Experiment-1

AIM
To determine the relationships between distance, time, average speed and acceleration
Hypothesis
Distance is directly proportional to the time if an acceleration is uniform and the rate of
acceleration is proportional to incline of ramp
Independent variables: Time for ball to roll and steepness
Dependent variables: Distance and height of the ramp
Apparatus: Meter scale,Table tennis balls, Stopwatch and Inclined plane
Procedure
 Set up the ramp with height ( h ) = 0.20 m above the table by using tools like stick and
protractor. Measured the height from table to the top of the ramp.
 Measure the distance from the beginning point ( P )to the end point ( E ).
 Adjusted the equipment and prepared to begin
 Starting with the ball at rest, used the stopwatch to measure the time
 Make 4 time measurements, record in data table
Height Distance Time velocity Acceleration

Relevant Equations
V= u+at
1
S = ut+ 2at2

V2 –u2=2as
Inference
The acceleration of the ball is constant in that specific height and degrees
Conclusion
The height of the ramp is increased, the table tennis ball will generate more acceleration as it
goes down the ramp. The distance is directly proportional to the time if an acceleration is
uniform and the rate of acceleration is proportional to incline of ramp
Experiment -2
Aim
To determine the relationship between mass and acceleration when force is kept constant
Hypothesis
I predict that the relationship between mass and acceleration will be inversely proportional to:
net force applied to an object and the acceleration it experiences in the following way: the
acceleration (a) of an object is directly proportional to and in the same direction as the net
force (Fnet), and inversely proportional to the mass (m) of the object
Dependant variable: Acceleration of the cart
Independent variable: Mass on the cart
Apparatus: Trolley set, String, Pulley system, Hooks and weight and Stop watch
Procedure
 Record the weight of the cart and each of the weights.
 Connect the string to the cart and place some weights on the hook hanging down, and
record the mass of the entire hook [0.050kg]. Keep this constant through the
experiment.
 Make sure that the plane is totally parallel to the table with no incline. Use the cart to
test it, do not apply any force and see if it moves by itself

Mass of trolley Force applied Acceleration (a=2S/t2)

Inference
The acceleration of an object as produced by a net force is directly proportional to the
magnitude of the net force, in the same direction as the net force, and inversely proportional
to the mass of the object
Conclusion
Force is mass times acceleration, or F= m x a. This means an object with a larger mass needs
a stronger force to be moved along at the same acceleration as an object with a small mass
