't know about anyone here 16:24 running but both of you sure can eat 16:27 you're hogging all the snacks if you 16:30 guys don't stop picking out there won't 16:31 be any left for the next half past the 16:34 nachos here dig in not me I guess that's 16:39 a hint that I should watch my weight 16:44 [Music] 16:45 [Applause] 16:52 hi Fitness world Jim Larry speaking how 16:56 can I help you yes I'd like some 16:59 information on your gym memberships 17:01 please sure we have two different types 17:03 of memberships you can pay-as-you-go 17:06 where you pay five dollars every time 17:08 you want to use the facilities and five 17:10 dollars for every class you attend then 17:12 there's a monthly plan where you pay a 17:14 flat rate of forty five dollars per 17:16 month with the monthly plan you can come 17:18 in as often as you want and go to as 17:20 many classes as you want both plans 17:22 require an annual fee sounds good what 17:26 equipment do you have all the usual 17:29 stuff we have a cardio room with 17:31 treadmills ellipticals all that kind of 17:34 stuff a weight room with all sorts of 17:36 weight machines and free weights what 17:38 classes can I take we have yoga Pilates 17:42 aerobics there's a whole bunch of them 17:44 check out our website for more 17:46 information on the class schedules is 17:48 there a pool no but we do have a sauna 17:51 cafe and babysitting facilities that's 17:54 great what about the hours we're open 17:58 every day from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. would 18:00 you like me to schedule a tour for you 18:02 hey great can you throw in a free day 18:06 pass - sure drop in anytime and I'll 18:10 give you a day pass 18:16 [Music] 18:17 [Applause] 18:24 hey do you guys feel like heading up the 18:27 Delaware River next weekend the weather 18:29 should be great so we'll be able to go 18:32 canoeing you know me 18:34 I'm up for anything cool my brother has 18:38 a boat on a lake nearby we'll be able to 18:40 spend a day on the river and then go 18:42 waterskiing the next day a boat 18:45 count me out I get really seasick oh 18:49 don't be such a chicken it's a small 18:52 boat on a small Lake seriously if it 18:56 moves on the water and I'm in it I will 18:58 throw up okay Leah it looks like it's 19:02 just you and me for waterskiing do you 19:05 think you'll be able to handle it what 19:07 put two pieces of wood on my feet and 19:09 glide across the water of course I can 19:12 sorry I won't be able to join you though 19:15 I bet it will be pretty funny to watch 19:17 maybe I'll just watch a game on TV it's 19:21 your loss you'll miss seeing your two 19:24 friends water-ski like pros 19:30 [Music] 19:31 [Applause] 19:38 you've spent all that time working out 19:41 and getting into shape you must be 19:43 exhausted it's the perfect time for a 19:47 vacation there are vacation options for 19:50 any style and to suit any pocketbook 19:53 give me a five-star hotel and a fancy 19:56 resort but my buddy 19:58 prefers a small tent and a backpack full 20:00 of camping gear ooh 20:02 bugs let's take a look at some of the 20:05 choices maybe you're on a tight budget 20:08 maybe you spent too much for that gym 20:11 membership or you may have a crazy 20:14 schedule at work and you can't take too 20:16 many days off but you'd still like some 20:19 R&R; there's a perfect solution and even 20:23 a word to describe it staycation instead 20:27 of going away you stay right at home and 20:30 do fun vacation things nearby these day 20:34 trips can be as much fun as a fancy 20:37 vacation consider a trip to the Art 20:40 Museum or attend a concert 20:43 the kids packed the car and head to the 20:46 beach for a day of sun sand and surf 20:49 places like New York City have ferries 20:52 you can ride for free these boats will 20:56 make you feel like you're on a fancy 20:57 cruise well a fancy cruise without 21:00 waiters and fancy meals in New York City 21:04 the ferry to Staten Island gives you a 21:07 spectacular view of the Statue of 21:09 Liberty and it's free 21:12 feeling seasick go to a nearby park 21:15 where you can enjoy a nature hike 21:17 through the woods watch out for the 21:19 skunk's many local parks have wilderness 21:23 trails with signs that identify trees 21:25 plants and animals you may see along 21:28 your walk 21:30 for a day that's a bit more expensive 21:32 you might try a kid-friendly place like 21:35 the zoo an amusement park or a waterpark 21:38 don't forget the sunscreen 21:42 you have a little sunburn Lia I think 21:45 you enjoyed your vacation a little too 21:47 much actually we just stayed home 21:50 we took day trips and we discovered 21:52 places we didn't even know about right 21:54 in the neighborhood we even visited the 21:57 zoo it was great fun wow what a great 22:01 idea I finished painting the house it 22:05 was not great fun I printed out some new 22:08 recipes and cooked some interesting 22:10 ethnic meals too after we cleaned up we 22:13 walked around the neighborhood and 22:15 chatted with the neighbors and one day 22:17 we traveled to the beach and practiced 22:19 our beach volleyball skills I think 22:21 that's my new favorite sport the whole 22:24 week really was a fun staycation 22:30 [Music] 22:31 [Applause] 22:40 you love adventure you love the outdoors 22:42 you love cooking hot dogs over an open 22:45 campfire we have just the vacation for 22:49 you camping yes for the brave soul who's 22:54 not afraid of critters bad weather and 22:56 bad food this is another fun vacation 22:59 choice camping requires a lot of very 23:03 careful advanced planning you'll need to 23:07 have gear for hot weather and cold for 23:09 rain and sunshine and for grassy fields 23:13 and rocky riverbanks if you're in the 23:16 middle of nowhere you'll need to carry 23:18 your own food for all your meals pots to 23:22 cook it in plates to serve it on and 23:24 utensils to eat it with that means a big 23:28 and heavy knapsack you'll also need to 23:32 carry around your own little hotel a 23:34 tent and the equipment to put it up 23:38 don't forget a sleeping bag I'm 23:41 exhausted just thinking about it 23:43 people who love camping say there's 23:46 nothing as wonderful as sleeping under 23:48 the stars we don't know about you but 23:51 we're thinking that would make us bear 23:53 bait no thanks we don't want a bear to 23:57 eat us for a snack before we can even 23:59 eat our own trail mix people tell us 24:02 that camping can be fun but we'd rather 24:05 stay at a fancy hotel 24:09 our camping trip was sure a surprise 24:12 uh-oh what happened well it started out 24:17 fine we planned the trip carefully and 24:19 found exactly the right snacks we packed 24:22 all our stuff and we bought brand new 24:24 hiking boots we pitched our tent right 24:26 beside a small lake that sounds good 24:29 it sounded good to us too until we 24:33 finished our hike the first day we 24:35 forgot to break in the new boots our 24:38 feet were sore and blistered then we 24:41 noticed the big black clouds and 24:42 disaster struck it poured all night when 24:47 we woke up in the morning the tent was 24:49 collapsed around us and we were lying in 24:52 a huge puddle I guess next time you'll 24:57 stay in a hotel 25:04 [Music] 25:05 [Applause] 25:13 now we're talking about our favorite 25:15 vacation camping is fun if you like 25:19 sleeping in a tent in the rain with bugs 25:22 but give us a high-class resort any day 25:26 these can be very expensive but they're 25:30 fun to dream about even if we can't go 25:33 the amenities at a five-star resort can 25:36 make you feel like royalty so even if 25:40 the weather is bad you'll have a great 25:42 time an all-inclusive Resort is perfect 25:46 if you can't be bothered keeping track 25:48 of your expenses the price includes all 25:51 meals drinks and entertainment golf or 25:55 tennis the fitness center and children's 25:58 activities are also included the rooms 26:01 are often larger with king-sized beds 26:04 some places have all suites so you can 26:08 really spread out and the hotel usually 26:11 has a concierge who can arrange many 26:14 extra excursions in the local area like 26:17 chartering a boat to go deep-sea fishing 26:20 or planning a parasailing adventure be 26:23 aware that these excursions are not 26:26 included in the cost other amenities 26:29 that may not be included are the spa a 26:31 salon and other trips to nearby 26:34 attractions be sure to know in advance 26:37 exactly what fun activities are included 26:40 the downside to an all-inclusive plan is 26:44 that you may not decide to explore the 26:46 local town restaurants after all you've 26:50 already paid for your meals at the hotel 26:52 on the other hand if you're in heaven 26:55 who wants to leave anyway 26:59 you 27:01 Wow we had a great time on vacation yeah 27:05 Susan told me you went to a really cool 27:08 place yeah it was an awesome 27:11 all-inclusive resort we paid for the 27:13 hotel and everything we wanted to do was 27:15 include it tell me more 27:17 well the kids spend lots of time in the 27:20 arcade Susan and I were happy because 27:22 they had a beautiful golf course and of 27:24 course we spent hours on the beach it 27:27 was heaven just sitting in beach chairs 27:29 and watching the ocean what about water 27:32 sports oh it was so cool we dope for 27:36 shells one day and water skeet another 27:38 day the camp counselors taught the kids 27:40 how to make paper boats they thought it 27:42 was awesome we even brought some little 27:45 boats home for souvenirs wow you were 27:48 busy 27:49 yeah we sure we're but I think we ate 27:52 and drank a little too much it's time 27:55 for a diet 28:04 [Music] 28:05 [Applause] 28:13 deciding on a place to live isn't always 28:16 easy although the traditional American 28:19 Dream has typically included buying a 28:22 house with a yard and a white picket 28:24 fence world economies don't always 28:27 consider traditional dreams people need 28:30 to weigh their options when deciding 28:32 whether to rent an apartment or buy a 28:35 house there are many things to consider 28:37 and both options have their pros and 28:40 cons probably the biggest advantage to 28:44 renting is flexibility although you'll 28:46 need to sign a lease agreement this can 28:48 be for a short term sometimes less than 28:51 a year which is handy if you think you 28:54 may be relocating soon remember to read 28:57 the fine print on that contract it will 29:00 probably include rules about keeping 29:02 pets and how much advance notice you 29:05 need to give the landlord before you 29:07 move out you'll need to put down a 29:10 security deposit which is usually 29:12 equivalent to one month's rent 29:15 sometimes utilities are included in the 29:18 rent but you may need to pay those 29:20 separately 29:20 very often the utility companies will 29:23 charge a hookup fee of course you're on 29:26 your own if you want cable TV and 29:29 high-speed Internet connections 29:31 a big consideration for renters is 29:34 parking you are usually out of luck if 29:37 you choose a big apartment building in a 29:39 city however some apartment complexes in 29:43 the suburbs provide parking areas be 29:46 careful this could be a hidden extra the 29:50 biggest advantage to renting is that if 29:52 anything goes wrong you're off the hook 29:54 it's the landlord's responsibility to 29:57 fix it 29:58 buying a house is always a tempting 30:01 choice the upside is that instead of 30:04 paying money to a landlord each month 30:06 you pay off the mortgage and own your 30:09 own home of course the downside is that 30:13 you'll need a big chunk of change for a 30:15 down payment 30:17 you'll need to pay closing costs and 30:20 realtor fees as well as buying 30:22 homeowners insurance is renting starting 30:25 to look better and better to you most 30:27 towns have rules about what you may do 30:30 with your lot for example you'll need to 30:33 get a permit to put up a fence and there 30:35 are rules about how high the fence can 30:37 be and where on the property line it 30:40 must go and let's not forget what 30:43 American founding father Benjamin 30:44 Franklin said in this world nothing is 30:48 certain but death and taxes oh yes 30:52 another good reason to rent no property 30:56 taxes 30:57 although towns provide convenient 31:00 services like trash collection and 31:02 recreation they get the money for these 31:04 services from a homeowner's property 31:06 taxes hey Lea what do you think about 31:12 the apartment you looked at this morning 31:14 oh boy I was pretty disappointed really 31:18 I'm surprised I thought you'd love the 31:21 neighborhood yeah that was the upside 31:24 the neighborhood is away from the city 31:26 so the yard was beautiful but here's the 31:29 downside there wasn't a subway anywhere 31:33 near the place it would take forever to 31:35 get to work could you take a bus it 31:39 wasn't on the bus route that goes to my 31:41 office and besides there weren't any 31:43 appliances the building had a laundry 31:46 room in the basement 31:48 but I really wanted one in the apartment 31:50 and I couldn't believe it didn't even 31:53 have a microwave how would i zap my 31:55 popcorn every night you could always 31:58 rent appliances or even buy them 32:00 secondhand I guess so 32:02 but anyway it had only one bedroom we 32:06 have three kids so that's just not 32:08 enough space there were just too many 32:10 downsides for me to rent that place 32:13 what's that old proverb if at first you 32:16 don't succeed try try again I guess 32:19 you'll just have to keep looking to find 32:21 your dream apartment 32:27 [Music] Inglês (gerada automaticamente)
