On March 10th, 1914, at 11am, Mary Richardson entered
the National Gallery in London and stood in front of the
painting by Velázquez known as Venus at the mirror, maybe
not for the first time. She looked at it for a few minutes
before letting the cleaver she had hidden up her sleeve
slide into her hand. She then slashed the canvas several
times. The first blow broke the protection glass and called
the attention of guards and visitors, the following ones had
to be quick and resulted in seven clean cuts on the paint-
ing area that represents the goddess’s naked back. She
didn’t struggle as the museum guard and the police of-
ficer stopped her and took her to the police station. Fol-
lowing this incident, the Women’s Social and Political Union
– WSPU, the militant association for women’s suffrage of
which she was a member, made public a short text in which
Richardson compares the destruction of the painting to the
incarceration of Emmaline Pankhurst, and states: ‘justice
is an element of beauty as much as color and outline on
canvas’. A very significant statement about her under-
standing of justice, also revealing her idea of beauty, that
serves as the starting point for this installation title.

Mary Richardson’s action was the second of a dozen of

attacks against artworks made by some WSPU members
between April 2nd, 1913 and July 17th, 1914, as part of
their militant strategies. Their political actions were nota-
bly shrewd, something which was already evident in their
tactics in previous years, when they aimed at communica-
tion systems – cutting telegraph lines or throwing acid in
mailboxes – and in their insertions into what Cildo Meire-
les would call ideological circuits, recording the sentence
“votes for women” on coins that were then put back in
circulation.

TÍTULO DUAS MARGENS
“Duas Margens” é um projeto iniciado em 2003,
em colaboração com os artistas Wagner Morales
(Brasil) e Sofia Ponte (Portugal). Seguindo in-
struções sucintas, eles gravaram simultanea-
mente as águas do oceano Atlântico atingindo a
programa Capacete Road, Helmut Batista (Brasil,
naquele momento no Chile) e Eric Holowacs (Nova
Neste segundo
gens opostas do oceano Índico. Runo Lagomarsino

TITLE two SHORES
“Duas Margens” is a project initiated in 2003, in
collaboration with two artists: Wagner Morales
(Brasil) and Sofia Ponte (Portugal). Following
succinct instructions, each artist recorded the
water of the Atlantic Ocean reaching the shore at
a beach of their choice in the country where they
lived; simultaneously. The one-hour long record-
ing was then made at the same time but at differ-
ent hours. In 2005, after having put my feet in the
Pcific Ocean cold water for the first time, I made
a second version (which became a second part) of
this project. I then asked Helmut Batista (Brasil,
at that moment in Chile) and Eric Holowacs (New
Zeland) to do the same, but focusing on this other
Ocean. In this second dipthyc the time difference
is much accentuated, the New Zeland images were
taken during sun set, while the images in the Chil-
ean coast take place in the middle of the night. Af-
ter that, a third part of this world-wide drawing
became necessary, but it was only in 2012 that I
could make a new pair of videos t opposite margins
of the Indian Ocean. Runo Lagomarsino filmed
from Mauritius, in Africa, and David Wells, from
Perth, in Australia.

o centro cultural, primeira agencia do Banco do
a proposição.
novas frases.
fazer ler “Sob sina do Cabral”. Numa maquete do
prédio (em exposição permanente no segundo an-
ordem, escrevem “Nutrindo lucros colaterais”.

“Pontos de vista” was commissioned for AN exhi-

financial institutions (or the cultural and the fi-

memory and desire of both overlap in the building
was the starting point for the proposition.
In two different places of the building, very deli-

TÍTULO Elements of Beauty (ELEMENTOS DE/A

Olhou
cial a detiveram e levaram à delegacia. A seguir,
a Women’s Social and Political Union – WSPU –,

Imagem: detalhe do interior do livro

confiança no valor econômico e simbólico do obje-

This book gathers documents about the actions
performed in museums and galleries by the group
that became known as Suffragettes, to distinguish
itself from other suffragists that used exclusively
legal methods in their voting right campaigns. The
purpose is to propose readings of these militant
maneuvers as a discourse that surpasses their
initial intention. These readings are centered in
the imaginary formed by these actions of image
destruction. This is not about making a diagnosis,
an statistic index or an efficiency rating, but about
providing an overview of the choices at stake: the
selection of each artwork and each venue, the
steps of each act, the statements that sometimes
followed them, the way these actions were archi-
tected, the way they presented themselves and
how they were seen, with their outcomes and re-
percussions.
What image of women and what portrait of power
were at stake in this moment and can be seen mir-
rored in the pieces attacked? What kind of trust in
the economic and the symbolic value of art is be-
hind these tactics and the reactions they provoke?
What type of image results from these acts of im-
age destruction? Could one talk, in each of these
events, about an aesthetic judgment? These are
some of the questions that emerge when confront-
ing the documents gathered here.

TITLE Shangai em São Paulo in Shanghai

Made for the São Paulo pavilion of the Shanghai
Biennale, this drawing replicates the pavement of
a whole street named Shangai in the Brazilian city.
The work plays with the notion of representation
in more than one level. The official representation
of São Paulo gives place to the displaced presence
of an already existing (even if misspelled) repre-
sentation of Shanghai in São Paulo.
The use of frottage, a technique that depends on
the existence of the referent in order to create its
representation, creates a depiction which can’t be
other than documental; it can be even taken as a
prove of the existence of that street. On the other
hand, the abstract characteristic of the resulting
drawing due to the uniform resemblance of ev-
ery pavement (or the lack of attention with which
we usually look at it) makes the work as detached
from its original reference as it has actually been
close to it, surface on surface, on every inch.

Esses
objetos, fotografias, filmes e outra memorabilia

TÍTULO evidences of a farce

“Evidências de uma farsa” is a project initiated
in 2011 and still under development. It intends
to bring together a collection of dipthycs, which
pair elements from two different time frames, both
dealing with an international image(ry) of Brasil.
Each of these dipthycs is composed by one element
that belongs to the last two decades, and another
one belonging to the so-called período desenvolvi-
mentista (developmentist era), which coincides
with the post war decades. These objects, photo-
graphs, films and other memorabilia are the symp-
toms of a geopolitical position and apprehension of
Brasil that can be found inhabiting a daily context
and popular standards of representation.
The project results from a research for a text
written in 2011, which lead me to notice a series
of “visual coincidences” between an image of Bra-
sil that circulated back in the 1950’s and 1960’s
and the one that is being produced or publicized in
the recent years. So far, I have approximated two
magazine covers and two animation movies, apart
from the lack of an image depicting two Brazilian
celebrities somehow connected to the UN. Other
fields under research at the moment include the
World Cup, Miss Universe and the Modern Art mu-
seums versus the Guggenheim.

O trabalho integra um estudo comparativo das
bandeiras nacionais, ainda em desenvolvimento.
Nesta parte do projeto, elementos figurativos rep-

predio do Congresso desapareça, dando lugar a

TITLE the reality of a reflection

A very interesting characteristic of Galeria Igna-
cio Liprandi, in Buenos Aires, is its view towards
the outside: a balcony with a grand frontal view of
the National Concress. La realidad de un reflejo
is a set or mirrors positioned in such a way as
to make the congress disappear behind a differ-
ent landscape created by reflexions. This was the
second time (and not the last) that I used a mirror
game in order to alter the perception of a spe-
cific element. The first one was in 2005, for a work
titled Saudade. In it, a painting hanging on the
Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo’s permanent
collection rooms had its reflexion projected to the
space reserved for contemporary interventions in
the same museum, through a set of 4 mirrors.

Imagem: detalhe

TITLE reclassified
Reclasificados consists of the REORGANIZATION
of ads contained in the yellow pages. Instead of
being based on the area of business each compa-
ny is dedicated to, the new classification focuses
on the use of language and the areas of human
knowledge or affection the used words refer to.
Not only the name of each company, but also the
text with which they announce the character and
quality of their business is taken in consideration.
For the existing version, made with the Buenos
Aires catalogue of products and services, the
adverts are reorganized according to the fol-
lowing themes: biology (minerals, vegetables and
animals); family and familiarity (also includes the
house and the domestic); religiosity (with a spe-
cially long list of business under the names of cath-
olic saints); geography (all references to cardinal
directions and especific continents, oceans, coun-
tries and citys); history (including references to
time and the recurrent heroes of independence);
power (political, economical and physical power or
empowerment); and art (with its derivations and
also references to aesthetics, beauty and style).

As explosões,
narrativa.
contato direto.
A reprodução dessas imagens, retiradas de seus
contextos originais, reforçam a síntese geométri-
tendimento através do discurso e da formalização;
um anseio pela linguagem como uma possibilidade
para a elaboração de conteúdos.

TITLE impossible but necessary
Imposible pero necesario is part of a group of re-
cent works that investigate the unstable balance
between desire and frustration in the represen-
tation process. An equilibrium between eort and
failure that accompanies all attempt of repre-
sentation of an experience, and that can be seen
crystallized (or guessed, latent) in the resulting
forms, however rigid they may appear.
The project was realized in the soviet war memorial
in Treptower park (Berlin, 1949) and it focuses on
the representations of explosions that can be seen
in the reliefs of this memorial. The concrete casted
reliefs narrate the history of the second world war
by means of allegorical scenes depicted from an
ideal point of view. The explosions, moments where
matter loses its form, are introduced as abstrac-
tion points in that narrative. They are, at the same
time, formal studies of imaginative projection and
inquiries, spaces for the void of sense.
Imposible pero necesario: petricación is a group
of 12 lithographs that reproduce all the explosion-
srepresented in these reliefs.
Imposible pero necesario: après-coup is a series
of three frottages made in Berlin, as a way of ap-
propriation of these fragments by direct contact.
The reproduction of these images cut out from
their context reinforces the geometric synthesis
that solidies those formless events in an almost
iconic shape. It also stresses the details that dier-
entiate each of them, due to the arbitrarity allowed
by the object or by the wearing o of time that at-
tributes diverse characteristics to the pieces that
came out of the same cast. The rationalizing eort is
thus focused, a search for understanding through
discourse and formalization; an aim for language
as a possibility for the elaboration of contents.

TÍTULO Alfabeto fonético
Os alfabetos de radiofonia reconhecidos e uti-
lizados internacionalmente surgiram a partir das
duas guerras chamadas mundiais, no século pas-
sado.
alfabeto Able Baker, criado pelas forças armadas

cado: I” codifica o slogan do Canal do Panamá, em
Di-
vidir a terra para unir o mundo.
TITLE phonetic alphabet
The radiophonic alphabets, internationally used
and recognized, originated from the two so-called
world wars, in the last century. These acrophonic
alphabets (in which each word represents its ini-
tial letter) are used to avoid misinterpretations
and keep mistakes probabilities to the very least,
every time the mutual understanding of a combi-
nation of letters seems to be crucial. It is not easy
to FINd words that can be pronounced and de-
codied in diFFerent languages, and the alphabet
known as Able Baker, created by US army in 1941
and then adopted by civil aviation, contained such
an amount of sounds unique to the English lan-
guage that another spelling alphabet, called Ana
Brazil, was used in Latin America.
Currently, the most used of these codes is the in-
ternational radiotelephony spelling alphabet, also
known s the OTAN phonetic alphabet, which, de-
spite its reference to the North Atlantic, is used
by civil aviation companies and radio amateurs
throughout the planet. Even if it departed from the
recognition of a necessity to FInd common sounds
to English, French and Spanish, the OTAN alpha-
bet comprises a considerable number of words
that refer to Anglo-Saxon culture: Alfa Bravo
Charlie Delta Echo Foxtrot Golf Hotel India Ju-
liet Kilo Lima Mike November Oscar Papa Quebec
Romeo Sierra Tango Uniform Victor Whisky Xray
Yankee Zulu. Ironically enough, Romeo and Juliet,
Shakespeare’s characters condemned to a tragic
ending due to miscommunication, are included in
this list.
Alfabeto fonético is a proposition to create a new
spelling alphabet, trying to use words of an inter-
national meaning and spelling, even if their pro-
nunciation is adapted to the phonetics of each
dierent language and the customary sounds of
each country. Some of the selected words, deriv-
ing from Latin or Greek, were initially scientic or
mythological concepts and ended up being used in
daily basis (such as Atlas or Flora); some others
are so specic to a certain culture or geography
that tend to be used every time a reference to
their connotation is needed or desired (such as
Harem or Ninja); and some seem to have become
transnational due to the need of them being rec-
ognized by foreigners everywhere (such as Camp-
ing or Taxi).

AUTO-PILOT
a otra enfermera, igualmente cuidadosa y experi-

no chafariz.

alimenta a bomba carneiro. A bomba monjolo e a

Nesse sentido, a
inseridos.
Os desenhos transparentes e impermanentes for-

A realização

Nesse
As publicações

ambivalência entre o documento e a obra de arte;
TÍTULO TRANSLATED CATALOGUE AND/Y CATÁLOGO
TRADUCIDO
The two small books published for the CIFO Fund-
ing Program 2006, are the continuation of a proj-
ect that began with the publication of Catálogo
(catalogue) (Rio de Janeiro: Capacete Entreteni-
mentos, 2003). For both the initial book and these
new ones, a selection of my earlier projects served
as a starting point for original, unpublished texts
by a number of different authors. The texts refer
tangentially to matters contained in the seven art-
works represented, discussing subjects or fields
of knowledge that shed light on the works in a va-
riety of ways and on several levels.

The new books update the earlier publication. They

add a new work to the original list and feature
previously unpublished texts on other subjects
written by new contributors. The texts are pub-
lished in the language they were written in: Span-
ish for one edition and English for the other. Mak-
ing both catalogues as part of the CIFO Funding
Program is based on the premise that a foundation
for Latin American art located in the United States
is a bilingual territory, a place where translation
and cultural translocation are the mainstay of its
work process and strategy.

Translation is one of the subjects that interest me,

especially in terms of the research I have devot-
ed to language, discourse, and ways in which the
words we know structure our thoughts and acts.
In this sense, translation is seen as an opportu-
nity to create new meanings, new ways of relating
to the same object. The publications encounter, in
each new language, a space where previous works
are reactivated to create new content.

The publications themselves are the subject of

three articles about the pleasures of reading (in
Portuguese), the act of writing (in English) and
the time required or imposed by books (in Span-
ish). They inhabit, therefore, an ambivalent place
halfway between document and work of art; they
are catalogues of previous projects, but at the
same time independent artworks. The books, dis-
tributed free of charge during the exhibition, may
be activated at the time and place chosen to read
them, revealing a variety of themes, points of view,
trains of thought and uses of language.

This catalogue presents only one image and the
correspondent captions for each of the projects
it includes. These are followed by a text referring
to a theme or subject to which each specific proj-
ect relates. The texts have all been commissioned
to professionals of different areas of knowledge
and show these diverse points of view and uses of
language. One could say, even if this would always
imply on a reduction, that the text accompanying
Catálogo itself is about reading; the one referring
to Restauro about beauty; the one on Panorama,
about patrimony; that which comes with Assentos,
about accentuation; the one on Fortuna, about
probability and chance; that on Calendário, about
archaeological dating and the last one, on Museu
das Vistas, about landscape and representation.

posição Até onde a vista alcança (Galeria Vermel-

As arqueólogas
Liesbet Sablon e Sofie Geelen fizeram um le-
vantamento dos elementos encontrados em duas
residências abandonadas numa mesma rua da ci-
dade. As casas, compradas pela prefeitura para
serem demolidas possibilitando o alargamento da
via, permaneceram fechadas por cerca de dois
anos, mantendo todos os objetos deixados pelos
antigos moradores.
A aproximação
espaço e no tempo. Mas também aponta para as
peculiaridades das escolhas particulares.
TITLE ON EQUALITY AND DIFFERENCES II: THE
HOUSE NEXT DOOR
IN COLLABORATION WITH LIESBET SABLON
AND SOFIE GEELEN
This project belongs to a wider group of works
that I have been developing during the last couple
of years, generally titled Bifurcações e encruzilha-
das [forking paths and crossroads]. The many dif-
ferent works that compose this research are dedi-
cated to the collection and investigation of things
that are at first sight different but somehow obey
to the same principle, and, on the other hand, to
things that are supposed or expected to be identi-
cal and end up being slightly different.

Previous works like Jogo de memória [memory

game] (2004) or Museu das vistas [views mu-
seum] (2002-ongoing), for example, and even the
whole structure of the exhibition Até onde a vista
alcança [as fas as the eye can see] (2004) –based
on the Baroque idea of approximate symmetry– al-
ready showed this focus of interest.

lado [about equality and differences II: the house
aside] is a work developed for the exhibition Cité-
Action, which took place in Assenede, Belgium, in
august, 2006. The project was made in collabora-
tion with the archeologists Liesbet Sablon and So-
fie Geelen. It consists on an archeological inves-
tigation of the artifacts found in two abandoned
houses located in a same street. The houses,
bought by the city to be demolished, had remained
closed for a couple of years, keeping the objects
their last inhabitants had left behind untouched.
Besides documenting all the groups of objects
found, the excavations were focused on the identi-
fication of similar artefacts found in both contexts.

Following archaeological criteria, the objects

similarity is usually based on their function. In
certain cases though, this proximity is based on
elements represented or depicted on objects that
serve different human needs or tasks. Side by
side, these artefacts establish an indicial universe
of the needs, habits and tastes of these individuals
or family groups who once lived in those houses,
close in space and time. But this approximation
also points at the peculiarities of personal choic-
es, which are also part of history.

TITLE OPTICAL COURSE

This project was developed for the Octógono, a
program dedicated to contemporary art, at the Pi-
nacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, the oldest mu-
seum in town with an important collection of 19th
century paintings. The intervention made use of
the architecture of this space, taking advantage
on the openings surrounding the central square
with a double high glass ceiling where the pro-
gram takes place. By means of a mirror game, the
reflex of a painting belonging to the permanent
collection housed on the second floor was trans-
ferred to the Octógono space.

The painting, Saudade (1889), by Almeida Júnior,

shows a woman standing by the window looking
at a photograph from which we can only see the
back. The title Saudade [something like nostalgia]
refers to a distance that cannot be transposed by
the image. The work also comments on the vari-
ous layers that separate the viewer from the ac-
tive art object once it is inscribed into the logic of
the museum.

número e linhas paralelas desenhados a lápis; e
trecho do texto.

falta.
TITLE ABSTRACTION AND REFERENCE
Abstraction and reference is a series of double
drawings made to be incomplete. The drawings
are made out of literature books and need to meet
with these external objects in order to reveal
their meanings. Each diptych are composed by
two A4 sheets: a transparent one with a number
and some parallel lines traced on pencil; and an
opaque one with the bibliographic reference of the
publication that completes the drawing printed on
inkjet. Once you find the edition that was used for
each pair of drawings, the transparent paper fits
into the page (using the number as a guide) and
the parallel lines underline a fragment of the text.
These fragments are always about what is left un-
said, what is forgotten or left aside, what is lost or
missed, loss, forgetting, lack, the fragment itself,
incompleteness.

There is an empty space, which is also part of

these drawings, that of dislocation, search, the
necessary effort to find the missing piece. Without
the book, each pencil drawing is an abstraction,
a composition of parallel lines on the white pa-
per. Only the “viewer’s” action can transform the
characteristics of the drawing, giving it another
function.

cisamente deslocada, interrompida continuamente

senhos a partir do discurso.

feito dessas duas possibilidades, Cada desenho é
pias formam a coleção do MDV.

TITLE views museum

This project, idealized in 2002 and initiated in
2004, consists on a mechanism for constituting a
collection of drawings of views mediated by dis-
course. These drawings are made by police art-
ists, according to descriptions of views provided
by any person willing to take part on the Project.
Each of these drawings in made on auto-copying
paper, the original graphite drawings are given to
describers while the MdV collects the copies.

The idea is that the resulting archive testifies the

ways in which landscape becomes a mental image
and how this mental image can become discourse
and be translated to drawing. By means of the dia-
logue established during this process and of what
is possible to communicate in this way, these im-

TITLE seats
Assentos (seats) is a project developed in col-
laboration with the architect Keila Costa, who is
responsible for the design of a foldable, modu-
lar, somehow neutral seat. These characteristics
were selected in order to attend to the needs of
institutions that house temporary shows.

The title, which in Portuguese sounds exactly like

acentos (meaning accent, emphasis), also refers
to the idea of locating the prototypes in front of
pieces that need or deserve to be seen for a long
time.

TÍTULO ESTAMPA
Essa peça foi desenvolvida para uma mostra
chamada Feira, realizada no Espaço Virgílio,
A idéia central

TITLE PRINT/ PATTERN

This piece was developed for an exhibition called
Feira [fair], which took place at a commercial gal-
lery in São Paulo, around last Christmas. The main
idea of the show was to present pret-a-porter
artworks that could be bought and taken away by
the visitors. It consists of a 20 meters long piece
of cloth onto which a series of three similar im-
ages of one single mountain were printed close to
each other. The autonomous landscape pictures
and the way they relate to each other as a con-
tinuous image place the work half way between
prints and pattern.

The cloth was sold at R$ 100.00 per meters. The

size of each picture (40 x 60 cm) obliges people to
choose between buying it either for the measuring
or for the image. The repetition of these pictures
does not obey to any regular order, making it im-
possible to buy a complete sequence.

O trabal-
ho consiste numa viagem a Mar del Plata, Argen-
tina, onde se localiza o cassino central do país. O

pulha do outro, além do desenho do espaço reser-

TITLE FORTUNE: MEMORY, postcard, record
This project was developed for an exhibition at the
Museu de Arte da Pampulha, in Belo Horizonte,
installed on a modernist building by Niemeyer,
originally built to house a casino. The work con-
sists on a trip to Mar del Plata, Argentina, where
the country’s central casino is located. The Casino
central, built in 1942, the same year of the Pam-
pulha casino construction, is still active.

All the records from this trip, including family pic-

tures (I was born in Argentina and most of my
family still lives there), air tickets, casino tickets,
landscape photographs etc, was arranged as time
map on the one wall at the mezzanine where the
exhibition took place. This time map ordered all the
material chronologically, but also divided them in
several lines, according to their nature (personal
references, conceptual discussion with the cura-
tors, actual action and dislocation, field research
material, interesting visual results etc).

The only object produced was a black and white

post-card which showed a picture of the casino
interior on the one side and a view of the mezza-
nine on the other side. Twelve hundred post-cards
were produced to be taken away by the visitors.
Both faces have lines and the space reserved for
the stamp, leaving it to the user whereas they
choose to keep the mezzanine or the casino as an
image.

In 1996 the Museu da Pampulha opened a small

Memory Room at one corner of the mezzanine,
where once was the casino cashier. This room was
later closed to the public and transformed into a
deposit. This project also re-installed the Sala da
Memória, with all the souvenirs from the casino
it used to present. A clandestine sound record-
ing from the casino in Mar del Plata brought some
of the atmosphere of action and suspense to the
frozen objects kept as memory in Belo Horizonte.

TITLE BIBLIOGRAPHY
This project was developed for a group show of
young Brazilian artists at the Centro Wilfredo Lam,
in Cuba, and it intend to send abroad some of the
historical and theoretical bases for the production
that will there be seen.

The books will be donated to the institution library

and will be available for consultance during and
after the show. At the exhibition space, a regular
label will indicate the existence of the piece and
its location. Each book contains a stamp with all
data of this project, which identifies the volumes
as part of this work. Another stamp indicates the
name of the donator (in the cases in which it was
not me who donated the title).

Being a work in progress, this small centre for

Brazilian art studies abroad, in La Habana, will
be enlarged and deepened with future donations,
whenever I can find more interesting volumes or
whenever new publications are released.

Arte Brasileira 2001 e originalmente apresenta-
do no MAM-SP, situado em frente à antiga sede
do Museu de Aeronáutica. O projeto pretende
apresentar alguns indícios das relações entre a
coleção retirada dessa sede e abandonada (que
parcialmente recupera) e os interesses políticos
que permearam a remoção do museu do Parque
Ibirapuera.

Pavilhão Lúcio Nogueira Garcez, última sede do

momento) publicado no livro.

do Parque Ibirapuera.
cartada no livro.

5. sete entrevistas com profissionais envolvidos no

desenvolvimento do projeto e especialmente na
não publicação do artigo citado, discutindo as
questões institucionais e pessoais que não per-
mitiram a sua reprodução.
TITLE PANORAMA
This project, developed for the Panorama da Arte
Brasileira 2001 exhibition, consists of:

1. Two copies from each of the ten photographs,

enlarged from selected glass negatives belonging
to the Museu de Aeronáutica da Fundação San-
tos Dumont, São Paulo (a copy of each picture has
been donated to this institution).

2. A window opened at the Museu de Arte Moder-

na de São Paulo panels, through which the visitors
could see the Pavilhão Lúcio Nogueira Garcez,
where the Museu de Aeronáutica has been located
until recently.

3. A photographic study taken at the place to

which the Museu de Aeronáutica collection has
been temporarily removed and finally left, showing
the conditions of its maintenance.

4. A facsimile of a local newspaper cultural sec-

tion cover, with an article revealing political strat-
egies that surrounded the removal of the Museu
de Aeronáutica from the Parque Ibirapuera. The
publication of this article was not allowed by the
Museu de Arte Moderna, because some of the in-
stitutions directors’ statements in it. A blank page
with the newspaper name and date was included
instead.

5. Seven interviews with the professionals involved

in the development of the project and especially in
the publication of the referred article, discussing
the institutional and personal issues that did not
allow its reproduction.

Complex local political issues lead to this reloca-

tion of the Museu de Aeronáutica. This project
intends to create some indexes of the relation
between the abandoned collection it partially re-
covers and those political interests. This specific
case becomes an example from which it is possible
to think of the political structure behind decisions
taken in the field of culture and patrimony.

ção no papel.

During the installation period of “Total Motiviert”

helpers beside me – involved in the process.

All other pieces in the exhibition are placed on

this surface. Those which where installed before
the frottage reached their location have their
area left white, with no intervention on the paper.
Those which where placed after the drawing was
finished had their outline marked in ink. This 1:1
exhibition plan is completed during the exhibition
period, by recording visitors’ steps and common
paths on the graphite surface.
