2. LAN Setting
(1) In the Network Connections window, right-click [Local Area Connection] and select
[Properties] for the desired Internet mode: LAN or High-Speed Internet or Dial-up
(2) Verify that Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is checked in the Local Area Connection Properties
window. Click [Properties].

(3) Verify that Use the following IP address is selected and input the IP address, Subnet mask, and
Default gateway assigned to the PNMS PC. Click [Advanced].
(4) Verify that the values input in (3) above are displayed on the IP Settings tab.

(5) Retaining the default setting on the Authentication tab, click the Advanced tab.
(6) Retaining the default setting on the Advanced tab, click [OK]

(1) Click on Start Æ Settings Æ Control Panel on the Windows XP™ start tab.
(2) Click on Phone and Modem Options icon to start configuring the modem.

(3) Select country and input area code on Location Information. Click on OK button to continue.

(5) Select Modem tab, click on Add button to continue adding the new modem.
(6) Check Don’t detect my modem box and click on Next button to continue.

(7) Select Standard Modem Types and Standard 19200 Modem from Manufacturer and Models list
respectively. Click on Next button to continue.
(8) Select Selected ports and COM1, then click on Next button to continue. If you are using
multi-port configuration, select All ports to install the standard 19200 bps modem driver to all
available COM ports.

(10) Verify that COM1 Standard 19200 bps Modem is displayed on the list. Click on OK button.

4. Dial-up Setting
(1) Click on Start Æ Settings Æ Control Panel Æ Network Connections icon to start configuring
the Dialup setting.
(2) Network Connections is displayed. Click the Create a new connection in Network Tasks category.
Dial-up setting is written in this Section 3. If you connect PNMS to equipment with LAN
connection, please jump to Section 4.

(4) Check on Connect to the network at my workplace and click on Next button to continue.

(6) In the Network Connection Wizard window, type in Pnms001 on the allocated box. Click on Next
button to continue.

(7) Enter any number in the Phone number box. Click on Next button to continue.
(8) Verify that the connection Pnms001 is registered. You can also create a shortcut on your desktop if
you wish. Click on Finish button.

(9) In the Connect Dial-up Connection window, click on Cancel button to continue. Click Properties
button on Connect Dial-up Connections window.
(10) In the Dial-up Connection Properties window, verify that the selected device is Modem-
Standard 19200 bps Modem [COM1] on the General tab. Click on the Configure button.

(12) On the Option tab, keep default setting and click on the Security tab.

(13) On the Security tab, keep default setting and click on the Networking tab.
(14) On the Networking tab, verify that Type of dial-up server I am calling is set to PPP and uncheck
File and Printer and Client for Microsoft options.

(15) Click on Settings button. Uncheck all the boxes in the ensuing window as shown in the figure
below. Click OK, go back and highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then click on the properties
box.
(16) Verify that both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address
automatically are selected. Click on Advanced ... button.

(17) In the Advanced TCP/IP Settings window, uncheck Use IP header compression in the PPP link.
Click OK button.
(18) On the Advanced tab, keep default setting and click OK button.

NOTE
(2) The Windows Components Wizard window appears. Remove the check from Management and
Monitoring Tools, and then click Details....

(3) The Management and Monitoring Tools window appears. Confirm that Simple Network
Management Protocol is not checked and click [OK]. Return to above window and click [Next].

(1) To stop SNMP Service without removing it, click Administrative Tools in the Control Panel
window.

(3) Confirm that SNMP Service is installed and it has started automatically. Select Action Æ
Properties on the menu bar in the Services window, or right-click SNMP Service and then click
Properties in the SNMP Service pop-up menu..
(4) Select Manual in the Startup type field and click Stop in the Service status field on the General tab.
Click [OK] or [Apply].

(5) Confirm that the Status of both SNMP Service and SNMP Trap Service is Stopped, and that the
startup condition for each one is Manual.

6. PNMS Setup
NOTE
(1) Specify the folder for the PNMS installation software. Double-click setupwin32.exe.

(4) Specify the directory where the PNMS is to be installed. Click [Next].

You may use the PNMS on a trial basis for 30 days. After that
the PNMS can ONLY be used IF the license has been imported
(activated). To obtain the license please contact NEC.

(6) Specify the directory for storing PNMS log files. Click [Next].

7. Launching PNMS
(2) If the following window appears, select [Unblock]. (When using the Windows Firewall of
Windows XP SP2.)
