ACTIVITY 1,1
HOW TO MAKE TOOLBOX

TOOLBOX: A box or container for keeping tools in, it makes the owner’s
tool organize and easy hand carry.

OBJECTIVES:
 Enhance the ability and skills of the students
 Improve their coordination and team work
 Apply what they learn and knowledge how to use tools and
equipment properly
 Make them realize how important safety measurement in this activity

SAFETY CONSIDERATION:
 Make sure wear gloves in working plane sheet.
 Wear safety glasses in cutting plane sheet.
 Work at a relaxed pace in cutting plane sheet using metal scissors and
keep fingers away from sharp edges.
 When handing a tool to another person, give the handle first.

EQUIPMENTS:
 Metal scissors
 Plane sheet metal
 Centre puncher
 Hammer
 Drill
 File

Page 7
TOOL BOX PROCEDURE:

1. Position a full or partial sheet onto the sheer by slipping it through

the back. Off a full width sheet cut an 11 ¼ “ section off (Cut an 11
¼ x 36 piece)
2. Layout out the four piece on your piece of sheet metal oversized (5 ½
x 11 ¼) one bottom (13 ¾ x 7 ½).
3. Square the three section
a. Select the best corner on all three pieces. Square the best corner of
each piece. Then, layout the basic square (total width x total
height) from the best corner and cut the piece to size. (top= 13 ¼
x 6 15/16 , bottom = 13 ¼ x 10 7/8 x 4 –Qty2).
4. Layout bottom of box according to plan and cut out.
a. Bend single hem over and flatten
b. Bend tabs up to 90 degrees on both ends
c. Bend the front side and back side to form the box
5. Layout box ends according to plan and cut out
a. Bend single hems over and flatten
6. Layout top of box according to plan and cut out
a. Layout and drill holes for the handle hardware. This will easier to
do on a nice flat work piece.
b. Bend single hem over and flatten
c. Bend tabs up to 90 degrees on both ends
d. Bend the lines to form the top. Bend angles to fit your bottom.
Play with the angles until your top spans front to back and fits over
the top of the ends.

Page 8
7. Assemble the tool box
a. Use rivets to assemble for an A. make sure the rivets are evenly
spaced, by laying out the hole locations with a ruler. Sloppy
rivets will not be eligible to receive an A.
b. Spot weld assemble for a B.
c. Attach the piano hinge to the back- attach hinge to the two edges
without a hem
d. Attach all hardware- corner protectors, latch and handle
8. Round over all corners and edges with file.

Rate activity:

 The foundation of the tool box should be strong

 The measurement that given in the activity should accurate in
actual finish product.
 Must be all the edges is flatten and there will be no sharp sides
 Rivets must put properly
 Must be the metal sheet bend properly
