3. Preliminary questions:
a. What are your aspirations in coming to class today?
b. Why do you have to travel and spend just to come to class today?
We wanted to come to class simply because we want to learn something
from school and; by learning something we can complete the
requirements needed for this course; and by completing this course we
are completing the academic requirements to graduate and; by
graduating we can find a job; and by finding a job we can have a better
life and a happy future.

This brings us to what we call motivation.

B. Presentation

1. Definition of terms Motivation comes from the root word

Motive and motive comes from the Latin word movere which
means to take action or simply "move".
Motives are the desired goals that urges for one to behave.

Motivation defined as inner states or processes that underlie behavior.

2. Determining facts "What are the sources of Motivation?

We have two and that is INTRINSIC and EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION

Intrinsic Motivation occurs when people are internally motivated to do

something because it either brings them pleasure, they think it is
important or they feel that what they are gaining is significant.

Examples are:

Instincts- the inherited tendencies to think, feel and act in particular

ways.
Arousal- used to describe why people would seek to increase
excitement
Cognition- thoughts, expectations and mental frameworks that inhibits
us to seek self improvement

Extrinsic Motivation-when people are compelled to act in a certain way

because of factors external to him or her.

Examples are:

Incentives- also means reward; this is an environmental stimulus that

drives behavior by pulling it from without.
Drive- the force or stimulus that urges a person to be aroused or get
excited to perform a task or exemplify a behavior.

Since we have already determined what the sources of motivation are

let me ask you this, Why do we acquire something?

This is because we NEED them.

What are NEEDS by the way?

NEEDS are objects we acquire because we lack of them or we are
deprived of them.

According to humanistic theorist, Abraham Maslow, human needs are

organized in a hierarchy for which people acquire in stages. "

C. Practice:
To properly introduce to you the NEEDS according to Abraham
Maslow, let us look at this picture of man.

(Displays a picture of a man)

You see that he is basically unclothed, so what do you think he

needs?

He needs clothing (Puts on clothing)

Of course, in order to survive, he needs food, he needs water to
intake.
And also, to protect him from the environment and its phenomenon,
he needs shelter.
As well as rest after toil.
In addition, he needs to eliminate unwanted masses in the body by
urinating and defecating.

Clothing, shelter, food and water, rest and elimination are what we
call physiological needs—needs that satisfy our bodies

This man lives in a community where he wanted to be safe and

sound. Laws, protection and safety are what we call safety needs.

Going higher, this man lives in a social environment where he needs

to affiliate himself with others, to belong and to be accepted by
friends, peers and family. This is what we call belongingness and
love needs.

When he achieves it he goes higher and fulfills his needs for self
esteem. Here is where man becomes competent so that he gains
pride, approval and recognition.

So that what makes the man motivated to fulfill his needs.

Now, what is the main goal of this man?

This man teaches us that we humans are seeking gratification

because we wanted to satisfy ourselves, we need comfort and above
all, we need to be happy and contented.

According to that when we reach the this point in life, when we are
contented, happy and fully matured, we reached the point of self
actualization or the peak of the hierarchy.
