Assalamualaikum Wr. Wb.

Good morning, the honorable teacher and my beloved friends. First of all, let’s
praises to Allah SWT who give blessing to us, so we can attend this English
speech without any problems.

I am very happy to stand here in front of you all to deliver a speech. My name is
Syilvia Tursina. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to say a few word at this
time. Today, my speech will talk about the important of preserving Indonesian
traditional foods.

What is Traditional food?

Traditional foods are foods and dishes that are passed through generations or
which have been consumed many generations. Traditional foods and dishes are
traditional in nature, and may have a historic precedent in a national dish, regional
cuisine or local cuisine.

Indonesian cuisine varies greatly by region and has many different

influences.Sumatran cuisine, for example, often has Middle Eastern and Indian
influences, featuring curried meat and vegetables such as gulai and curry, while
Javanese cuisine is mostly indigenous, with some hint of Chinese influence.
Elements of Chinese cuisine can be seen in Indonesian cuisine: foods such as
noodles, meat balls, and spring rolls have been completely assimilated.

One of the facts about Indonesian food, You won’t see too many Indonesian chefs
looking closely at their dishes, gently placing a garnish on the rice with a pair of
tweezers. In fact, if you see traditional Indonesian food on a plate, it sometimes
might not look all that appetizing! But Indonesians don’t rely on the prettiness of
a dish to work up an appetite. They go for smell and taste! So although it is not
usually visually attractive, you can rest assured that your food is going to be
delicious!
Many tourist like Indonesian foods such a Rendang from Padang, Bakso from
Malang, Soto from Lamongan, Satay from Madura, Gado-Gado from Jawa, etc.

Indonesian culinary culture always creates excitement with tourist. The food here
makes tourist think of the richness and diverse as the various cultures of the
country of thousands islands. That’s why we must preserving of Indonesian
traditional foods.

Along with development of time, a passion for preserving traditional food is

fading. Why? Because of the impact of globalization and lack of awarness to
preserving Indonesian traditional foods, there is no like and love Indonesian
traditional food. We as young generation, must preserve traditional Indonesian
food to stay awake. We can preserve it by learning how to cook and eat traditional
foods of Indonesian.

For young generation, we must save our culture! Okay everybody, that’s all my
speech today, I hope it is useful for us, thank you and see you.

Wassalamualaikum wr wb.
