Pray According To His Will

1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will,
he heareth us:

It is a wonderful thing to learned from God’s Word that God is not only giving us the assurance of our
salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ (1 John 5:11-13) but also giving us the confidence to go to Him
through prayer. But it doesn’t mean that every prayer we ask to God will be granted. As Christian we
need to know how to pray the scriptural way, in other words, pray according to God’s Will.

1. Pray in Agreement to His Will

Prayer outside the will of God is not a prayer. It is like a plant in a wrong part of soil is
considered weeds. Prayer with unsettled sin is prayer that God doesn’t want to listen. Psalm 66:18 – “If I
regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.” God will not answer a prayer just for our lust.
James 4:3 – “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.”
We need to pray in agreement to His will. God will answer a prayer for legitimate need. Phil.
4:19 – “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Sometimes
we are more fervent in praying for our wants but give little attention to our real need but God promise
to supply our needs not wants. If I know that is my legitimate need, I am confident to ask it to God
because that is His promise. Pray but also do your part, you need to work. 2 Thess. 3:10 – “For even
when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.”
God will not listen to a lazy person. Pray but always acknowledge God through your tithes and offering.
Prov. 3:9-10 – “Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase. So
shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.” The prayer of a
person who honour God every time he/she received something from God. Agree to God’s will and you
will see the wonderful result of your prayers.

2. Pray in Submission to His Will

God will not listen to the prayer of a person who doesn’t want to be corrected (Proverbs 1:22-
29). If God is correcting something in our lives we need to agree at once and submit to His will. Do not
wait for the time that God will not hear even you seek Him early. God will resist a proud person. James
4:6 – “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the
humble.”
The Lord always free in submission to His Father. John 4:34 – “Jesus saith unto them, My meat is
to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.” Luke 22:42 – “… not my will, but thine, be
done.” Prayer should be about submission to God’s Will. It should not be about convincing God do
yours. When we pray we are actually asking God for His direction for our lives.
Prayer is powerful but remember that God works in His timing, not ours, so have patience and
wait for Him.

3. Pray in Fulfillment of His Will.

Prayer is not only to agree to God’s will and submit to His will but also to be willing to fulfill
God’s will in our life. God is blessing you more to serve more for Him. 2 Cor. 9:8 – “And God is able to
make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to
every good work.” We need to realize that if we pray to God, God also will use us to fulfill His will. Or
sometimes we are the answer to others prayers. Hannah pray to God for man child but vowed to God
that she will give her son to the Lord. (1 Samuel 1-2). One of the greatest truth in a powerful prayer is
our willingness to be a part to fulfill God’s purpose.
