W hen Anne Sbarounis first visited
The Glenridge on Palmer
Ranch, she knew right away: This was
the place. At the time, Anne was living
near Atlanta, Georgia, and health issues
prompted her to look for a community
that offered continuing care. But there
were stipulations. “I didn’t want to live
in the country. I wanted a vibrant social
atmosphere. I wanted to go to the
theater,” she said. “I told that to my son,
and he suggested that I take a look at

She did and moved in shortly after.

New CEO Brings Wide Experience in Senior Healthcare

Tirrell came to The Glenridge from

Memphis, TN, where he served as Chief
Operating Officer. A non-profit CCRC like
The Glenridge, Trezevant comprises 270
independent living units, a 104-bed
skilled nursing unit, and 151 assisted
living apartments with a 28-bed memory
care center.
A licensed nursing home administrator
with more than 25 years experience in the
senior care housing industry, Tirrell holds
Diplomat status in the American College
of Healthcare Executives and is a past
president of the Mid-South Healthcare
Executive Association and a surveyor for
the CCRC Accreditation Commission.
Tirrell received a Bachelor’s degree
from California State University; a Masters
in Social Work from the University of
Arkansas at Little Rock; and a Masters
Degree of Business Administration from
Barry University in Miami Shores, FL.
“My staff and I look forward to serving

Glenridge the only place to be in Florida,”

Sally Gambling has always been fascinated
by contemporary art and has been a collector
for years. “I can’t think of a better place to
house my collection than here at The Glenridge
where culture and creativity are celebrated,”
says the former New Yorker.
Sally’s impeccably decorated apartment
incorporates vibrant colors with all types of
mixed artwork, antiques and furniture.
“It doesn’t have a very Florida feel, but what
you see is me. I brought a lot of my New York
style to The Glenridge, and it certainly feels like
home,” says Sally.
Prior to moving to The Glenridge,
she and her late husband lived in
Boca Grande. When he passed
away, Sally said: “Although that
area was beautiful, Sarasota was
calling my name. I just love the
cosmopolitan feel, the opera,
ballet and theater. I needed to
open my life up after being a
widow, and I’ve done that here.”
“For me, The Glenridge has been the best
thing ever,” she adds. “I wanted to be around
interesting people, and I was impressed by all
the cultural opportunities. I’ve been here 6 years
now, and life just continues to get better.”

whimsical fabric and lots of mirrors to give
the illusion of more space.”
Jean also totally redesigned her kitchen by
enclosing it and adding a countertop stove with
drawers and an oven wall unit. “My apartment
has been great for entertaining,” she
says. “I’ve had buffet dinners here for
24 people.”

Jean has also opened her home for Glenridge
marketing events, in the hopes that visitors
will see for themselves what a wonderful place

Kappie Spencer’s Customized Glenridge Residence Is Uniquely “Her”
K appie Spencer has always been a woman
who knows exactly what she wants. A
political activist and women’s rights advocate,
she worked tirelessly for many causes including
the federal Equal Rights Amendment. She is
included in the book Feminists Who Changed
America (1965-1972). Kappie was also on the
National Board of Directors for the American
Association of University Women and National
Women’s Political Caucus. She is clearly a
“take-charge” person. So, she planned early
for her later years.
When it came to customizing her apartment,
Kappie didn’t settle for anything less than the
best. She had a vision for her new home, which
she implemented down to the smallest detail –
from ceiling lights to flooring to plumbing
fixtures. The result: an eclectic showpiece that
reflects a full and fascinating life.
To make her home bright and welcoming,
Kappie installed three skylights to bring in
natural light. “In my family room, I built a large

to general contractor, Kappie added special

over the dining room table); installed a dream
kitchen with Corian countertops and sinks;
and built a custom shower with two opposing
18-spout fixtures and an overhead gooseneck
showerhead. Her home office features a
specially designed computer desk and a built-in
Murphy bed for guests.
