 Highlight Waterborne Resins
Setalux 6520 AQ-45
An acrylic polyol dispersion with 3.2% OH (calculated on
non-volatiles), designed for glossy and textured coatings,
with very good drying properties in combination with
hydrophobic and hydrophilic poly-isocyanates, especially where
low VOC is required (VOC<200g/L).
Main applications
1 Textured coating with excellent glossy appearance and
adhesion, for use with or without primers. A wide range of
texture, gloss levels and levels of structure can be achieved
by minor changes in either the formulation or the
application parameters.
2 Metal primers with good corrosion and adhesion
properties, salt spray and water immersion test results.
Good recoatability can be achieved after several months
of drying.
What makes this product very special is the controlled flow
after application; a similar formulation based on an acrylic
polyol emulsion such as Setalux 6500 AQ-42 shows too much
flow after application resulting in a reduction of the texture
pattern.
However, Setalux 6520 AQ-45 can also be used to obtain a
wide range of matt to semigloss topcoats; very good water
resistance is obtained with low sheen top coats over
cataphorese primers. Accelerated weathering tests (500 light
hours UVCON and 1000 hours Xenon) show gloss retention in
excess of 90% and 95%, respectively.
Setalux 6761 AQ-44
An aqueous styrene-acrylic dispersion with high water and
humidity resistance for use in a wide variety of coating
applications, such as waterborne anti corrosion primers,
high gloss topcoats and plastic coatings.
Setalux 6762 AQ-44
An aqueous styrene-acrylic dispersion that is more flexible
than Setalux 6761 AQ-44 and designed for primer
formulations. Good results are obtained in the humidity
cabinet for primer-top coat systems.

Setal 6001 AQ-45
An airdrying short oil alkyd emulsion for anti-corrosion and
wood primers where very low VOC is required; with suitable
water reducible metal driers very fast drying properties can
be obtained. Very good adhesion on cold rolled steel and
selected industrial plastics can be achieved. Good salt spray
results without underrust with primer- topcoat systems are also
achieved.
Setal 6003 AQ-40
An airdrying short oil alkyd emulsion that shows very good
drying properties, good elasticity, good yellowing resistance,
very good early water resistance and good outdoor durability
(WOM).
Setal 146 SS-70
A water-thinnable (after neutralization with ammonia) short oil
alkyd resin for use in industrial and dipping primers with good
anti-corrosion properties and very good hydrolytic stability.
It can be used for either stoving application when neutralized
with dimethylethanolamine or for air drying applications when
neutralized with triethylamine or AMP 90 (Lubrizol).
Setalux 6500 AQ-42
An Acrylic polyol emulsion with 4.2% hydroxyl functional
groups for durable, abrasion- and chemical resistant water
borne two-pack PUR paint systems.
Setalux 6500 AQ-42 is now well known resin for two-pack
PUR topcoats. It’s our standard resin and it belongs to the
top of this particular market.
Application area
Direct to metal as well as on pre-treated substrates
For topcoats where a low co-solvent level (VOC<250)
is required
For curing at ambient temperatures as well as elevated
temperatures
Industrial varnishes and pigmented topcoats for interior and
exterior applications to:
– Agricultural and earth moving equipment and machinery
– Structural steel
– Electrical equipment
Setalux 6501 AQ-42
Our new waterborne Acrylic polyol emulsion with 4.2%
hydroxyl functional groups for two-pack PUR paint systems.
This resin is an excellent example of what can be achieved by
applying our slogan ‘Creating the solution together’ and is the
result of a close co-operation with our customers. Setalux
6501 AQ-42 a successor, to 6500 AQ-42, reduces the
tendency to foaming and pinholing significantly.
Application area
Setalux 6501 AQ-42 can easily be hand-mixed with
hydrophilic hardeners, but high-shear mixing is recommended
with hydrophobic hardeners; top quality finishes can then be
achieved. It is recommended for the same application area as
the Setalux 6500 AQ-42.
Major properties
Setalux 6501 AQ-42 and Setalux 6500 AQ-42 are similar in
many respects, such as:
good acceptability of pigments and high shear stable
high gloss and excellent durability
good water and chemical resistance
very good mechanical properties
Formulations based on Setalux 6501 AQ-42 require a catalyst
to achieve an optimal balance between potlife, drying,
hardness development and de-foaming, levelling, appearance;
a broad application window results.
Setalux 8455 AQ-36 and Setalux 8550 AQ-50
An Amine functional acrylic emulsion and an Epoxy functional
acrylic dispersion for easily mixable and fast drying two-pack
isocyanate-free paint systems. The non toxic behavior and low
co-solvent level can give an environmentally friendly product.
Recently the Setalux 8551 AQ-45 and Setalux 8552 AQ-50
have been introduced, both resins are Alkyl Phenol Ethoxylate-
free.
Application area
The waterborne All Acrylic system is very easy to mix (hand
mixing). Curing at ambient as well as elevated temperatures.
For applications where a very low co-solvent level (VOC<150)
is required.

Industrial topcoats over waterborne epoxy primers for:
– Agricultural and earth moving equipment and machinery
– Structural steel
– Transport and lifting gear machinery
Indoor:
Industrial topcoats direct to metal for:
– Low voltage electrical equipment
– Machinery
– steel racks and office furniture
Major properties
Setalux 8455 AQ-36 in combination with one of the epoxy
components are strongly related to our third generation
Solvent Borne AA-System Setalux 8403 and Setalux 8503.
Both components are highly shear stable. The waterborne
