The Bible mentions many times that opulence is but vain and when you set

your heart to your earthly treasures or even covet after it, your end is
destruction (Prov. 28:22). The goal of this paper with the list of scriptural
points exposing the vanity of opulence is, as aforementioned, to reinforce
the dismissed truth that the professing Christians must learn godliness with
contentment; that our best life is not now but in eternity and we should
seek the face of the LORD more rather than demanding financial prosperity
in this sojourn.

As a Christian, one should not care about his financial status but fully
surrender it to the Lord whose steadfast love endures forever, and has
multitude of mercy. In Scriptural truth, Yeshua had even warned that it’s
hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven than for a camel to go
through the eye of the eye of the needle (Matt. 19:23-24). In Psalms 62:10,
it is written not to set you heart on your treasures. And more ultimately, it is
written in verse 24 of the 6th chapter of Matthew that, {6:24} No man can
serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or
else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and
mammon. Now, if a man considers the treasures and look after it as if it’s
his life, then he is serving his idol –the money. Moreover, Christ commanded
“Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor
yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and
the body than raiment?”

In fact, we could stop with these three Scriptural points –that this is enough
to debunk those doctrines insisting that the evidence of being saved lies on
the prosperity of your life and ways. But GOD breathed out so much Word
commanding us not to set our heart to money. The LORD knows every man
and how they exalt themselves in their richness. In Psalm 62:9, it is written,
“Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to
be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.”

But GOD delights in His people who love Him and are upright in heart.
Psalms 91:14-16: Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I
deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He
shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will
deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him
my salvation.

But to the otherwise, He warns.

Revelation 3:17-19 (KJV) 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and
increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not
that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and
naked:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest
be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame
of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that
thou mayest see.19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous
therefore, and repent.

1 Timothy 6:6-10 (KJV) 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.

7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry

nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into

many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and
perdition. 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while
some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced
themselves through with many sorrows.

Psalm 39:6 (KJV) Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are
disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather
them.

Luke 12:18-21 (KJV) 16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The
ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: 17 And he thought
within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to
bestow my fruits? 18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns,
and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19 And
I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years;
take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said unto him, Thou
fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall
those things be, which thou hast provided? 21 So is he that layeth up
treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

Proverbs 11:4 (KJV) Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but
righteousness delivereth from death.
Matthew 6:33 (KJV) But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his
righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Colossians 3:2 King James Version (KJV)

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Psalms 49:6-7 (KJV) 6 They that trust in their wealth, and boast
themselves in the multitude of their riches; 7 None of them can by any
means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:

----

Proverbs 22:1 (KJV) A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches,
and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

Revelation 2:17 (KJV) He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit
saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the
hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name
written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of
my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of
my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which
cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new
name.

If you choose God this shall it be:

1 Corinthians 2:9 King James Version (KJV)

9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered

into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that
love him.
Isaiah 28:5 King James Version (KJV)
5 Inthat day shall the LORD of hosts be for a crown of glory, and for a diadem
of beauty, unto the residue of his people,

But if you choose money:

Acts 8:20 King James Version (KJV)

But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou
20

hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

CONCLUSION:

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV) 13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole

matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole
duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every
secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

1 Samuel 12:21 (KJV) And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after
vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.

Revelation 21:5 (KJV) And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I
make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words
are true and faithful.
