Understanding the Role of

Evolution in Creating
Biodiversity

Single-celled organism

According to several scientists, they believe that the first organisms on the planet
came to be thanks to the combination of heat coming from the volcanoes,
electrical energy generated by the lightning and UV rays from the sun that
triggered a reaction in the gases that enveloped the earth. What it produced
were the first building blocks of life such as amino acids, nucleic acids (the
molecules found in DNA and RNA), and simple sugars. The molecules that were
created through this chemical reaction transformed into cells after hundreds of
millions of years have passed. Later on, these cells, which were now enclosed in
membranes, became the single cell organisms that mostly lived in water and
mud until the time they were able to create their own food through
photosynthesis.
