FLCS commemorates Saints
culminates Rosary Month
Fr. Luigi Caburlotto School
communed with the world in
celebrating All Saints Day to
commemorate their holiness
and instill to the students the
martyrdom of all the saints
and not the fun mimicry and
campaign endorsed by media
on ghosts and zombies.
The program held last October
31, highlighted the “Parade of
Saints” where students wore the
costumes of their chosen saints.
Aside from wearing the costume,
students had also the creative
introduction. In the said activity,

‘Panuluyan’ inspires FLCians
Students of Fr. Luigi
Caburlotto School got inspired
with the ‘Panuluyan’ which
aimed to instill to the students
the real essence of Christmas.
The 30-minute show at the
Madre Vendramin Gymnasium
highlighted the birth of Jesus
Christ in Bethlehem. According
to Mrs. Maibelle V. Miranda, it
is important for the students
to watch such show like this
in order for them to know
the history of Christmas and
celebrate it with simplicity and
love.
The cast and production of
the show created a twist in the
story. They reenacted scenes
from Typhoon Yolanda and the
Papal visit of Pope Francis on
January 2015.

during the awards night at the
GSIS Theater, October 29.
The publication is one along
with the 6 finalists for the Best
Student Organ, Grade School
Category from the 17 entries all
over the Philippines, The Central
Point (Carmona Elementary
School), Hasik at Luntian Panulat
(La Salle Greenhills), Liitle Blue
Stockings (St. Scholastica Manila)
and Paulinian Gazette (St. Paul
University Paranaque).

Bishop Evangelista presides Parents attend annual recollection

His Excellency Bishop
Reynaldo Evangelista of the
Diocese of Imus presided the
Holy Spirit Mass at the Madre
Vendramin Gymnasium, June
9 to prepare the members of
the educating community of Fr.
Luigi Caburlotto School for the
academic year 2014-2015.
Attended by almost 1000
students, teachers, sisters and
parents, the mass focused on the
importance of the Holy Spirit in
the salvation of humankind.
In his homily, Bishop
Evangelista reiterated that
everyone must accept the Holy
Spirit in our hearts. “The Holy

the annual Parent’s Recollection
at the Madre Vendramin
Gymnasium, November 15.
Fr. Jerome A. Marquez, svd
was the resource speaker of the
said recollection. In his talk, he
emphasized that forgiveness must
reign in everyone’s heart, so that
a peaceful community will be
attained.
“It is our extreme duty as
Christians to forgive those who
have done something wrong
against us, remember that Christ
redeem us from our sins” Fr. Jerome
added.
He also mentioned that parents
must always set an example to their
children since children are looking
at their parents as their model of
virtues and actions.
The recollection highlighted the
lighting of candles of forgiveness.
Parents were asked to light candles
and pass it to one another and offer
a prayer of forgiveness.
After the recollection, a
confession was also conducted.

National Capital Region
(NCR) will be the host of the
2015 National Schools Press
Conference (NSPC) particularly
in the Division of Taguig, April
11-15.
The theme for the national
conference is “Empowering
Resilient Communities through
Campus Journalism”.
It aims to promote
understanding among campus
journalists the value to being
resilient and strong despite the
calamities which brought disaster
to the country.
The four-day conference will
highlight different contests which
include news writing, editorial
writing, feature writing, science
and health writing, sports writing,
copyreading, photojournalism,
cartooning, radio broadcasting
and collaborative publishing.

The papal visit of Pope Francis

is a great avenue for the Filipinos
to be resilient after the calamities
that hit the country a year ago.
Our country had been through
a lot of hardships. The siege in
Zamboanga, the 7.2 earthquake in
Visayas and Typhoon Yolanda are
the three tragedies that put our
country in devastation.
These are the times that
the faith of our countrymen
were tested. Most of them
became hopeless because of the
experiences they encountered.
The lost of their loved ones and
the lost of their means of living.
Good thing that there are a lot of
individuals here and abroad who
helped them out to bring back the
hope in them.
The coming of Pope Francis will
give more hope and inspiration
to our beloved brothers and

Teaching to Reach Out Understanding the Hateful

Grade 5 students initiated the
first move in collaboration with
the Sisters to join the pastoral
Sunday activity through Feeding
Program as part of their Religion
classes’ life-long process and
exposure to the poorest in the
society.
This could be a learning
experience for them on how to
cater in reaching out to our less
fortunate brothers and sisters
as our concrete response in
joining the 2015 World Meeting
of Families with the theme: “Love
is our Mission: The Family Fully
Alive.”
Students and parents who will
be assigned for the week are being
met, instructed and oriented on
what to do and to prepare, as to
what food to offer and games to
be animated by the students, and
topic to discuss for catechesis.
They were given a simple
background of those children
whom they will be meeting as to
what kind of family they came
from, because, mostly, they are
from the squatter’s area in the
nearing barrio of Bucal & Malabag,
the children of the tenants from
Barangay Talon and Buho.
There are more than 50
children being fed welcomed.
Enjoyment, friendship and
most of all, God’s love is being
expressed in so many ways.
Parents were so participative
and they even initiated the giving
of groceries, school supplies and
others as their give away.
But through this Outreach
Activity, they could not say “no”
but to follow to the given schedule
for their child’s academic reason.
They realized that it is
more than the grade but of the
experience that they will carry
until the end of their life.
They also realized that
appreciating the gift of life, and
the blessings they received every
day is very essential
And most of all to continually
pray and offer sacrifices for those
children who are suffering in so
many ways in the society and
in the whole world is a must for
every member of the community.
In or out of the school, we
have all been victims of one of
the greatest ills that plague the
society, bullying.
We believe that the reason
why some children are bullies
is because they feel insecure.
They may have problems with
the family, lack of attention and
friends, low academic grades or
maybe uneasiness on physical
appearances.
This is why bullies neglect,
overrule or intimidate mentally
and physically. They want to be
the superiors that it would make
up for their lack of self-esteem.
But the only reason why
bullies are like these is because
they are hurt and feel like these
is because they are hurt and feel
like something is missing in their
lives – friendship and filial love
with their parents.
They channel all their
frustrations in hurting other
people. For once, they want to
feel like they have solved their
feeling of disturbance, bullying.
But, as a matter of fact, they
cannot solve their feeling of
inadequacy through bullying; it
will only make things worse for
them – fake friends, hatred from
teachers and disappointments
from parents.
Let this remorseful story
get into us. Instead of showing
bullies our hatred, let us be
sincere to them; let us show them
that the world is not about power,
but about love and friendship.
Let us not only show kindness
and understanding to the bullies
but also to everyone, abandoned
or lonely; rich or poor so that
we could also put a stop to the
endless cycle of bullying.
We have to remember that
young as we are, we are all equal
in the eyes of God. There is no rich
nor poor, powerful or oppressed.
After all, it is not the power that
will dictate who we are, but our
own character.
Hopefully, with our most
genuinely loving hearts, we could
love everyone disregarding their
physical appearance or status is
life, just as we want to be loved.

Substance of Performance Tasks
The implementation of
Kto12 and Understanding by
Design in our school has brought
meaningful and substantial
change to the learning of the
students.
Performance task is an
assessment tool by which students
are provided with rubrics or
standards based on the situation
which are be given by the subject
teacher. They will be portraying
based on the goals assigned to
them. They have perform based
from the knowledge and concepts
they have acquired in a particular
subject.
The performance task
conducted by Grade 3 students in
Mathematics is a great exposure
and learning experience for them.
They went to a supermarket and
bought products amounting to
Php 200.
Another authentic
performance task was the task of
Grade 6 students in their English
subject. The students created
a mini-documentary programs
which features barangay projects
that promote proper care to the
environment. In this task, students
visited barangays in Amadeo,
Silang, Dasmarinas and Tagaytay
and interviewed the officials
about their environmental
projects.
It is a fact that not everything is
learned in the classroom. Through
performance tasks, students can
explore the real world. It is also
a way of preparing the students
for their productive living in the
future.

the deprived, the unloved, and the needy. Let us continue to

Honesty for the win
Two years ago, the Department
of Education (DepEd) mandated
all private and public schools to
post the saying “Honesty is the
best policy” in accordance to House
Resolution 2757. The saying must be
on the front wall of every classroom.
This aims to promote the virtue
of honesty.It is good to know that
before it was actually implemented,
students of Fr. Luigi Caburlotto
School have been showing acts
of honesty in and outside of their
respective classrooms.
One of the concrete examples of
this is the honesty of the students
during exams. When the teachers
asked the students to double check
and recount their scores, students
whose test paper have correction
immediately approach the teacher
to tell that a particular item was
wrong.
They always take the initiative
of informing the teacher in a
particular subject about the errors
in counting the correct items in
their examination paper.
Letters to the Editor
Aside from this, whenever
students find an amount of money
whether coins or bills, they
immediately give to the teachers
or sisters who are in the area.
If students also find things like
ballpen, pencil and other school
supplies, they immediately place
these in the lost and found area in
every classroom, or at the lobby of
the school.
Such practices of our students
show full honesty.
The virtue of honesty must
always rein in us even if no one
is observing us. As students of
a Catholic School where values
formation is strongly reinforced, it
is our responsibility to always tell
the truth, and do the right thing.
Young as we are, we shall always
remember that practicing honesty
will lead us to success.
Being honest, even in difficult
times, gives everyone the true
and correct information from
which intelligent decisions can be
considered.

I am not a writer of our publication, it feels so proud to see our
publication flashed on the TV Screen during the delayed telecast of

Absolute Accountability
Nowadays, it is safe to
conclude that most people
from all walks of life do have
their accounts in various social
networking sites and majority
of us can manipulate this
undeniably powerful tool in the
21st century called “internet.”
However, the use of internet
and social networking sites
like facebook and twitter
brought massive dilemma to
the users, cyber bullying has
become rampant leading to the
destruction of the character and
morality of the users.
In 2012, the Philippine
Congress passed the Cyber
Prevention Act of 2012. It
aimed to promote responsible
use of social networking sites
and to protect the users against
malicious and destructive
comments on walls. But despite
of this act, it has been a fact that
two years after the cybercrime
act, nothing changed regarding
the way people use the net
irresponsibly.
There are still countless
cases of cyberbullying, cases of
cybersex deck are also recorded
and hackers can still penetrate
even the government sites.
We all know that most internet
users have been releasing their
emotions and opinions in their
respective status, shout outs or
blogs. On the other hand, we can
also say that the happy days of
“cyber bullies” must end.
It is safe to conclude the use
of internet has brought humans
into its turning point. At the
end of the day, the bottom line
for all these issues is a greater
call for a conscientious usage of
information and communications
technology.
Yes it is true that freedom of
speech must be protected, but
let us also remember that it is
not absolute and that it must be
equated with accountability.

Mother Nature is now
striking back. Humans are now
experiencing the revenge of
nature for the undesirable traits
they practice.
Filipinos know that 2014 is one
of the most tragic and the most
devastating years, we experienced
two deadly typhoons: Glenda and
Ruby.
The two mentioned typhoons
made the country to its downfall
especially those in Southern
Luzon and Visayas. Why did it
happen and who’s to blame?
People and their activities
are the primary reasons behind
these calamities. As the effects,
thousands of families were left
homeless and the means of living
were washed away. These are the
effects of negligence. This is our
fault.
We must not take for granted
what God has given us. The gift
of nature is equipped with the
abundant resources and we must
use them properly.
Climate change calls for our
responsibility and accountability
in the proper use of our resources.
We have to think that our world is
constantly changing; it calls for the
transformation of our undesirable
traits to the desirable ones.
Picking of candy wrappers
along the corridor is of great
help in the proper disposal of
waste. The use of paper bags will
also lessen the use of plastics.
Remember that according to
studies, it takes hundred of years
before they get burnt. Consuming
food and saving water will
definitely show our solidarity for
those who lack of those.
The minimal use of computer
and other electronic gadgets and
social media will lessen electric
consumption.
Everyone of us has a duty
to perform. Our single step can
make difference to restore the
beauty of our environment. The
fight against climate change is
still a long way to go, but as long
as everyone will be aware of the
accountability and responsibility
in dealing with nature, the fight
will be a closer one.

is very aware with the role of
speaking English inside the
campus, not just because it is
the universal language but it is
the policy of the school, being
an English-speaking institution.
For this reason, the English
Speaking Campaign was initiated
by the English Area in 2009. Its
goal was to strictly implement
the use of English as medium of
communication in the school.
During those days, with or
without chips, everyone was
encouraged to use English. Even
in the canteen, CR, corridor, lobby
or at the playground, teachers
and students were trying their
best to use the language in their
utterances. And to add on this, the
school has been known for this
practice. Some parents transferred
their children here because of the
language practice.
But after five years, the
campaign seems to be a little
reinforced. As it has been
observed, majority of the students
have forgotten this rule. Only few
from the hundreds of students we
have are using English in all their
conversations in the school.
Even in English class, there
are students who use Filipino in
answering questions raised by the
teacher. It is disappointing to know
that the level of English language

to poor scores of students in
grammar topics. It also results to
poor construction of sentences in
oral communication.
I think is the time for the school
to implement the English Speaking
Campaign again. It will be of great
help for all the students to at least
familiarize the rules of grammar
in their daily conversations.
This problem is not just the
concern of English Teachers alone,
since all of us are communicators
regardless of the language used.
Everyone must work hand in
hand to attain language fluency.
Speaking English doesn’t mean
forgetting our very own language,
it is coping up with the trend. If we
want to become competent as far as
the communication is concerned,
the use of English language must
be taken into consideration.

importation of coffee, the
town of Amadeo was already
engaged in coffee farming. This
is the town’s prominent product.
However, when an organism
known as “coffee rust” infested the
plantation, the coffee fields were
ruined. To counteract this, the
government sent experts abroad
to look for coffee varieties resistant
to coffee rust and they found
Robusta. Robusta Coffee Beans are
usually used to make instant coffee
because it is less expensive. Yearly,
the coffee farmers in Amadeo
continued planting Robusta and
after 10 years, 900 hectares were
already covered with coffee which
kept on expanding. They began
selling at commercial scale. But
this did not last. When the Pacific
War broke coffee transport became
difficult. In time, the coffee trees
were turned to rice for the farmers
to make ends meet. But when the
war ended, coffee was in demand
again. The Amadeo farmers took
that opportunity and revived their
coffee plantations. This led for
Amadeo to become a major coffee
producer supplying not only Manila
flourishing coffee industry of the town paved
the way for the rebirth of the Pahimis tradition.
Pahimis festival is now an annual celebration in
the month of February that put it in the
array of Philippines’ annual festivities
and gave Amadeo the title “Coffee
Capital of the Philippines”. Pahimis
seeks to further enhance the town’s
coffee business and to attract
investors in agri-business and
eco-tourism. Most of all, it hopes
to revive a noteworthy tradition of
gratefulness for those who do good
for themselves and their fellowmen. So
when you attend this merry-making, you

What is nice about this place is that it has been
converted to a resort but it was done in consideration
with the natural state of the waterfalls. Since it has
been converted, stone pathways were laid out thus

ishops, popes and priest are good followers of the Lord. With them,
our Christian communities are given large in number. Also, we are
given strength to have strong faith to God. They are such good,
kind, and understanding leaders who lead our swirling roads to a straight
and peaceful path accompanied with different good virtues. In looking
at today’s generation, young children are dreaming to be a professional
pilot, engineer, doctor, and professor who ride in elegant cars and gigantic
airplanes. A different person is what I met in this generation. An
intelligent kid whose name is Raizel Alexis
Arevalo discovers that his life will be
dedicated to God.
Raizel started dreaming to become a
priest when he was in Grade 3. Praying
and fostering Christian values has always
been his routine. To serve the Lord
with joy, he is an active member of altar
servers during Eucharistic celebration in
the school.
In our class, he helps those who
cannot easily understand the
lesson, he helps to implement
simple classroom
regulations and most of
all, he obeys everyone
in the school.

is already a Christmas gift for
him, another inspiration will be given to him. As I talked to him, he told
me that he is also dreaming to follow the footsteps of Pope Francis. He
looks up to the Pope as one of his teachers. He is inspired the way the
Pope leads for Christian faith. His love for the Filipinos is something that
makes Raizel feels that he has the place in the heart of the Pope.
Pope’s love to the children and his plea for peace are the aspects that
he loves about Pope Francis, that someday, he can bear the courage and
humility that are being fostered by the leader of the church.
In these days, our intelligence is choosing the popular or to be
the well-known person. These bishops, popes, and priests like Pope
Francis first rode in buses that showed their humility. In today’s world,
this is hidden and whoever hears it will just follow the popular ones.
Everyone knows this Pope but only two out of five are outstanding

I never thought that I would have gone that far off in a school competition
for writing. Oftentimes, I find myself looking back and thinking how naively
I wrote my first winning piece. It was only until recently, when I have found
myself a little better and seen the papers of my seniors, that I refer to that
first one immature. And yet I also find myself wondering how, in that flawed
piece, I found myself a champion. I have read the piece of the one who placed
second to me, and I was in awe of the perfection of her diction. I found myself
quite in doubt back then, but of course, I improved; I forgot all about it.
Almost everyone favored whatever it is I wrote. It was at those points,
that people tell me to just practice fluidity in ideas (as writers seldom
not find themselves in an enigma of thoughts) and better handwriting. Of
course, I had no qualms against that. As far as I knew back then, it was in the
mastery of form that we receive greater opportunity, a lesser risk.
And so I practiced. I have never been so intrigued with an art form. I
have never been so hung up and devoted to something, especially something
that empties the stomach faster than running around an oval eight times.
It was hard to make myself better. It was even harder to stay committed to
something that demands great sacrifices; yet strangely, I found it less of a
pain. Perhaps, when your heart finds the one thing it truly aches for, you
forget about what you forego, and instead find yourself in the gift of the
present.
People still gave me a thumbs-up, however, but it was just dull. Like those
bubbly candy you keep on pinching, it lacked substance. It took me several
nights of going to same old street food corner with my mentors, loads of
squid, and pig intestine, and a re-read of my first article that I found the
present me the one who was truly naïve. I had an atavism. I was so convinced
that all I had to do was to master my grammar more and practice adding
transitions that it had me think less about the heart.
It had come to me that I had lost myself in a victory. I must admit, I am
very proud and very happy, but I believe that I would have been happier
looking at a mirror than with looking
at edgy diamonds.
Still, I found myself quite
aptly studying hard in the school.
Perhaps, the practice of devotion and hard work never fails to apply to
anywhere. Even when you balance equations; even when you find yourself
summarizing a hundred pages of a book about rocks into a rather simple
powerpoint presentation; even when you grow tired of having to gather
primary and secondary sources from ages ago to write an entire book about
it as part of your social science requirement, as long as you have learned to
stay committed to the absolution of excellence, it is not quite that hard to
probe the will to act.
However, since I have entered the school, I have constantly tried to start
writing about what I have experienced. As I have mentioned, I hardly find
time to write. I know that there is the principle of managing time; but even
then, I find myself at a loss for what to write. And so to you dear reader, please
do understand that the greatest stories come not from the perfection of the
form but from the seemingly insignificant snippets of your life. One cannot
undermine the importance of a story by how it was written. I believe it is in
the collection of your life’s little (sometimes badly written) stories that life
becomes a little better for you. You should write not to make an impression.
You should write for yourself. After all, every person’s stories, I believe, in
one way or another, is part of this collection of memories everyone shall see.
Perhaps, the art of writing serves as a medium to getting a story up there.
It immortalizes a memory. Even a small drop of ink could cause a ripple, a
pleasing anomaly.
As for myself, I am glad to see myself writing this- the first legitimate
piece I had written after years of abstinence. I am looking forward to start
doing what I do best once again: telling stories. And so to you, I say, just
write.

students of computer are passing
their quizzes, answering on line
recitation and passing their
assignments.
Edmodo is a “social learning
platform” website for teachers,
students, and parents. It is
marketed as the Facebook for
schools.
Using Edmodo, teachers invite
students into private groups that
can be used for online classroom
discussions, but in a format
that keeps the teacher firmly in
control. Teachers give students a
class signup code, which can be
deactivated once all students have
signed up, and students in turn are
encouraged to share the code with
their parents, allowing them to
monitor their own child’s activity.
As an invitation-only social
network, Edmodo is meant to
mirror a secure offline classroom
that intruders cannot access, with
rules of decorum enforced by
software. For example, students
are not allowed to pass private
messages to other students in
class. They can post only to the
group or the teacher, and group
messages can be moderated by
the teacher.
According to Mr. Borja, it is
one way of promoting paperless
classroom, since students are not
anymore printing their outputs.
Aside from this, Mr. Borja is also
benefited since he can check the
assignment of his students on
line.

Fr. Luigi Caburlotto School is known as home of the champions.
When it comes to Campus Journalism and Mathematics, students are
putting the name of the school into the highest peak of victory, whether
in divisional, regional and even the national level.
Not all the students in the school are inclined into writing and
academics. Most of them are interested to use their skills and strategies
in the field of sports. But sad to say, our sporty students are not exposed
into outside competitions.
The Department of Education holds different annual sports
competitions, district meet, SCSU (South Cavite Sports Unit), Provincial
Meet and Palarong Pambansa are included here. But neither of these
sports gathering has been experienced by our students.
The sports writers of this publication believe that sports club
members of the school shall not be confined only in the school, they
shall be exposed into these events for the following reasons.
The skills of our athletes will be more equipped since they are to
compete with the best players. Being engaged in the different outside
competitions is one of the best ways to enhance their discipline, and
camaraderie.
It serves also as their medium to showcase their agility, endurance
and to express themselves as well.It will also be a great avenue for
them to meet new circle of friends which can also be very beneficial to
them. Aside from this, they can already asses their own skills as sports
enthusiast. Let us give them the chance to be in another ground, not
just in our school gymnasium.
We strongly believe that our FLCS players can do something better
only if they will be given a chance to compete outside. It is now the time
for them to get out of their nutshell and go beyond their horizon. They
can never capacitate their ability until they meet new opponents from
different schools. With the good facilities that the school provides and
the committed sports club moderators, no doubt that they can win
sports tournaments.
Let us remember that there will be greater learnings if students
are experiencing the real outside world of sports. Let us continue to
balance sports and academics. Let us always take a look to the capacity
of our athletes, that they can unleash everything in them in the field of
sports.
