Nature and Purpose of Online Platform and Application

 To be able to create a good online presentation, web page and content, you should know the
principle and techniques of design using online creation tool, platform and application to develop
ICT content.

Online Platforms
 Is a specially developed platform using Internet technology. In our daily life today we used
Internet in doing such things and in our learning purposes.

Example of Online Platform

 Facebook - is the biggest and the most popular social platform in the Internet. It is commonly used
by students and is a gaining ground among professionals too.
 INSTAGRAM - is an online mobile media-sharing site that allows users to share pictures and
videos either publicly or privately on the app. Journalist commonly uses this online platform.
 Twitter is an online news and social networking service where users post and interact with
messages, “tweets,”.

Basic Web Design Principle and Elements

 Web Design it is a concept of planning, creating, updating, and maintaining the website. A good
web design allows the user to understand the message, contents, and ideas in most convenient
way.
Principles:
 Portable Design - must be portable and accessible by users who have different browser, operating
system and computer platform.
 Direction/Section - identify the order of importance of the various elements and place them in a
sequence where the eye moves and perceive things.
 Accessible - must be bale easily access the information. Text must be legible/ readable; color must
have harmony and balance.
 White Space - used to show division of contents.
 Regular Testing - website would be regularly updated, upgraded and tested so that the problem
will quickly resolve.
 Simplify - remove distracting option and clutter.

Elements:
 Text - Font family and type must be chosen well, clear and in readable size.
 Graphics - must be good quality and well arrange with text and another element.
 Background - it must be good bring out the content given in website to make it look more
appealing.
 Color - must blend well and complement the elements on page.
WYSIWYG
 is the acronym for What You See Is What You Get. This means that whatever you type,
insert, draw, place, rearrange, and everything you do on a page is what the audience will
see. Like using the HTML, WYSIWYG shows whatever you type on the screen.

Creating Your Own Website using Jimdo


Jimdo is a WYSIWYG web hosting service. It offers free, professional, and business web hosting
services. Jimdo also has an iOS and Android app which you can use to manage your website whenever
you do not have access to a PC.

Creating Your Own Website using Jimdo


1. Create an account on Jimdo by going to www.jimdo.com and clicking Create Your Free
Website.
2. You will be click Sign-up or start now
3. Fill up the form
4. Confirm the jimdo’s message from your email account.
5. Your website will be generated and soon you will end up in the site’s WYSIWYG editor.
6. The editor is pretty easy to use. The center shows the preview of your website. The design
tools are located on the right.

Inserting a Page
1. Hover your mouse pointer over the site navigator. The Edit Navigation button will appear:
2. Click on the Edit Navigation button. Click on Add a New Page.
3. Rearrange pages using the tools on the right of the page title.
4. Click Save when done.

Editing Elements

Hovering over a text, image, or any element you see on the website will highlight the element.
Move element up – used to move the element up by one level
Move element down – used to move the element on level lower
Delete element – used to remove the element
Copy element – used to copy the element
Drag tool – click and drag the element to a valid part of the page
