The Journey of the Urban Missionaries Part 1: By Red Rose

I remember the first time we met. I had already heard a lot about Gabriel aka GP from my
workmate who grew up with him that I was working with at that time. The guy’s name was
Peter (not real name). I recall how Peter only said positive things about GP and 2 things that
stood out for me were the fact that GP was a Christian and had godly character. Peter was
open enough to acknowledge that he himself was a “bad guy” and because of that he was
confident to call GP a good guy. As if that was not enough he told me that a good guy like GP
deserved a good girl like me…so strange right. I didn’t bother that much because I was in a
long term relationship with my first love at that time and I was very sure that we were going to
get married because our families knew about us lol …at that time we had just clocked 4 years
together and were still counting lol and I made sure the whole world knew about my boyfriend
lol whether or not I consulted God before jumping in that relationship was not an issue as long
as I knew he was a good guy…you feel me…mayn I was in “love”
Anyhow I always asked my colleague Peter why he kept telling me about this GP when he
and the whole world knew about my boyfriend by then and he always enthusiastically said that
he knew we would make a good couple as he said I was passionate about God and have a
godly character like “his guy GP” I kept on brushing him aside but he always reminded me of
the guy and how he was looking forward for us to meet which was bizarre…I didn’t bother
because I was so sure we would never meet and I had not time and energy to entertain such
things…I believed in one guy at the time and I desired to get married to my first love lol.
Fast forward my colleague Peter got promoted and spent most of his time out of the office
doing field work and I got a breather because he would only talk about GP when he saw me
in person once in a while.
The next time Peter came to the office he grinned gave while telling me that he had
encouraged his friend GP to apply for the position within the organisation and that GP was
called for interviews which I was going to be a part of…as usual I confidently reminded him
about my first love and he told me that he just wanted us to meet and he didn’t care what
happened after that. I was just wondering what kind of a guy this guy GP was that made his
childhood friend to keep telling me about him…
Fast forward, the day of interviews came and as usual my colleague reminded me to look out
for a Gabriel Phiri who was coming for interviews. He described his looks to me but I don’t
remember anything he said, I guess I was absent minded because I was honestly not
interested in entertaining another guy. Strange enough I just realised that I was the one who
was going to assess him…like really… being so tough and analytical I updated my colleague
that Gabriel was going to be in my group and deep down I was looking forward to seeing the
Gabriel so that I could scrutinize him mercilessly and close the matter for gee and shut my
colleague up for keeps.

The day of interviews came and for some reason Gabriel came late and I could see my
colleague panicking and worried that maybe he changed his mind about coming for interview
kekekeke. Finally he came and told me that he was running very late and I told him that he
was already disqualified for interviews for being super late. I could see my colleague’s
countenance change…
“Gabriel has landed in Kabwe town and he is heading to this place…” my colleague look at
me with joyful eyes….

There he comes Peter exclaimed….…….Look out for Part 2
