June 19, 2019 Wednesday

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVE:

At the end of the period the students will be able to describe the components of a
scientific investigation.

II. LEARNING CONTENT:

TOPIC: SCIENCE INVESTIGATION
 The Research Problem
 Research Hypothesis
 Fair Testing
REFERENCE: World of Science for Critical Thinkers 7
The Library Publishing House
Pages 7 – 29
MATERIALS:
PowerPoint Presentation
Video Clips (About Garbage Problems)
III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES / EXPERIENCES

A. INTRODUCTORY PHASE (Warm Up)

 Have you ever experience a situation wherein you need to make a big decision
that will affect your life?
 Were you been able to solve a certain problem in your own way?
 How were you able to solve it? What are things that you did?
B. DEVELOPMENTAL PHASE
 Show them the short video clips about garbage and its effect, taken from the
YouTube.
 Let the students give their opinions about the movie.
 Ask them to give the causes of pollution.
 Let them enumerate and explain possible solution for the given problem.
 Basing on the given situation explain to them how their knowledge in scientific
investigation will be of help.
 Collaboratively, with basing on the video clip, let them come up with different
research problems.
o Ask them the things to consider when deriving a research problem.
 Choose the three research problems from the given, then ask them to make an
intelligent answer about the problem. (formulating Hypothesis)
 Ask them what they are going to do to prove their answers or hypothesis.
(Fair Testing). How are they going to do it?
C. EVALUATIVE PHASE
a. When undergoing scientific investigation, why do we need to have a good
research problem?
b. Why do you need to provide a hypothesis for the given problem? How do you
do it?
c. Why do you need to make a “Fair Test” to prove your hypothesis?

IV. LEARNING ASSESSMENT

Show them pictures of plants in experimental procedure, comparing the control

group and control treatment. Let them formulate a research problem and a
hypothesis about it.

V. LEARNING AGREEMENT / HOMEWORK

Make a hypothesis and experimental procedure for the given problem:

“Does urea affect the growth of plants positively?”
