SOP FOR TDBFP

PURPOSE: This procedure is used as work instruction for TDBFP Operation

SCOPE: This procedure is applicable to TDBFP located in STPP 2X600 MW.

RESPONSIBILITY: Turbine operator, Desk Engineer, UCE & Shift In charge.

PROCEDURE DETAILS:

Pre-checks before oil charging:

1) NO concern PTW is pending.


2) Lube oil tank level is adequate(<950 mm)
3) Lube oil tank drains are in closed condition.
4) Inlet & outlet MIVs for LOP-1, LOP-2, EOP and JOP should be open.
5) Ensure all PG, TG and other C&I tapping should be in service.
6) JOP line isolation MIVs should be open for both side bearing.
7) Ensure either of lube oil coolers is in service.
8) Ensure either of lube oil filters & governing filter is in service.

9) TDBFP Barring gear MOV power supply is normalized and in remote


10) Ensure all Protection and interlock has been checked, proven and taken into service for TDBFP lube oil
system.
11) Ensure all LOP, JOP, EOP and Vapour Extractor fan power supplies are normalized.
12) Ensure TDBFP lube oil supply to its Gov console oil line isolation MIV is in open condition.
13) Ensure Header PRV is in service.
Pre-checks before start-up of TDBFP (feed water side):
1) No concern PTW pending.

2) Check that all transmitter & gauges charged.


3) Check that cooling water for the Booster & Main Pump mechanical seal cooler, and bearings jacket is ok
for the steam driven BFP.
4) Check that cooling water for the main pump mechanical seal cooler, and bearings jacket is ok for the
steam driven BFP.
5) Ensure all drains are closed in feed water side and all vent are open.
6) Ensure all feeder water side MOVS power supply is normalized.
7) Ensure recirculation line control valve is open & its MIV open at 36 m floor (D/A floor).
8) Ensure Re-heater spray line MIV is in open condition.
9) Ensure Deaerator level is normal (+250mm) and its make-up system is ready.
10) Ensure Chemical dosing system is lined up for starting TDBFP.
11) Ensure exhaust hood spray MIV are open in local.

TDBFP lube oil charging Procedure:

1) Ensure start permit is available for LOPs & EOP.


2) Start TDBFP one LOP. Start EOP in case of first start to fill line slowly
3) Ensure that lube oil header pressure >2.5 kg/cm2& Discharge pressure >12.5 kg/cm2
4) Check for any oil leakage in the system. If found, immediately stop the pump and inform TMD.
5) Check any abnormality in the LOP.
6) Take trial for EOP & Remote selection.
7) Ensure stand by LOP also available & take trial. Ensure no reverse rotation of standby pump.
8) Start oil vapour extraction fan.
9) Start JOP pump and observe discharge pressure is built up to 40 to 60 kg/cm 2.
10) Check for any oil leakage in the system if found, immediately stop the pump and inform TMD.
11) Check any abnormality in the JOP.
12) Put lube oil temp control valve in auto and set point as 450C.
13) Before taking on barring gear its feed water side charging to be done.
14) Open Barring gear and ensure speed is rising slowly.
15) Check speed has reached 300 to 450 RPM.

Pre checks before start-up of TDBFP (Turbine side)

1) Ensure Lube oil pumps are ready for start.


2) Make sure that the gland steam condenser is ready for operation with any one CEP and gland steam
blower running.
3) Ensure HT PRDS is charged and its pressure/temp is maintained as 12kg/cm2/3500C.

4) Open Exhaust line bypass valve monitor condenser back pressure carefully.
5) Seal steam temperature to be increased to >200 0C before charging seal steam.
6) When vacuum come 0.4 abs, charge TDBFP gland steam and maintain is its header pressure 200 mmwc.
7) When vacuum equalised open TDBFP exhaust valve fully.
8) Ensure steam line for TDBFP turbine, drains are in open condition. Open turbine side drains and gland
steam header drain

Start Up Of TDBFP:
16) Open TDBFP suction valve up to 5 to 10% initially for line filling and gradually make it full open from
local after proper venting.
17) Ensure TDBEP pump casing vents should be closed at the end.
18) Start Emergency lube oil pump for trial.
19) If EOP is running normal then AOP can be started and EOP should be stopped.
20) Ensure JOP is running and normal pressure (>40 kg/cm2).
21) Put TDBFP is on barring.
22) RESET the First out & turbine from TDBFP PROTECTION graphics page.
23) Ensure all protections are reset (both trip solenoid reset).
24) Ensure all start permissive is satisfied for remote engage. Ensure 0 speed reference is given to speed
command
25) On remote engage, trip oil will be generated.(>4kg),oil pr above piston (>5.5kg)
26) Oil pr below piston (>4kg),sec oil pr(>1.5kg)
27) Open ESV and wait till open feedback is come in DCS(start up oil pressure becomes 0)
28) Enter speed 1000rpm as reference speed in TDBFP Control Graphics page.
29) Check that TDBFP Turbine CV starts opening (check demand & sec oil pr developing)and TDBFP has
started rolling.
30) Check all bearing vibration & other turbovisory parameters are within permissible range. If not trip the
TDBFP turbine and search the cause.
31) Before rolling make sure live steam pressure >5.5kg/cm2,temp >210deg.put aux gov valve in auto.with
set point 7kg.
32) Let the turbine roll at 1000 rpm for heat soaking till 100% casing temperature reach > 1500C.(observe
exhaust hood temperature
33) Ensure Turning Gear and JOP auto cut out
34) After that, if all parameters are within permissible range start increasing TDBFP speed as per
requirement.
35) Check again for all bearing vibration & other turbovisory parameters are within permissible range. If not
trip the TDBFP turbine and search the cause.

36) TDBFP discharge MOV opens at 3000 rpm in auto .


37) Increase the speed so that its discharge pressure should be equal to the running BFP discharge pressure.
38) Check that, at equal discharge pressure it will start contributing in feed water flow so, maintain drum
level. // Rising of TDBFP thrust bearing temperature needs special attention//
39) When pump load is equalised with running pump Put pump auto by select on remote.
40) Close its recirculation valve if feed water flow through single pump is > 500 TPH
41) //What about the Steam side normalisation i.e Extraction steam//
42) //Through out the process of rolling and Loading of TDBFP, its turbovisory parameters to be monitored
carefully. If any deviation observed it has to be unloaded/tripped and search for the cause.//

Stopping & Isolation of TDBFP:


1) Take the running pump local mode if that is running in remote.
2) Slowly reduce the speed and check other running BFP speed is rising to increase the feed water flow.
3) Check and ensure drum level is maintained.
4) Ensure BFP recirculation CV is opened. If not opened, manually open it.
5) Further reduce the speed up to 1000 rpm and trip the TDBFP from DCS.
6) Ensure Stop valve is fully closed and speed is reducing.
7) Ensure Jacking Oil Pump picked up at 510 rpm & JOP Pressure 50 kg/cm2.
8) Ensure barring gear picked up at 210 rpm.
9) Check and Ensure Pump discharge valve is also closed in auto if not, close it manually from DCS.
// Barring gear stopping criteria to be included then after feed water isolation to be carried//

10) //In isolation TDBFP feed water isolation, Steam side isolation and Oil system isolation to be
prepared separately//
