SAFETY CHECK-OUT
After correcting the original service problem, perform the following
safety checks before releasing the set to the customer.

1. Check the area of your repair for unsoldered or poorly-soldered UNLEADED SOLDER
connections. Check the entire board surface for solder splashes This unit uses unleaded solder.
and bridges. Boards requiring use of unleaded solder are printed with the lead free
2. Check the interboard wiring to ensure that no wires are “pinched” mark (LF) indicating the solder contains no lead.
or contact high-wattage resistors. (Caution: Some printed circuit boards may not come printed with
3. Look for unauthorized replacement parts, particularly transistors, the lead free mark due to their particular size.)
that were installed during a previous repair. Point them out to the
customer and recommend their replacement.
4. Look for parts which, through functioning, show obvious signs : LEAD FREE MARK
of deterioration. Point them out to the customer and recommend Be careful to the following points to solder or unsolder.
their replacement.
5. Check the B+ voltage to see it is at the values specified. • Set the soldering iron tip temperature to 350 °C approximately.
6. Flexible Circuit Board Repairing If cannot control temperature, solder/unsolder at high temperature
• Set the soldering iron tip temperature to 350 °C approximately. for a short time.
• Do not touch the soldering iron on the same conductor of the Caution: The printed pattern (copper foil) may peel away if the

• Be careful not to apply force on the conductor when soldering Unleaded solder is more viscous (sticky, less prone to
or unsoldering. flow) than ordinary solder so use caution not to let solder
bridges occur such as on IC pins, etc.
• Be sure to control soldering iron tips used for unleaded solder and
those for leaded solder so they are managed separately. Mixing un-
leaded solder and leaded solder will cause detachment phenomenon.

2-2. DISCHARGING OF THE FLASH CAPACITOR

The charging capacitor for the flash has been charged at high voltage.
Therefore, there is a possibility of an electric shock if you directly handle this capacitor.
The high-voltage charge will not be discharged by simply turning off the unit’s power.
Make sure any remaining voltage is discharged by short-circuiting the flash capacitor with a Short Jig.

Preparing the Short Jig

Make a Short Jig by connecting a small clip to each lead of a resistor with a rated value of approximately 1 kΩ /1 W.
In order to prevent an electric shock, wrap insulating tape completely around the resistor and its leads.
Resistor with a rated value of approximately
1 kΩ/1 W (Part No. 1-215-869-11).

2-3. METHOD FOR COPYING OR ERASING THE DATA IN INTERNAL MEMORY

The data can be copied/erased by the operations on the MENU screen. (When erasing the data, execute formatting the internal memory.)

Note 1:When replacing the Main Board Assy, erase the data in internal memory of the board before replacement.
Note 2:When replacing the Main Board Assy, execute formatting and initialize the internal memory after replacement.

Method for Copying the Data in Internal Memory

Copy

Copies all images in the internal memory to a memory card.

1. Insert a memory card with sufficient free capacity into the camera.

2. MENU - (Settings) - (Memory Card Tool) - [Copy] - [OK] -

Note

Make sure there is sufficient battery power. Otherwise, the battery power may run out when you attempt to copy
image files, causing the copy to fail and possibly corrupt the data.
Images cannot be copied individually.
Original images in internal memory are retained even after copying. To delete contents of internal memory, remove
the memory card after copying, then format internal memory ([Format] in [Internal Memory Tool]).
A new folder is created on the memory card and all data will be copied to it. You cannot choose a specific folder
and copy images to it.

Method for Formatting the Internal Memory or Memory Card

Format

Formats the memory card.

When you use a memory card with this camera for the first time, it is recommended to format the card using the
camera for stable performance of the memory card before shooting. Note that formatting permanently erases all data
on the memory card, and is unrecoverable. Save precious data on a computer, etc.

1. MENU - (Settings) - (Memory Card Tool) or (Internal Memory Tool) - [Format] - [OK] -

Note

Note that formatting permanently erases all data including even protected images.
