SUMMARY
This work was thought to approach towards the understanding and comprehension of the social
and cultural statements about HIV/AIDS, emphasizing in those that are related with ill people
and the social branding and discrimination they’re facing.
The investigation took place in Popayan city and it included people affected with HIV who are
confined or not in the different city’s health homes. It included ill’s family and friends, too people
who give their appreciation about the infected people concerns; no medical people (as
secretaries, managers, health entity, etc) responsaibles of their care and attention, were
included too.
I began reading about the illness and I realized that infected people are minor and put away
from the society, isolated, branded and discriminated just for being ill; it happened because of
the wrong information given to people about the virus and its beginning in the world, as the
infection focus began in the gay minority, people that had “unnatural sex”, was that rationale
that allowed society to reject and persecute them.
