ILIAD (Summary) Script

Scene #1: The Violent Quarrel between Achilles and Agamemnon.

Narrator: In the tenth year of the Trojan War, tensions are running high among the Achaians. Aside from
this, there is a quarrel between the commander in chief of the Greek army, Agamemnon, and the
Greek’s greatest and mightiest warrior, Achilles.

Achilles: Please Agamemnon, bring Chrysies back to her father.


Agamemnon: I can’t do that, she is my war prize right?
Achilles: Yes, she’s your prize but you take her in a wrong way.
(Agamemnon thinks for a while.)
Agamemnon: Okay, let’s have a deal. I’ll give her back to his father, but in return, you should give Briseis
to me. Guards! (Agamemnon forced Briseis towards him.)
Achilles: What have you done Agamemnon? I’ve loved her more than anything else…
Briseis: No! I don’t want you. Achilles, help me!

Narrator: The guards arrived immediately and they had beaten Achilles until he lost his consciousness.
And when Achilles woke up, he promised that he’ll not fight anymore. He even prayed to Zeus to help
the Trojans win the war.

Scene #2: Zeus Appeared on Agamemnon’s Dream.

Narrator: One time, Zeus noticed that the Earth is getting overcrowded, especially the Greece. So he
thinks of a solution to solve this problem. And for him, one solution is the best, to have a great war.
Since Zeus enjoys toying with mortals, he decided to visit Agamemnon in a dream.

Zeus: Agamemnon, your army is great. You and your army already won different battles, and I think that
no one can defeat your army. Now, I want you to attack the city of Troy with everything you has, and I
am ensuring your victory even there is no Achilles.

Scene #3: The Attack and Retreat of Trojans.

Narrator: Because of the absence of Achilles in the battlefield, plenty of Greek armies died in different
pitched battles of Trojans and Greeks. And there’s a time that one of the Achaians asked for a help to
Achilles.

Patroclus: Achilles! Achilles! Are you there?


(Achilles quickly go outside on his tent)
Achilles: What’s going on my friend Patroclus?
Patroclus: We need you. Because of your absence in our battles, Prince Hector and other Trojans gained
more courage to fight with us. We are lacking of people to fight with Trojans! And one more, most of the
leaders were forced to leave the battle.
Achilles: I can’t. I am still angry with Agamemnon.
Patroclus: Please. Help us. We are losing our countrymen.
Achilles: I’m sorry, Patroclus.
Patroclus: I understand. But let me lead our armies, and let me also borrow your armor. I have a plan.

Narrator: Achilles gave his permission to Patroclus to lead the Myrmidons. Patroclus’ plan is to imitate
Achilles, this is for the Trojans to know that Achilles is back.
Narrator: Patroclus’ gambit worked. They succeeded in making the Trojans to retreat. However, Prince
Hector of Trojans wants to have a one on one battle between him and Patroclus.

Scene #4: One on one battle between Patroclus and Hector.

Hector: Oh! I am glad that you came here Achilles. I hope that you’ll do your best to defeat me.
(Patroclus didn’t say anything.)

Narrator: Minutes passed, but the two are still fighting for death. But suddenly, Hector got a chance to
kill the fake Achilles.

Hector: Poor Achilles, you’ve become weak after a long absence in a battlefield.
(Hector removes the helmet of Patroclus.)
Hector: What! This is not him! Send this dead body to Achilles!

Narrator: The dead body of Patroclus was arrived in the Achaeans’ Camp. And the death of Patroclus
was found out by his friend, Achilles.

Scene #5: The Return of Achilles.

Narrator: Achilles enraged as he learns the death of his friend, he experienced terrible grief and he
swears revenge. Achilles decided to reconcile with Agamemnon and rejoin the battle. He asks his
mother, Thetis, to get a new suit of armor made especially for him by the fire-god, Hephaestus.

Thetis: Here is your new suit of armor, my dear son. Good luck to your battle. (Hugs Achilles)

Narrator: The Achaean army attacks the Trojans. Achilles try not to pass through the gate of Troy,
instead, he climb the wall of the city. Strengthen by his rage, Achilles ruthlessly kills all the Trojans that
tries to prevent him from entering the city. He keeps doing it until he confronts Hector outside the walls
of Troy.

Hector: Easy, Achilles!

Achilles: No, I will make sure that you’ll pay for all what you’ve done!

Narrator: Hector and Achilles continue to fight with each other. But because of Achilles’ anger, he finally
killed Hector. And after that, he continuously stabs Hector’s dead body.

Narrator: Achilles only stops when he’s already satisfied. He takes a rest for a while and after it, he
stands up and decided to leash the dead body at the back of his chariot. He drags the body of Hector
around the city of Troy to inform the Trojans that he killed their Prince or their Mightiest Warrior. After
the Troy, he drags Hector’s body towards their camp to let them know that they won. After nine days,
Achilles also drags the dead body circles around Patroclus’ funeral bier.

Scene #6: The Funeral Rights of Hector.

Narrator: Achilles attempt to maim the body, but the gods are against on him. They agreed that Hector
deserves to have a proper burial, so they return the body of Hector to his father, King Priam, to have a
funeral rights.
