Call Rules and Procedures

All Students:
- You must work two 24-hour shifts of call while on your week of trauma.
- Other services you rotate on may ask you to take call; these nights do NOT count toward your two 24-hour
trauma call. You are not required to take call on other services.
- The resident or attending on trauma must sign for each night individually on your COSPRO.
- Do NOT go home. When you are on call, you are to stay at the hospital all day and all night (6am to 6 am).
- Check with your individual service to find out what is expected of you. On the day after call, they must let
you go home, post call, by noon. Do not work more than 30 consecutive hours.
- If you cannot make a call shift, you must let the office know. No shows will be documented.
- Only two students may be on call for any shift.
- On your first day of call, let the resident know and s/he will explain what is expected of you.

Gainesville:
- The trauma team rounds at 6:00am for 24-hour call shift.
M-F 12 hr call: Meet the team at Shands(S) in the second floor conference room just outside of the OR.
S-S 24 hr call: Meet the team at Shands(S) 4 West nurses station.
- Student Call Room: G-006.3 Code: 50291 (if there is absolutely NOTHING going on and you need a nap).
- Call (Sleeping) Rooms at Shands: Men: 7507 Code: 12354 ; Women: 5534 Code: 12354
- Student lounge: 4192 Code: 531
- We have 2 lockers that are available for you if you are taking trauma call at the South Campus hospital; one
locker for male students and one locker for female students. The lockers will be for whoever is taking call
that night. Please remember to remove your personal items when your call is over. All of the students will
have the combination to these 2 lockers so please do not keep any valuable personal items in them.
Male Locker #11 Combo: 15-28-09
Female Locker #12 Combo: 14-32-22

Jacksonville:
- Jacksonville students may take call at Jacksonville, but it must be on trauma.
- Check with either your chief resident or Heidi Weschler to let them know when you would like to take call.
- You may split up your call nights any way you choose.
