For making a sentence grammatically correct, a Verb must agree with its Subject in Number.

Exceptional Case
Rule 2: Two or more singular subjects joined by ‘or’ or ‘nor’ require singular verb.
Rule 3: Subjects joined by ‘or’ or ‘nor’ are of different persons, the verb agrees with the nearer.
Rule 5: nouns in plural form but singular in meaning takes singular verb.
Rule 6: Nouns in singular in form but plural in meaning take a plural verb.
One dozen cost one thousand rupees.
The couple are going out this week.
