Schuetzen-style
The Valley County Rifle and Pistol Club hosted
its major event of the season, the Summer Heat
Schuetzen and Bench Match, on August 9th and had
a great turnout including shooters from as far as Idaho,
Wyoming and Canada. Broken down, Schuetzen
just may very well be the purest form of rifle shooting
there is. It is performed with a single shot rifle and the
practitioner is striving for precise shot placement into
the bull’s-eye of a 25 ring target at 200 yards. Pictured
above is Cara Pinder, shooting a borrowed rifle from
Mike Otterberg. The Marlin-Ballard she was firing is
over 100 years old and valued at over $3,000, and
that does not include the sights which Cara’s father,
Kent Morehouse, informed us that they are rather
pricey as well. But he’s now got her fixed up with her
