UNIT 7: MEDIA ENTERPRISE

Learning Aim D
One Kind London

My task for my brief was to create a promotional video on a media product of my

choosing. I’ve chosen to promote a clothing company, One Kind London, and help them
get a form of recognition in the clothing company world. I have utilized enterprise skills
throughout this unit such as, problem solving, showing independent working, teamwork
skills (listening and communicating with the people helping) and time management to
create a fruitful promotional video that I can be proud of.

At the very beginning, in order to plan out what I was going to film, I brainstormed some
ideas through other adverts relating to clothing and seeing how the models would act
during their shots. After gathering information, I had storyboarded what I want my shots
to appear like. In doing so, I had organized myself for when I needed to shoot, to keep
use of free time that I can have in editing. There was not much camera techniques that I
needed to focus on as most of the shots will be mixed with other shots that I had
previously recorded for the company and other secondary footage relating to the
company itself. After this was done, I had to think about who would be modelling for my
scenes, I had casted specifically attractive black models to promote the idea that
black/african can be beautiful too as there is a lot of hate against black people in society
and I’m trying to make an awareness that they are just as equal. As my target audience
is aged ranged from 16 to 21 year olds, I casted people who are 18 years old as they
are just in between the age range to connect with my age demographic.

After booking and acquiring the equipment I needed to shoot my promotional video, I
quickly notified the models to get there as soon as possible. The problem was that only
two out of the five came on that day and therefore I chose to continue what I can do at
the very moment and just film as much as I can. After shooting what I could, I came
back and started placing the footage into my laptop for editing. As this was occurring,
another model had just came in, allowing me to film more footage for my promotional
video. I wanted a shot with this model and another model that wasn’t present, however,
the model had brought other ideas to the table, giving me more options rather than
waiting for the model to appear. Due to the disorganization of the cast, I had only
managed to be able to edit a little. Because I had little time to edit, I would edit the next
day and booked for the same equipment, in case the other models won't be absent.
The next day, before I arrived to continue shooting, I sent myself as much footage
relating to One Kind London’s brand from home to my email which I can access and
download into my folder to add in the edit. I was able to shoot more shots, however, the
same two models couldn’t make it and was unresponsive. Instead, I had just used the
same models as yesterday to wear the other One Kind London clothes. Afterwards, I
was able to fully edit my promotional video to my satisfaction and little to no stress at all.
My plan was to sync the shots and allow it to transition through the beat of “Pumpy” by
Swarmz but I would only do that to most clips as some clips are too good to waste and
require more time.

I believe that I have used all of the enterprise skills in this unit; I have shown problem
solving skills and used my own initiative during the day of shooting due to the obstacles
that I encountered, I’ve worked independently throughout the editing stages of my
promotional video, also I’ve used teamworking skills everyday, considering my casts
ideas and implementing and developing the video in other ways, and I also managed
my time and prioritising other tasks to maintain more time for myself to edit.

My promotional video was successful in terms of the brief as I intentionally created the
video in order to advertise my company, One Kind London, and to show off the items
that are made by the company in order to entice people to go and buy. My promotional
video is successful in promoting the products because it’s short and firm with the ability
to showcase the clothes with the use of celebrity endorsement. Additionally, I have
chopped up the footage and placed them in synchronized to the beat of the music,
making the edit smoother to watch.

After getting teacher feedback for my

promotional video, I was told that overall my
edit is nicely done, however, I was suggested
to display the brand logo, social media
information and the online shopping website.
Because the suggestion was valid as other
company promotional videos contain at least
their logo, I came to the conclusion to make
one at home and drag it at the end of the edit
the next day.
Majority of my feedback from my peers would be praisals rather than constructive
feedback. However, peer feedback from a young aspiring editor allowed me to think
more deeply into the promotional video and believed that some footage is too blurry
compared to some of the higher quality shots that I was able to do. In response to the
situation, some of the footage that I recorded was through my phone and to make it fit
onto the box I needed to zoom in. Finally, he recommended me to continue with editing
more on the clips rather than cutting up clips and syncing it with the beat, this was really
good feedback due to the fact that he is within my age demographic and enjoys the
music video style editing in the montage.

I have taken into consideration that I should continue to make edits within clips to
produce an even better product than the previous promotional video. Furthermore, I’m
aware that some of the shots are blurry/pixelated because of how zoomed in it is,
therefore I believe that I should refilm the shots when I have the chance to.
