Norton provides better performance results than the market average, as it does not
slow down the system or cause interruptions or lags.
When we tested the resource usage of Norton, the antivirus demonstrated average
results the boot time was a bit slower in comparison to other products in the
competition; however, it didnt make a big impact. During the full scan, the
application slowed down the system by 17%, which is not that much considering the
program does a difficult job scanning every corner of the computer.
Norton was also tested by AV-TEST. You can see the results below:
We have also checked AV-TEST results and noted that ESET demonstrated a pretty
heavy impact on the system. Worth mentioning that ESET did not participate in the
most recent test, so the data is taken from the previous tests:
Kaspersky 6.0 out of 6.0, as it delivered better results than the industry
average.
Slowing-down when launching popular websites 17%,
slowing-down download of frequently-used applications 1%,
slowing-down launch of standard software applications 12%,
slowing-down installation of frequently-used applications 18%,
Slower copying of files 2%.
The first scan took about 30 minutes, the subsequent scans were finished in less
than ten minutes, which is pretty fast. In addition, it quick scan only took about
2 minutes to complete. During the full scan, the OpenOffice tool finished about 30%
slower than the baseline, which is in the middle.
Bitdefender has a light impact on a system and does not drown it. During scans,
there are small system slowdowns that users might not even notice. According to AV-
TEST,
Bitdefender slowed down when launching popular websites by 13%, Slowed down the
download of frequently-used applications by 1%, slowed down the launch of standard
software applications by 8%, slowed down the installation of frequently used
applications by 17%, and slowed down copying of files by 2%.
The first scan took about 50 minutes, but the subsequent scans were completed in
about 5 minutes. Quick scan, just like Kaspersky also took about a couple minutes.
We had no lags or interruptions while scanning our system using the program as it
takes up no more than 9% of RAM memory. The scans are stable and accurate. Users
can perform an initial full system scan, or choose from advanced scanning options
custom and removable media scans.
Even though an average user is not likely to experience any interruptions using
both programs, Norton wins the performance battle, as it has a lower impact on a
system, lower CPU usage, and great scanning performance.
