Resonant vibrations in
vertical pumps
Variable speed driven motors for vertical pumps are known to exhibit operating
zones that are subject to excessive vibration. In part one of this paper, Bill Beekman
of Weir Floway Pumps discusses the influence of excessive resonance and how it
can be managed. In part two, he discusses the caution required when starting and
stopping VFDs or Soft Start/Stop Driven vertical turbine pumps.
