The Magic Word: ATTENTION

By: Riccah Mae C. Catle

Words were bestowed upon us to be used, to be said, to be written. Our mouths are the
medium, alongside our pens and papers. Though some words don’t hold much relevance, some
harbor great power.
Merlin, the Wizard of Oz, Elphaba, even Harry Potter who only knew how to cast one
spell which was ‘Expelliarmus’ knew that words are reservoirs of magic if used properly.
Though you don’t see humans randomly flying across the sky with brooms or having a
magical duel against each other these days, magic still does exist in the form of letters, texts,
words, vocabularies, and it is pretty evident in the halls of a school which has gone a bit rowdy.
School is a place of learning, and what happens if it gets disrupted? You, of course,
simply state a spell that compels them to be silent and raise their hands to the form of a
triangle over their heads. It easily clears all the noise and the ruckus, retaining the environment
of education to its productive atmosphere. That ought to do it, right?
This word is normally used by the teacher as to snap their fingers in front of their
students to wake them up from their wandering minds and chit chat to focus on what they
were at school for. It works most times, so they gave the word a good review on the book it was
taken from which was Spellcasting for Educators.
You can actually hear this too in military barracks, to alert soldiers and stir awareness
between them. Pretty hardcore, huh?
What is this word anyway? Is it more powerful than the Imperius curse? Is it more
effective? It is, at the right people.
Attention, taken from the latin word attencio, is the lexis that the school teachers of the
National Christian Life College use to regain order amongst the mass of students they take care
and teach in every school day.
Of all the actions the students can take on, why the letter ‘A’ dance move of the Y.M.C.A
song? Well the logic is, you can’t speak easily if you have your arms in that position, and if it
lingers in that position for too long, you’ll tire and start feeling aches, so better yet be quiet and
wait for the magic words that will unbind you from the Attention spell: ‘Thank you’.
‘Thank you’ is the partner spell of ‘Attention’, one that repels the effects of the latter
word. So, after a few seconds of disciplines, the caster will thank you for your cooperation and
you’ll be free of the restraint.
So, the next time you plan on trying to hush your rambunctious Mobile Legends-playing
classmates, try this spell. Though a note: make sure you actually have the right level to do so, it
might backfire if used in lower levels and result to more riot.
