What are your insights and feelings about the use of authentic assessment?

There are lots of assessment tools we are using in order to measure students’ ability and attain
their needs. The used of authentic assessment is to engage students in discourse social learning to
involve in real-world problems. As teachers, we wanted our class to be alive and most of all engage all
students in doing the hand’s on and minds on activities. This can only happen when a teacher knows
how to facilitate her class in such a way that she uses several techniques in the form of authentic
assessment when assigning a task. Authentic assessment is one of the best useful tools in assessing the
child performance. It is one way of evaluating your students according to their knowledge, skills and
abilities to do work. Using authentic assessment is very much useful in the classroom because students
perform, construct on their own to produce or do something. Likewise, it also allows students to
perform tasks and find solutions when questions are posted. In other words, they are problem-solvers
and at the same time problem-posers too. It gives them time to explain, justify and defend based on
their real life experiences.

Describe how the teacher used the authentic assessment.

The teacher used authentic assessment to measure and easily identifies her students using
different kinds of test, in order to determine if her objectives for that week are attainable or not. If there
are learners who did not meet the desired objectives, they undergo remediation of the test. So, as we
noticed, the teacher uses traditional kind of test. But we can also use different strategies and
methodologies for the development and progress of the learners.

How did you feel about the teacher's use of authentic assessment?

I feel blessed and contented on how the teacher used authentic assessment because I learned
a lot of things from her. As an interviewer I learned that it should be appropriate to move onto to the
next concept of your teaching strategies in order to identify and easily determine on how the child's
development and progress be measured.

What could be the gains of the students and teachers in using the authentic assessment?

With the use of authentic assessment, students will become effective performers with acquired
knowledge, while teachers will be able to measure the learners’ capacity to do work and enhance her
strategies to be an effective teacher.

What part of the teacher’s practice of the authentic assessment do you feel like improving or revising?

Learning is a continuous process, so we must adopt changes in order to cope with advancement
of assessing student’s performance. So for me, all of those practices are improving, since it is properly
planned and based on the student’s criteria. But also she must apply technology in education as it is
necessary to practice it in school.
My Reflection

Assessment is used to measure a students ability to learn about a topic, right? So, appropriate usage of
assessment methods in the classroom is very important because genuine assessment is a way to
determine if the student learned and didn't just regurgitate the same thing back during test. Teachers
assessment tools are an important part of judging the capabilities, progress and development of
students. It help teachers judge how much a student knows at the beginning of a school year, semester
or subject. It also help track progress and inform the teacher when the subject matter has been
adequately learned by the students. Through assessment tools, you can measure if the child
understands what is your lesson all about. Through this, you can determine if the assessment methods
you used is effective or not. So, if it's not effective, think of an assessment methods that can cater the
needs of your students and can caught their interest.
