COLT ~ MODEL 1862 POLICE

CIVIL WAR ERA, MANUFACTURED 1864
VERY GOOD SHAPE W/ ORIGINAL FINISH!
NO RESERVE!! Here's a nice Colt Model 1862 Police percussion revolver that was manufactured in
1864 during the American Civil War. A .36 caliber black powder "cap and ball" revolver, it has a
5-shot fluted cylinder with 6-1/2" round barrel with creeping style loading lever and a brass pin front
sight. It has a brass trigger guard and back strap and is fitted with a one-piece smooth walnut grip.
The frame, lever, and hammer are case colored while the cylinder and barrel were finished bright
blue.
Overall condition is very good and this revolver retains visible case colors on the frame, lever and
hammer. The barrel and cylinder retain a fair amount of the bright blue finish as well. There is wear
from use, of course, but this gun is far above average. There are some dings around the wedge on
both sides of the barrel and some scattered patina but not much in the way of any pitting. The barrel
address is clearly marked "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U S AMERICA", the left/rear of the
trigger guard is marked "36 CAL", and the left side of the frame is marked "COLT'S PATENT". The
serial number is 28476 and is marked in full on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, and back strap. The
last four digits of the serial number "8476" are marked on the cylinder pin and are written inside the
rear frame channel of the grip. The wedge is marked "8475". It appears that this revolver was
probably numbered incorrectly at the factory and was originally stamped "28475". The error was
discovered and the last digit of the serial number was converted from a "5" to a somewhat odd
looking "6". This would explain the "almost matching" wedge. The cylinder is unmarked. The grip is in
very good condition exhibiting the usual dents and dings but is free of cracks or chips and retains
most of what appears to be the original varnish. This revolver functions well and has a very good bore
that shows strong rifling with only light pitting.

The Model 1862 Police was manufactured between 1861 and 1873 with a total of about 48,000
produced. Many of these were converted to fire metallic cartridges so those surviving examples still
in their original percussion configuration are very desirable. Overall, this is a very presentable
example of what many collectors feel is the most attractive Colt percussion revolver ever made.

Buyer pays $20.00 shipping. This is an antique black powder percussion revolver and as such no FFL
is required for transfer to most areas and it can be shipped directly to the winning bidder. There may
be exceptions (NJ, NYC, etc) where an FFL may be required so please know your local laws before
bidding. Bidder must be at least 21 years of age and willing to supply proof of age with purchase.
SORRY, BUT I CANNOT END ANY AUCTION EARLY……PLEASE DON'T ASK!
