CONTENT STANDARD
The learner demonstrates understanding of how Anglo-American literature and other text types serve as means of
enhancing the self; also how to use processing, assessing, summarizing information, word derivation and formation
strategies, appropriate word order, punctuation marks and interjections to enable him/her to participate actively in
a speech choir.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner actively participates in a speech choir through using effective verbal and non-verbal strategies based on
the following criteria: Focus, Voice, Delivery, Facial Expressions, Body Movements/ Gestures and Audience Contact.
I.OBJECTIVES

A. Identify examples of synecdoche and metonymy. (Modified-EN9WC-Ii-3.6)

C. Demonstrate participation and understanding of the lesson in collaborative and engaging

SYNECDOCHE VS. METONYMY

e) Strategies: Ball Toss Game, Sentence Strip Game, Pictoword, Fill-in-the-Blank Stories

III. PROCEDURE

A. GREETINGS/PRAYER
B. REVIEW/ORIENTATION
The teacher groups the students and asks them to go to their respective groups and
form a circle. They are given an envelope filled with material needed for the class
activities.
 The teacher recapitulates the previous lesson through BALL TOSS GAME.
 The teacher lets the students read the lesson objectives.

C. MOTIVATION
 The teacher asks each group to get the material needed for the activity.
(PICTOWORD)
Directions:
 Each group will be given two sentences to complete.
 Fill in the sentence with a word using the given picture as the hint.
 As soon as you are done, post your answers on the board.
 The first group to finish will get 3 points as the highest.
 Each group will get additional points if the answers are correct.

D. DISCUSSION
 Through a PowerPoint presentation, the teacher introduces the lesson and
discusses essential topics in connection with the lesson.
 After the presentation of the lesson, the teacher goes back to the sentences the
students posted on the board and asks them to classify as to synecdoche or
metonymy.

E. GUIDED ACTIVITY (Sentence Strip Game)


Directions:
 Each group is given a set of strips of sentences and 2 cards.
 Each group must classify the sentences as to which figure of speech indicated in the card.
 Place the sentence strips on the board below the appropriate card.
 The team that matches all of the sentences to the correct cards in the shortest time wins.
F. APPLICATION (Fill-In-the-Blank Stories)
 The teacher presents a rubric for the differentiated activity and asks each group to get its
task inside the envelope.
Directions:
 Each group is provided with a story with blanks.
 Fill in the spaces with the indicated figure of speech.
 You are given 5 minutes to complete the story.
 Report your story and discuss your choices creatively.
GROUP 1 – TV Report
GROUP 2 – Singing
GROUP 3 – Speech Choir
GROUP 4 – Jazz Chant

 Each group shall be given 5 minutes to prepare and 3 minutes to present.


 With the use of the rubric, the grade of each group is revealed once the
activity is done.

G. GENERALIZATION
 The teacher asks the students to differentiate synecdoche and metonymy
 The objectives of the lesson are revisited and checked whether they are all carried out.
